OUT 11/28!!

Alisha Rai returns with the second novel in her sizzling Forbidden Hearts series!

He wasn’t supposed to fall in love with his brother’s widow…

Accused of a crime he didn’t commit, Jackson Kane fled his home, his name, and his family. Ten years later, he’s come back to town: older, wiser, richer, tougher—and still helpless to turn away the one woman he could never stop loving, even after she married his brother.

Sadia Ahmed can’t deal with the feelings her mysterious former brother-in-law stirs, but she also can’t turn down his offer of help with the cafe she’s inherited. While he heats up her kitchen, she slowly discovers that the boy she adored has grown into a man she’s simply unable to resist.

An affair is unthinkable, but their desire is undeniable. As secrets and lies are stripped away, Sadia and Jackson must decide if they’re strong enough to face the past…and step into a future together.

In this book you have Sadia who a year ago lost her husband and is now trying to keep her business going and trying to take care of her kid. Jackson is back in town just long enough to check up on his sister, except he sees Sadia and he tries to stay a bit longer to help her till she finds a new chef. At least that is what he tells himself. He has always loved Sadia and would do anything for her. Did I mention that Sadia is his brothers widow? As lust comes to light along with secrets from the past come to light. I felt that the relationship was a bit messy and unnecessary drama between the two. It was nice to see her best friend Livvy(from the previous book in this series) make an appearance. All in all it was an okay read, but not for me.

“Don’t let the bastards get you down.”

And I meet the biggest bastard of them all.

Dexter Ryne. Hotter than Hell in July and a firm believer that my place is on reception, taking phone calls and looking pretty. Not getting dirty under the hood of a car.

Determined to prove each other wrong, we make a deal.

I have three weeks to prove my worth as a mechanic. If I don’t, I’m on telephone duty.

If I do, he’ll accept defeat and make my job permanent.

But the getaway turns into something more lasting when Margaret Hurley, the cantankerous, sweater-set-wearing owner of the Sugar Maple Inn, offers Livvy a job. Broke and knowing that her days at the club are numbered, Livvy accepts.

Livvy moves with her larger-than-life, uberenthusiastic dog, Salty, into a sugarhouse on the inn’s property and begins creating her mouthwatering desserts for the residents of Guthrie. She soon uncovers the real reason she has been hired—to help Margaret reclaim the inn’s blue ribbon status at the annual county fair apple pie contest.

With the joys of a fragrant kitchen, the sound of banjos and fiddles being tuned in a barn, and the crisp scent of the orchard just outside the front door, Livvy soon finds herself immersed in small town life. And when she meets Martin McCracken, the Guthrie native who has returned from Seattle to tend his ailing father, Livvy  comes to understand that she may not be as alone in this world as she once thought.

But then another new arrival takes the community by surprise, and Livvy must decide whether to do what she does best and flee—or stay and finally discover what it means to belong. Olivia Rawlings may finally find out that the life you want may not be the one you expected—it could be even better.

Some One to Wed by Mary Balogh(Historical Rom Review)

A very practical marriage makes Alexander Westcott question his heart in the latest Regency romance from the New York Times bestselling author of Someone to Hold.

When Alexander Westcott becomes the new Earl of Riverdale, he inherits a title he never wanted and a failing country estate he can’t afford. But he fully intends to do everything in his power to undo years of neglect and give the people who depend on him a better life. . . .

A recluse for more than twenty years, Wren Heyden wants one thing out of life: marriage. With her vast fortune, she sets her sights on buying a husband. But when she makes the desperate—and oh-so-dashing—earl a startlingly unexpected proposal, Alex will only agree to a proper courtship, hoping for at least friendship and respect to develop between them. He is totally unprepared for the desire that overwhelms him when Wren finally lifts the veils that hide the secrets of her past. . . .

This is the second book by this author that I have read and as luck would have it the second book in the series.  While I found the first book somewhat tedious to read due to what I felt like was a lot of filler and “fluff” this book had no such issue.  This book was a smooth read and every time I put it down I found myself eager to pick it right back up again.  The leading lady in this book is by far one of my favorite literary leading characters to date.  The depth of her personality artfully written by the author had me genuinely cheering for her from start to finish.  I truly enjoyed this book and am so glad that I have been able to form a new, better opinion of this Author and an now looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Wilde in Love: The Wildes of Lindow Castle(REVIEW POST)

Published October 31, 2017 by bookbesties

One of Cosmopolitan’s Best Books of 2017!

Lord Alaric Wilde, son of the Duke of Lindow, is the most celebrated man in England, revered for his dangerous adventures and rakish good looks. Arriving home from years abroad, he has no idea of his own celebrity until his boat is met by mobs of screaming ladies. Alaric escapes to his father’s castle, but just as he grasps that he’s not only famous but notorious, he encounters the very private, very witty, Miss Willa Ffynche.

Willa presents the façade of a serene young lady to the world. Her love of books and bawdy jokes is purely for the delight of her intimate friends. She wants nothing to do with a man whose private life is splashed over every newspaper.

Alaric has never met a woman he wanted for his own . . . until he meets Willa. He’s never lost a battle.

But a spirited woman like Willa isn’t going to make it easy. . . .

The first book in Eloisa James’s dazzling new series set in the Georgian period glows with her trademark wit and sexy charm—and introduces a large, eccentric family. Readers will love the Wildes of Lindow Castle!

Run Read Alert!!!!  I couldn’t put this book down.  I love how this book flips the script and makes it so that drama and the potential for scandal follows the hero rather than like most H.R. books where it tends to find the heroine.  I love watching the hero convince the heroine that even though due to his fame he is not the husband she would choose for herself that he is in fact the husband she can not live with out.  I love how this couple is faced with and overcomes life and death situations rather than the trivial scandals that we find in many H.R. stories.  This book was such a fun read and I can’t wait to read more from this author.

The Trouble with Twelfth Grave(ARC Review)

Published October 30, 2017 by bookbesties

514SJQW-lIL

Grim Reaper Charley Davidson is back in the twelfth installment of Darynda Jones’ New York Times bestselling paranormal series, The Trouble with Twelfth Grave.

Ever since Reyes Farrow escaped from a hell dimension in which Charley Davidson accidentally trapped him, the son of Satan has been brimstone-bent on destroying the world his heavenly Brother created. His volatile tendencies have put Charley in a bit of a pickle. But that’s not the only briny vegetable on her plate. While trying to domesticate the feral being that used to be her husband, she also has to deal with her everyday life of annoying all manner of beings—some corporeal, some not so much—as she struggles to right the wrongs of society. Only this time she’s not uncovering a murder. This time she’s covering one up.

Add to that her new occupation of keeping a startup PI venture—the indomitable mystery-solving team of Amber Kowalski and Quentin Rutherford—out of trouble and dealing with the Vatican’s inquiries into her beloved daughter, and Charley is on the brink of throwing in the towel and becoming a professional shopper. Or possibly a live mannequin. But when someone starts attacking humans who are sensitive to the supernatural world, Charley knows it’s time to let loose her razor sharp claws. Then again, her number one suspect is the dark entity she’s loved for centuries. So the question becomes: Can she tame the unruly beast before it destroys everything she’s worked so hard to protect?

I have been a fan of Darynda and the Charley Davidson series since the very first one and i’m happy to say that while there have been a few misses in the series, this one was a HIT!
We have Charley who sent her beloved to a hell dimension, at his request and couldn’t get him back. When he finally did emerge he had changed.
Murders started happening
Everyone was convinced her once rammed husband had turned back into the evil and manevlent God from whence he came
Everyone except Charley.
She refuses to believe that her husband, the father of her child is gone, lost to the evil God Rayzekeem.
Even though he’s acting as if he hates her, as well as he is tormenting others to find something, something he needs.
Mixed into this main story line is, as always, about three more things for Charley to solve. Murder, missing school supplies and a few conversations with THE MAN himself.
But what really sold me, as if i wasn’t before, was the ending! Man, Dayrnda knows how to pack a punch!
Charley’s story is far from over and I am loving it!
