Demise of a Self-Centered Playboy by Piper Rayne (Review Post)

Published November 26, 2019 by bookbesties

You might be wondering how you’ll know when your playboy ways are coming to an end. For some it might be an unexpected pregnancy (ahem… you know who), for others it might be finally landing the one woman you’ve always wanted (cough… I won’t mention any names). For me, it was the death of my mentor and the subsequent reading of their will.

The signs were there, they always are. But I didn’t notice them until it was too late, and my demise was complete.

Demise Sign #1– You find yourself thrust into the land of responsibility and you don’t immediately hightail it out of town.

Demise Sign #2– Despite being stuck with the world’s biggest Jekyll & Hyde, some sadistic part of you actually enjoys spending time with her.

Demise Sign #3– Your family suddenly stops wanting to weigh in on every decision in your life.

Demise Sign #4– Somehow you end up being the voice of reason in your tumultuous partnership.

Demise Sign #5 –You start thinking of other people before yourself.

Demise Sign #6– You agree to put yourself in the middle of an Alaskan reality TV show that has both of you sleeping in the same tent.

Demise Complete.

20 stars? All the stars???

Okay, every book I say ‘oh this is my favorite’ and then they come out with the next book and boom I have a new favorite. Denver is the twin brother to Rome from a previous book in the Bailey series and he is a known playboy with a adventure side. He is a bush pilot and has been helping his friend Chip with some of the adventures he does for his company. Now after some life changes we find Denver and Chip’s daughter Cleo to now be co owners of Lifetime Adventures. Well so many questions like can they both be serious and pull this company together? Will either one of them pay attention to what is sparking between each other? Can Cleo tame the bad boy of Lake Starlight? Well I must say the title speaks volumes. I thought I was excited for Rome but ladies Denver was unexpected and melted my heart with every chapter. I loved Cleo spunk and her dialogue with Denver. Again I can’t say it enough how these ladies write these stories and you just want to be part of this family. So many laughs and I love the dynamic. It is a sure winner every time. There are some moments that my heart breaks for Cleo. Her and Denver are much alike in ways and seeing them navigate life and trying to see if they fit was a great ride. There are not enough stars! My favorite series from this Author!

Lip Smacker By Alison Bailey(Review Post)

Published November 26, 2019 by bookbesties

Logan Heath was the sweetest and most beautiful boy I had ever seen. He was popular, smart, and the star quarterback of Fort Johnson High. Every girl in school followed him around in hopes of getting his attention. I was no different, except that I admired Logan from afar. With him being a superstar junior and me being an awkward freshman at a new school, our coupling was a mere pipe dream.
Implementing my top-notch investigating skills I learned from reading The Nancy Drew Mysteries, I followed Logan’s life from high school through his college career, and then some. Fearing that my stalker-ish tendencies were becoming more of a mental health issue, I purposely lost track of him five years ago. I admit since that time I have thought of Logan. And when I say thought I mean he has popped into one or forty R-rated dreams of mine.
The day he walked into my bakery, butterflies fluttered in my stomach, tingles tingled my skin, and a sequence of R-rated dreams flashed through my head. But I was no longer that awkward teenager, too scared to speak to him. I had grown into a confident woman. A woman who wanted to admire Logan Heath up close and personal. Unfortunately, from the very beginning, Logan wanted something from me that I was not willing to give him.

OUT NOW!!!!

Okay,  let me start by warning you that this is a new to me author. I have seen the blurb on my Instagram feed and when I saw a chance to review I said why not? The cover is cute, I love the colors, they are inviting and at first reading the title it made me think of those lip balms that kids loved and they came in different flavors, just me?   Well as you can see I did give it a good rating so I would say yes it was my jam. First paragraph had me a little iffy, there was a lot of monologue and Lip Smacker, yes that is the name because trust me it’s a lot easier than her real name “Elipheleta!” Not only does she have a unique name she is a bakery owner with a witty grandma as her sidekick. She meets “the closer” who is Logan and he works for the investor who is trying to buy everyone out! Logan also happens to be the football god from her high school who she continually spent some of her high school years drooling over. The crush is still there and as much as she wants to hate him the attraction for her is there. Well folks he is here to woo her out of her building that is if Lip doesn’t give him a run for his money! It’s cute and she is so random and funny pretty sure that is why I really enjoyed this book. It made me laugh and I was mesmerized to keep turning the pages. Baked goods, laughter, a little sadness and some sexy scenes are a great recipe for a hit!

My Fake Rake by Eva Leigh(Review Post)

Published November 26, 2019 by bookbesties

51JQAiwY94L

n the first book in Eva Leigh’s new Union of the Rakes series, a bluestocking enlists a faux suitor to help her land an ideal husband only to be blindsided by real desire…

Lady Grace Wyatt is content as a wallflower, focusing on scientific pursuits rather than the complications of society matches. But when a handsome, celebrated naturalist returns from abroad, Grace wishes, for once, to be noticed. Her solution: to “build” the perfect man, who will court her publicly and help her catch his eye. Grace’s colleague, anthropologist Sebastian Holloway, is just the blank slate she requires.

To further his own research on English society, Sebastian agrees to let Grace transform him from a bespectacled, bookish academic into a dashing—albeit fake—rake. Between secret lessons on how to be a rogue and exaggerated public flirtations, Grace’s feelings for Sebastian grow from friendship into undeniable, inconvenient, real attraction. If only she hadn’t asked him to help her marry someone else…

Sebastian is in love with brilliant, beautiful Grace, but their bargain is complete, and she desires another. Yet when he’s faced with losing her forever, Sebastian will do whatever it takes to tell her the truth, even if it means risking his own future—and his heart.

OUT NOW

This book owns my heart!!!!!

Not only does this follow a friends turned lovers trope but THIS IS A STORY WERE 2 NERDS FIND LOVE!!!! The female lead in this book is intelligent, independent, and compassionate, everything I look for in a heroine. I loved watching her nurture the leading gentleman as he grows into his full potential. The fact that the author wasn’t afraid to write a hero for this book who is not a typical Historical Romance leading man makes me eager to read more books by her. Getting a candid view of the Seb’s struggles with selective mutism and how he overcomes the obstacles it presents was very refreshing and endeared him to my heart. This is one of those books that I immediately grin when I hear the title or think of the characters. I love this book so much.

Sebastian “Seb” Holloway is the impoverish son of a miner who prefers science and observing societies over interacting with and being a part of them. So much so that unless someone is a member in his very small circle of friends they could be lead to believe him to be brainless and odd. But those closest to him know he is loyal, intelligent, and devoted to his study of anthropology, if only he could just get over his in-ability to speak to strangers. He would do anything for his friends especially, Grace, including sacrifice his heart by pretending to be a rake and court her so she can gain the notice of the man of her dreams.

Lady Grace Wyatt spends more of her time in the Benezra Library than attending society functions. If she had her way she would stop attending society functions all together and spend her time in the field studying her beloved reptiles. But being a woman born of the ton there are certain expectations she must uphold, like getting married. There is only one man she could ever see herself happily marry, Mason Fredericks. Too bad he sees her as merely a scientific colleague and not a woman. That is until she convinces her dearest friend Sebastian to transform himself into a rake and “court” her with the intent to make Mason take notice of her. Will their crazy plan succeed or will it be her eyes that are opened to another’s potential?

I truly loved this book! I hope you do too. NERD LOVE WINS!!!!

At the knock, I grab the cash and open the door.

“Hi.”

My mouth drops open and my eyes grow wide. “Julian?” I stammer. “What are you doing here?”

“I wanted to see my girl.” He holds up the takeout bag. “I have food.”

I snatch the bag, then step into the hall, looking around. “Nope. Don’t see your girl anywhere.”

“Funny.” Julian places his hand on my abdomen and guides me back into the apartment, an amused look on his face.

Walking backward, I stop and turn from him when my feet feel the transition between hardwood and tile. I distance myself from him and hurry into the kitchen to gather dinnerware.

“Have you eaten?”

I get no response.

“Hello?!” I ask, glancing over my shoulder, catching him staring at my ass. “Take a picture. It’ll last longer.”

My comment jars him and he looks up at me, a smirk on his face. “I don’t need to take a picture.” He taps his temple. “I’ve got an image of that perfect ass right here.”

I snort. “Are you hungry? There’s more than enough for two.”

He nods, striding over to where I stand with two dishes in my hands.

“I am hungry, but not for food.”

Julian extends his arms and places them onto the countertop, caging me in. He leans toward my neck and inhales, making my eyes close. “You smell good.”

“I just showered,” I reply breathlessly, desperate to maintain my composure, quickly losing the battle.

His body flush against mine, his erection presses into my stomach as he dots the skin of my neck with soft kisses until he reaches the corner of my mouth.

“I love you,” he murmurs.

My body stiffens and eyes shoot open. I shake my head as I try to refute his words, but he covers my lips with his, staking his claim. I feel the flames ignite in the pit of my belly as he clutches my face, deepening the kiss. My lips part, welcoming his tongue into my mouth.

Kissing Julian is unlike anything else I’ve ever felt. I lose all sense of awareness as he continues his relentless, yet gentle pursuit to drown me in his affection. The feeling of his tongue tangling with mine adds fuel to the fire simmering in my core.

He lowers one hand to my waist, gripping it firmly to pull me even closer, causing my back to arch. Unable to stand on my weakened legs, I raise my arms and rest them on his shoulders. A loud crash suddenly stills our kiss.

“What was that?” I mumble against his mouth.

Pulling back, a grin appears. “The dishes…”

I raise my gaze from his eyes and notice my hands empty, the plates shattered on the floor. I smile. “It’s your fault. You can’t kiss me like that when I’m in the middle of something.” I lower my arms and walk to the closet, grabbing the broom. “You turn my brain to mush.”

“And what about your body?” he asks with raised eyebrows.

I quickly sweep up the pieces and place them into the trash, then put away the broom. “I think you already know the answer to that.”

Julian MacIntyre, known as the play maker was a star in the NFL and had success, but at the expense of walking away from his high school sweetheart Addison. Addison has a lock on her heart and plays it safe when it comes to relationships. Her heart has never healed from that one true love, Julian. Fast forward to the present and after a injury, next best thing “J Mack” is back in the NFL and Addison is the hot journalist who is picked to do a interview. Now she must face Julian and things are about to get live! The chemistry was sweet between these two even though at times, Addison was frustrating. The navigating of old feelings with the new wrapped in a football theme was great. This was a great second chance romance. Must read.

Someone to Remember (The Westcott Series Book 7) by Mary Balogh

Published November 5, 2019 by bookbesties

51rbxkfylXLt’s never too late to fall in love in this enchanting new story, a novella in the Westcott series from New York Times bestselling author Mary Balogh.

Matilda Westcott has spent her life tending to the needs of her mother, the Dowager Countess of Riverdale, never questioning the web of solitude she has spun herself. To Matilda, who considers herself an aging spinster daughter, marriage is laughable—love is a game for the young, after all. But her quiet, ordered life unravels when a dashing gentleman from her past reappears, threatening to charm his way into her heart yet again.

Charles Sawyer, Viscount Dirkson, does not expect to face Matilda Westcott thirty-six years after their failed romance. Moreover, he does not expect decades-old feelings to emerge at the very sight of her. When encountering Matilda at a dinner hosted by the Earl of Riverdale, he finds himself as fascinated by her as he was the first day they met, and wonders whether, after all these years, they have a chance at happiness together. Charles is determined to crack the hard exterior Matilda has built up for more than three decades, or he will risk losing her once again….

As you all know I love this series and this family so I was very excited to get my hands on this next book. This short and sweet, Westcott Series novella is our chance to get to know Matilda’s story. While I love that we get to know Matilda and Charles better I feel like this story should have been a full length novel of its own. I feel like by making this a novella the story was rushed and when it ended I was left wanting more. Don’t get me wrong just like the rest of the Westcott Series this book was well written and the characters have the depth I have come to expect from this author. It’s the story that I didn’t get enough of. I would have loved to have learned more about Matilda and Charles’ early romance considering the amount of devastation experienced by them both in its ending. This was a love that caused Matilda to never marry and devote her life to overprotecting her mother while leading Charles’ into living the life of a rogue, and siring a bastard before eventually marrying another. The few references to that time in their story suggest the kind of love that make me love reading romance. I think giving us that story as well as how their story ends would have given this book a true value as part of the series.

I did enjoy this book, I just wish there would have been more.

Falling For My Brother’s Best Friend by Piper Rayne(Review Post)

Published October 22, 2019 by bookbesties

41Uj0gepR2L._SY346_

Let’s say you’re an independent, self-sufficient woman who runs the family company and you find yourself falling for your little brother’s best friend. Now, more than ever, you need to count all the reasons why you need to abandon falling.

Abandon Falling #1 – He’s a womanizer. Hasn’t had a serious relationship a day in his life and changes women more often than he changes his sheets.

Abandon Falling #2 – He’s never serious. He cracks one-liners, mostly at your expense.

Abandon Falling #3 – When things go wrong, he seems unfazed and always remains in control. It’s so annoying.

Abandon Falling #4 – He has tattoos. Lots of them. Everywhere. Not to mention, he owns a tattoo parlor. (Damn it! Why doesn’t that sound like a bad thing anymore?)

Abandon Falling #5 – There’s a growing list of how different you two are. You can’t get along for fifteen minutes—a lifetime together would land one of you in prison.

Keep repeating those reasons and drown yourself in work. Pretend you don’t notice his good qualities or how enticing he looks without a shirt, and do not, I repeat, do not agree to live with the man while your place is being repaired from flood damage.

Trust me, even the strongest of us can only forego temptation for so long

OUT NOW!!!

First I would like to say ummmmm why not fall when your brothers best friend looks like Liam! If you have been reading the series you will know that there has been this storm simmering between Savannah and Liam for awhile. Savannah is head of the family business and she is the tough cookie. She has no time to play and always feels like the weight of carrying the family is on her shoulders. Liam is the sexy brothers best friend and is well loved in the community. He is a business owner but has had a thing for Savannah for the longest. Now they both find themselves under the same roof and now they will have to deny how they feel or confront what’s between these two. It is a bit of a angst with these two but it’s worth it. Savannah sometimes will make you want to shout at her but understandable she is under a lot of pressure and wants to please the business but doesn’t know how to find the balance to allowing herself to be happy. The banter between these two light up the pages from the beginning. You are turning each page panting and drooling. Liam is everything you could expect and I think dealing with Savannah he deserves a medal lol. Anything from Piper Rayne is always a win so it was not a surprise that this was a winner. I am just so glad The Bailey’s are such a big family because there are still more stories.

Tempt Series, Book 3

Release Day:

October 22

Eliahn

Getting pregnant after a booze cruise hookup was not what any parent wanted to hear, so I picked up my entire life and moved to Paris to start over. Six years later, I was ready to go home.

I was a single mom and the only thing I knew about my son’s dad was his name—Luca. I didn’t need to know anything else.
The universe had other ideas because on our second day back home, the man came crashing back into my life.

Luca

Attending a welcome back party for my boss’s daughter wasn’t how I wanted to spend my Sunday. But walking in and seeing my hookup from a cruise six years ago knocks me on my ass.
It was a weekend of fun and now I’m seeing a pair of eyes, identical to mine, staring right at me. The boy standing next to her is my son.
Now we’re living next door to each other and attempting to co-parent something that would be easy to do if the pull that brought us together wasn’t still there making things more complicated.
For six years she haunted my dreams, now she’s haunting my every waking moment.
I let her get away once, now I want to make her mine.
This time, permanently.
Only one thing left to do. I have to tempt the hookup.

Who knew that attending a party for your boss daughter would change your life?

For Luca life changed when he saw the woman that he hooked up with six years ago and now she was front and center. To complicate things even more was that she has a kid who eyes are the same as his. Luca is the responsible friend with a high focus on his law career. He has always remembered Eliahn but they never gave any info to each other. Now they must try to co-parent. If it were only that simple. Eli never forgot about Luca and was glad he now knew that he had a son. Only thing is that if she thought the chemistry they had was left on that booze cruise then she was wrong. Her attraction has come full force but she is trying to be careful now that they have to think about their son. Luca is on a mission to make his baby momma his. Their son Aiden is cute and some of the things he says is hilarious. Well developed stories and Luca has a tight knit friend group especially his bestie Nick who is hilarious. Great read and a must one click.
