They say it takes a thief to catch a thief, and Harrison Tate is proof. Once a professional burglar, he now makes a lawful living tracking down stolen art. No one needs to know about his secret sideline, “liberating” artifacts acquired through underhanded methods. At least until one of those jobs sees him walking in on a murder.

Gabrielle Wright has long been estranged from her wealthy family, but she didn’t kill her sister. Trouble is, the only person who can prove it is the sexy, elusive criminal who shouldn’t have been at the island estate on that terrible night. She’s not expecting honor among thieves—or for their mutual attraction to spark into an intense inferno of desire.

Under the guise of evaluating her family’s art, Harris comes back to the estate hoping to clear Gabby’s name. But returning to the scene of the crime has never been riskier, with their hearts and lives on the line.

This was a well written book with a well thought out plot!  Something, that I find not many books have both of these days.  This was the third book in a series but it is a standalone and would never know that it was part of a series.  I hadn’t read a murder mystery yet and this was a great way to dive into this genre.  I really enjoyed this book.Immediately this book grabbed my attention and kept it through the entire book

This story is about Harrison, a thief who “liberates stolen art and returns it to its rightful owner” and Gaby, the black sheep of the family who is believed to murdered her sister.  Harrison was on a job to get back a piece of art and walked in on a murder scene.  His actions screwed up the crime scene enough that the killer was never caught.  Gabby was the one that found her sisters dead body.  Her uncle and the rest of the world believe that she is the one that killed her.  Her uncle will stop at nothing to prove that she is the one who murdered her sister in cold blood and disinherit her.  Harrison knows that she is innocent and has been keeping tabs on Gabby since the murder.  When her uncle hires a personal investigator, Harrison shows up to help prove her innocence.  While investigating a murder on a private island with very few people, someone is attacking them and trying to silence them.  Gabby doesn’t want to believe that the other two people on the island would have anything to do with because they are like family to her.

My only complaint with this book was the insta-love.  Gaby knows that Harrison isn’t telling her the complete truth, her gut tells her that he is probably working for her uncle to frame her for her sister’s murder, and yet she still falls into bed with him almost immediately.  She admits on several occasions that she probably can’t trust him but has no problems giving this stranger her bed and heart.  All in all this was a good, quick read.  I would read the rest of the series and more books by this author in the future.

After wining and dining his dates and giving them the best night of their lives, he always sends flowers and calls the next day—even if it’s to say, let’s just be friends. His mama taught him manners after all and his southern blood knows how to be a gentleman. Still, that isn’t enough to tame the wildest of the Bishop brothers.

River Lancaster has finally met the man of her dreams. Too bad after six months of romantic bliss, she finds out he’s married. With a broken heart and blind rage, she books herself a ticket to Key West, Florida. Tired of cheaters and liars, she’s set on escaping to forget he ever existed. Even if it’s only temporarily.

Two weeks on the beach is what they both need. No strings attached, no expectations, no broken hearts. Too bad the universe has other plans—one that’ll change the entire course of their lives in just nine short months.

Beyond Scandal and Desire: A Sins for All Seasons Novel(ARC Review)

At birth, Mick Trewlove, the illegitimate son of a duke, was handed over to a commoner. Despite his lowly upbringing, Mick has become a successful businessman, but all his wealth hasn’t satisfied his need for revenge against the man who still won’t acknowledge him. What else can Mick do but destroy the duke’s legitimate son—and woo the heir’s betrothed into his own unloving arms . . .

Orphaned and sheltered, Lady Aslyn Hastings longs for a bit of adventure. With her intended often preoccupied, Aslyn finds herself drawn to a darkly handsome entrepreneur who seems to understand her so well. Surely a lady of her station should avoid Mick Trewlove. If only he weren’t so irresistible . . .

As secrets are about to be exposed, Mick must decide if his plan for vengeance is worth risking what his heart truly desires.

I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN!!! I was drawn in to the story from the first page. This was not your typical historical romance in any way. In this book, the scandal that brings the couple together falls on the male lead rather than the female and I love it. I love seeing how the hero overcame his rough start in life to make a name for himself. But my favorite part of this book is the plot twist towards the end, HOLY COW!! I was completely blindsided in an awesome way. This is an outstanding book that I will read many more times.

Indecent Exposure: The Academy (ARC Review)

Is there a problem, Officer?

Jack Garrett isn’t a police officer yet, but there’s already an emergency. His new firearms instructor—the one who just dropped every jaw in the academy gym—is the same sexy Irish stranger Jack locked lips with last night. The Olympic gold medalist and expert markswoman is now officially off-limits, but Jack’s never cared much for rules . . .

Katie McCoy’s been cooped up in a shooting range for too long. A wild love affair is just what she needs to let loose, though she never imagined it would be with her smokin’ hot trainee. She cannot get involved with Jack—but a quick fling? Perfect. Falling hard for a charismatic recruit with an equal amount of sex appeal and secrets? Bloody stupid.

Jack’s charmed the pants off plenty of women (literally), yet few have ever looked beyond his perfect surface. Until Katie. He’ll do anything to keep her in his life . . . except tell her about his past. But a tiny lie of omission never hurt anyone, right?

If you read the previous book in this new series about Charlie you got a glimpse of the hot mess that is Jack Garret and I must admit, I was wondering how his story was going to go. Jack has his issues and daily he solves it by drinking. One day at the police academy he is introduced to a new firearms instructor who happens to be the same woman he was lip locked with on a night out for fun! Katie is shocked to see that Jack is one of the cadets and is now off limits. Jack is hell bent on being with Katie while she is here from Ireland. Katie is trying to fight the connection but Jack has the confidence that is bringing down her walls! What happens when she finds out about his drinking….oh let’s mention that Katie has an issue with drinking because of her brother who was killed by a drunk driver! I couldn’t wait to see if Jack could woo Katie and if he would get her to make her vacation permanent?! Another great read by Tessa Bailey! #patientlybutnotpatientlywaitingfordannikabook#

If Ever I Should Love You: A Spinster Heiresses Novel (ARC Review)

Published December 15, 2017 by bookbesties

51ma6A99NBL

Once upon a time there were three young ladies who, despite their fortunes, had been on the Marriage Mart a bit too long. They were known as the “Spinster Heiresses” . . .

He’s inherited a title, but not a penny to speak of, so the Earl of Rochdale knows he must find a wife—preferably one tolerably pretty and good-tempered, but definitely wealthy, and willing to exchange her fortune for his family name.

His choice: Leonie Charnock, one of the season’s “Spinster Heiresses.” Years before, the earl had saved the dark-eyed beauty’s reputation, and she is still breathtakingly lovely, leading Rochdale to hope that their marriage will be more than in name only.

However, Leonie doesn’t want to be anyone’s wife. Nearly destroyed by the secrets in her past, Leonie agrees to their union with one condition: there will be a wedding but no bedding. But it’s a condition the new Countess Rochdale isn’t sure even she can keep . . .

This is such a good book!!!  I found myself humbled by the depth of our hero’s love for the leading lady in this book.  After everything he went through on her behalf it would have been far easier for him to be cruel and hold a grudge and see out vengeance but no he showed compassion and genuine love for her.  Because of this I can say he is one of my favorite male characters to date!  This was a couple who I found myself wanting to champion from the minute I knew their history.  This was a very good book with well written characters who had an incredible back story to overcome, that I really loved.

Down By Contact By Santino Hassell(Arc Review)

Published December 15, 2017 by bookbesties

Two rival football players begin a game with higher stakes than the Super Bowl in this steamy romance from the author of Illegal Contact.

Simeon Boudreaux, the New York Barons’ golden-armed quarterback, is blessed with irresistible New Orleans charm and a face to melt your mama’s heart. He’s universally adored by fans and the media. Coming out as gay in solidarity with his teammate hasn’t harmed his reputation in the least—except for some social media taunting from rival linebacker Adrián Bravo.

Though they were once teammates, Adrián views Simeon as a traitor and the number-one name on the New Jersey Predators’ shit list. When animosity between the two NFL players reaches a boiling point on the field, culminating in a dirty fist fight, they’re both benched for six games and sentenced to joint community service teaching sullen, Brooklyn teens how to play ball.

At first, they can barely stand to be in the same room, but running the camp forces them to shape up. With no choice but to work together, Simeon realizes Adrián is more than his alpha-jerk persona, and Adrián begins to question why he’s always had such strong feelings for the gorgeous QB…

This is the second book by this Author and in this series that I have read and it is safe to say I am a big fan.  This is another football book where not knowing much about the sport doesn’t hurt how the reader relates to the story or the characters.  I am in GREAT appreciation of the way the author shows the daily struggles of LGBT+ and the emotional struggles that someone faces as they go through the stages of realizing who they are and coming-out.  Of the two books in this series that I have read this one is my favorite.
