The Crown Of Gilded Bones by Jennifer L. Armentrout(Review Post)

Published April 21, 2021 by bookbesties

Bow Before Your Queen Or Bleed Before Her…

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes book three in her Blood and Ash series.

She’s been the victim and the survivor…

Poppy never dreamed she would find the love she’s found with Prince Casteel. She wants to revel in her happiness but first they must free his brother and find hers. It’s a dangerous mission and one with far-reaching consequences neither dreamed of. Because Poppy is the Chosen, the Blessed. The true ruler of Atlantia. She carries the blood of the King of Gods within her. By right the crown and the kingdom are hers.

The enemy and the warrior…

Poppy has only ever wanted to control her own life, not the lives of others, but now she must choose to either forsake her birthright or seize the gilded crown and become the Queen of Flesh and Fire. But as the kingdoms’ dark sins and blood-drenched secrets finally unravel, a long-forgotten power rises to pose a genuine threat. And they will stop at nothing to ensure that the crown never sits upon Poppy’s head.

A lover and heartmate…

But the greatest threat to them and to Atlantia is what awaits in the far west, where the Queen of Blood and Ash has her own plans, ones she has waited hundreds of years to carry out. Poppy and Casteel must consider the impossible—travel to the Lands of the Gods and wake the King himself. And as shocking secrets and the harshest betrayals come to light, and enemies emerge to threaten everything Poppy and Casteel have fought for, they will discover just how far they are willing to go for their people—and each other.

And now she will become Queen…

OH MY GOD

Where do I really even start? This book blew me away!

I am going to try and do this without soiling anything, which is so hard because it all was amazing. I sat on this review because I had to process everything and I still don’t know if this review will adequately relay all of my feelings.

After all the ups and downs from A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire I thought Jennifer couldn’t top it, it was seriously my fav book this far. how could she make me love Poppy, Cas and the gang more? Oh, but I was wrong, so, so wrong. This book starts with so much happening it left me screaming,

That’s how you start a book!”

This book started on 100 and ended on 100000! The excitement doesn’t end there. This book picks up exactly where the last book left off with Poppy, Cas and crew thrown into a new deadly situation. I was on the edge of my seat for the first 100 pages and couldn’t put the book down enough to even sleep.

New revelations leave Poppy to question who she is and what really happened the night of her attack and her and Cas have to navigate a new life, new rolls and new feelings. So many feelings.

The twist and turns this book took me on were heartbreaking, emotional and phenomenal! I laughed, I felt things, and I cried, man did I cry! New characters were introduced and old side characters were showcased( Shoutout to Delano and Vonetta, my personal fav ;-)) more and I loved it! I was happy that a few of the theories that I guessed were correct and others were not. And the steam?

The steam was steamier, the swoon was swoon-er and everything was just so much more. I have been a JLA fan for a long time, since her first book back in 2011 and this was by far the best book Jen has ever written(so far) and defiantly my 2021 top read(so far).

Bravo Jen, BRAVO!

The Brightest Night (Origin Series Book 3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Published October 20, 2020 by bookbesties

#1 New York TimesUSA Today, and internationally bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout returns to the world of the Lux with this steamy, shocking third installment of the Origin series that will leave readers reeling.

The hardcover edition of The Brightest Night includes a bonus short story, and the first printing will be signed by the author.

He is the darkest star.
She is the burning shadow.
And together, they will bring about the brightest night.

Less than a year ago, Evelyn Dasher was a normal girl, living a safe, rather unremarkable life—a life that was a total lie. Now she’s learned the truth about who she was and what she is.

Hidden within Zone 3, she knows that if she loses control of her dangerous abilities again, she not only puts everyone in the secret community at risk, but also the beautiful, deadly inhuman Luc. He will do anything to keep her safe. Lie. Barter. Beg. Kill.

But there are truths that not even Luc can prepare for, and as Evie’s abilities evolve, the consequences of everything he’s done turn devastating.

Luc is stepping into the darkness. But Evie might already be lost to the shadows.

Get the rest in the Series Here

LUC!!!!

I feel like I’m Luc’s biggest fan, I have re-read the last book in this series(The Burning Shadow) a million times because I love him so much. The Brightest Night picks up exactly where TBS left off, with Luc and Evie and their bunch finally at a safe location after running from the big bad. People, Luxen, Hybris and human alike are kinda weary of Evie and are keeping her at an arm’s distance. All expect Luc, never Luc. This book, to my delight, it JAM-PACKED with a lot of Luc and Evie goodness!! There were so many good moments between them, sweet and funny and also a little steamy. Evie has to basically control what’s controlling her all the while exploring her budding romance with Luc as well as uncovering her memories. With all our favorites from the Lux world sprinkled in, this book will answer a lot of Evie’s questions as well as the readers. Like how much her life intertwined with Luc’s even before she meet him (for the second time) and how far Luc is willing to go to protect her, even from herself. But, in true JLA fashion, it will also leave you with a lot of questions, like what happed to the(Spoiler) and a jaw dropping ending that no one saw coming.

I laughed and blushed and laughed so more, then I cried..so hard. With a year until the last one come out, I will defiantly be re-reading this one as much as the last!

#1 New York Times, USA Today, and internationally bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout returns to the world of the Lux with The Burning Shadow, the steamy, shocking second installment of the Origin series that will leave readers reeling.

When Evelyn Dasher crossed paths with Luc, she was thrown headfirst into the world of the Lux—only to discover that she was already far more involved in their world than she ever suspected.

Because the Luxen aren’t the only ones with a hidden past. There’s a gap in Evie’s memory, lost months of her life and a lingering sense that something happened, something she can’t remember and nobody is willing to tell her. She needs to find out the truth about who she is—and who she was. But every answer she finds only brings up more questions.

Her search for the truth brings her ever closer to Luc, the Origin at the center of it all. He’s powerful, arrogant, inhumanly beautiful, extremely dangerous…and possibly in love with her. But even as Evie falls for him, she can’t help but wonder if his attraction is to her, or to the memory of a girl who no longer exists.

And all the while, a new threat looms: reports of a flu-like, fatal virus that the government insists is being spread by Luxen. A horrifying illness that changes whoever it touches, spreading panic across a country already at its breaking point.

The Burning Shadow (Origin, #2)The Burning Shadow by Jennifer L. Armentrout

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Holy CRAP this book was good! So many turns and WTF moments and the surprise ending that I DID NOT see coming..just wow! Jennifer has hit this one out of the park!

I have been a long time fan of this author and this world and diving back in gave me all the feels. This book pics up right were the last book(The Darkest Star) left off. After having discovered the truth about herself Evie is thrust into living a life she has no idea how to live and feelings she has no idea how to navigate. Luc is still by Evie’s side and as the feelings she has for him grows, so does her confusion on who and what she is…to him, to herself, to everyone.
Evie thought things would die down after the showdown from the last book, but when people start mysteriously getting sick she learns that it was only just the beginning.
Armentrout has outdone herself in this fast paced, can’t put down goodness! I found myself Laughing, crying and thoroughly SHOOK, with twist and turns I didn’t see coming. Armentrout has woven suspense, action and FEELING into a great sequel with a promise of more and exciting things to come.
This is how you write a freaking sequel!!

1001 Dark Nights: The King by Jennifer L. Armentrout(Review Post)

Published July 28, 2019 by bookbesties

51ClYL3rWxL

From #1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes the next installment in her Wicked series.

As Caden and Brighton’s attraction grows despite the odds stacked against a happily ever after, they must work together to stop an Ancient fae from releasing the Queen, who wants nothing more than to see Caden become the evil Prince once feared by fae and mortals alike.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

The King (A Wicked Trilogy #3.6)The King by Jennifer L. Armentrout

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A year is a long time to wait for a continuation of a story and sometimes I find myself having to re-read the previous book to get myself back in the world. I didn’t have to do that with this book and that was a plus for me. While this is a continuation of the first book, The Prince, it didn’t feel as if I forgot anything and the story kind of jumps right back into it.

Caden is now King of the Summer Fae and with that comes certain duties he has to withhold for his people. Brighton thought at one point they were friends, more than friends until he cut her off so she continues on in her quest to find the Fae responsible for killing her mother and nearly killing her.
Everyone seems to forget that Bri is a member of the order and when she is outed for hunting, everyone strongly encourages her to stop. Bri is angry that one one believes she is strong enough to kill an Ancient, including the King and when he drops a bomb on her about part of his duties, she is more determined than ever to prove everyone wrong. But when Bri’s life is put in peril she realizes just how strong she is and how wrong she was.
Although this book is a novella it doesn’t read like one and I guess that has more to do with there being more to the story. There was so much feeling in the scenes with Brighton and the King it was pouring off the pages. And man, the sexy times were REALLY sexy!
The story doesn’t have a cliffhanger per-say, but it does leave you wanting more, like NOW!

Great job once again Jennifer, but also boo because now I have to wait a whole year! 🙂

From the #1 New York TimesUSA TODAY and internationally bestselling author of the fantastical Dark Elements and the Lux series comes a new novel set in a world of gargoyle protectors, rising demons and one girl with an explosive secret.

Eighteen-year-old Trinity Marrow may be going blind, but she can see and communicate with ghosts and spirits. Her unique gift is part of a secret so dangerous that she’s been in hiding for years in an isolated compound fiercely guarded by Wardens—gargoyle shape-shifters who protect humankind from demons. If the demons discover the truth about Trinity, they’ll devour her, flesh and bone, to enhance their own powers.

When Wardens from another clan arrive with disturbing reports that something out there is killing both demons and Wardens, Trinity’s safe world implodes. Not the least because one of the outsiders is the most annoying and fascinating person she’s ever met. Zayne has secrets of his own that will upend her world yet again—but working together becomes imperative once demons breach the compound and Trinity’s secret comes to light. To save her family and maybe the world, she’ll have to put her trust in Zayne. But all bets are off as a supernatural war is unleashed…

8c084-amazonlink241f81-ibookslink2

I did a re-read(And I’m glad I did) and so I was well versed in this world and it picks up 7 months after the event’s of the last book.
Trinity is a (human) living amongst Warden’s, her mother bought her there when she was younger because she befriended the leader of that Clan.
Trinity has never left the confines of the compound and no one visits because, its not safe for her because Trinity isn’t just a normal human.

Zayne make a visit to her Clan and immediately the two are inexplicably drawn to each other and when things start to pop off(Masked wardens and Demon’s attacking, kidnappings and bloodshed) Zayne offers his aid and Trinity is whisked away from her home to DC to find answers.
Throughout her journey, Trinity get’s closer to Zayne but Zayne keeps her pretty much at arms’s length, even though he is drawn to her as well and well, he is still nursing wounds that happened seven months prior that left a huge mark on him and his personality.
Their relationship is a sweet slow burn and as always with this world was filled with action, witty humor and, or course swoon enduing acts.

YN9KQ_s-200x150

I was never a fan of Zayne to begin with but going in I had an open mind and while I still prefer a certain dark haired demon prince(Who is in about 30% of the book, so that made me happy) I found myself not NOT liking Zayne by the end of this.
He is strong willed, sweet and loyal, but to a fault and found myself wanting to just slap him and yell GET OVER IT ALREADY! And just when you think things are settling you are left with more questions but not in a cliffhanger type of way but more like ‘Oh-crap-what’s-going-to-happen-in-the-next-book’ type of way.
Jennifer is really, really really good at mixing the light, the funny, the snark and romance and she excels in this one hands down. I can’t wait to find out what happens to this unlikely gang in the next book!

The Darkest Star(Review Post)

Published October 30, 2018 by bookbesties

In the world of the Lux, secrets thrive, lies shatter, and love is undeniable.

#1 New York Times, USA Today, and internationally bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout brings her trademark drama and intrigue to a new romantic YA science fiction series with The Darkest Star. A girl pulled into in a world she doesn’t understand finds herself confronted by long buried secrets, a betrayal that could tear her life apart…and Armentrout’s most swoonworthy book boyfriend yet.

Seventeen-year-old Evie Dasher knows firsthand the devastating consequences of humanity’s war with the aliens. When she’s caught up in a raid at a notorious club known as one of the few places where humans and the surviving Luxen can mingle freely, she meets Luc, an unnaturally beautiful guy she initially assumes is a Luxen…but he is in fact something much more powerful. Her growing attraction for Luc will lead her deeper and deeper into a world she’d only heard about, a world where everything she thought she knew will be turned on its head…

At the Publisher’s request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

I find myself sucked back into the wonderful world that Jennifer has created with the Luxen, Origin and Hybrids, oh my with The Darkest Star.

This book basically picks up 5 years or so after the last book in the Lux novels; Opposition leaves off.  The invasion has ended we see Evie, a young human girl going to a nightclub with her friend where Luxen are known to frequent. What could go wrong? Enter Luc, Luc is hot, young and infuriating to say the least and naturally Evie can’t stand him, but at the same time is drawn to him in some strange way. From the moment GO, Evie was thrown into a crazy world where Luxen and Humans co living are not the only things she has to worry about.  Luc is bad news the most powerful of all the Origins ever, she has seen him kill without breaking a sweat, Evie knows this, but she can’t seem to stay away from him and he as a familiarity with her that she finds disturbing. When Friends turn to enemies and kids start going missing, then turn up dead, Evie thinks she has seen the worst, but Evie’s life is blown apart and threatened all in the span of 48 hours Luc will stop at nothing to protect what’s his. Luc gave me SERIOUS Professor Snape vibes while showing off his sensitive side to Evie and it MELTED me every time.

Jennifer sucked me back in both humor, fells and some good old fashion smoldering kisses like she is so good at! I can’t wait for the next book and delve more into this awesome new world!

The Prince:1001 Dark Nights Wicked Novella(review post)

Published August 16, 2018 by bookbesties

612NEoKDQzL

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes a new story in her Wicked series…

She’s everything he wants….

Cold. Heartless. Deadly. Whispers of his name alone bring fear to fae and mortals alike. The Prince. There is nothing in the mortal world more dangerous than him. Haunted by a past he couldn’t control, all Caden desires is revenge against those who’d wronged him, trapping him in never-ending nightmare. And there is one person he knows can help him.

She’s everything he can’t have…

Raised within the Order, Brighton Jussier knows just how dangerous the Prince is, reformed or not. She’d seen firsthand what atrocities he could be capable of. The last thing she wants to do is help him, but he leaves her little choice. Forced to work alongside him, she begins to see the man under the bitter ice. Yearning for him feels like the definition of insanity, but there’s no denying the heat in his touch and the wicked promise is his stare.

She’s everything he’ll take….

But there’s someone out there who wants to return the Prince to his former self. A walking, breathing nightmare that is hell bent on destroying the world and everyone close to him. The last thing either of them needs is a distraction, but with the attraction growing between them each now, the one thing he wants more than anything may be the one thing that will be his undoing.

She’s everything he’d die for….

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

OUT NOW(Click Here)

I was familiar with the Wicked world but not so much so that I finished the series, but I should say that if you are not familiar with the Wicked world there are DEFINATE spoilers contained in The Prince.

Warnings aside, I loved it. Brighton is part of the Order, a secret sect in New Orleans committed to fighting the good fight against evil Fae who want to enslave the world. But Brighton isn’t a fighter, she takes care of her mother a once great fighter for The Order who got injured and Brighton is fine with that, she would much rather let Ivy, her friend handle all of that, until tragedy strikes and two years later Brighton is no longer old Brighter but a warrior and a fighter out for vengeance.

Until she stumbles upon, The Prince of the summer Fae, a supposed good Fae who seems to pop up everywhere she is blocking her chances at revenge. When the Summer Fae come to Bri for help with missing young-lings, she can’t say no and thus the mystery, action and suspense ensues along with romance, some crazy serious ‘connections‘ and angst. Brighton is drawn to The Prince and The Prince, well he is invested in Brighton’s well being until things come to a head and the get a lead on the young-lings, and their feeling toward each other. I loved seeing the lives of the other Wicked characters unfold as well.

To say that I hate this is a Novella is an understatement. It obviously stops at the GOOD PART and while it’s not really a cliff hanger per say, you are left with more questions than answers, which is fine, but comeon! Jennifer did such an amazing job setting up this world and bask story in such a sort amount of time that it makes you want to know more, thus going back and reading from where it all started. I can’t wait for the next installment in this!

The de Vincent brothers are back—and so is the intrigue that surrounds them—in New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s sizzling new novel . . .

Nicolette Bresson never thought she’d return to the de Vincents’ bayou compound. It’s where her parents work, where Nikki grew up . . . and where she got her heart broken by Gabriel de Vincent himself. Yet here she is, filling in for her sick mother. Avoiding Gabe should be easy, especially when so much of Nikki’s time is spent trying not to be stabbed in the back by the malicious hangers-on who frequent the mansion. But escaping memories of Gabe, much less his smoking-hot presence, is harder than expected—especially since he seems determined to be in Nikki’s space as much as possible.

Gabriel spent years beating himself up over his last encounter with Nikki. He’d wanted her then, but for reasons that were bad for both of them. Things have now changed. Gabe sees more than a girl he’s known forever; he sees a smart, talented, and heartbreakingly beautiful woman . . . one who’s being stalked from the shadows.

You guys, after reading Lucian’s book, In Moonlight Sins I have waited so long for Gabe’s book and I must say it didn’t disappoint. To say he’s more sexier than Lucian hurts my heart but its true!

Gabe and Nikki semi grew up together and after a summer filled with Nikki flaunting herself at Gabe, one drunken night was all it took to break Nikki’s heart and for Gabe to hate her. Flash forward years later and Nikki is back at the mansion, working in her mother’s place while trying to avoid Gabe at all cost and ignore the evil that is Sabrina and her brother and all the strange things that keep happening to her in that house. That doesn’t stay the case for long as Nikki has run in after run in with Sabrina and her creepy as crap brother Parker and after a fall down some stairs Nikki is super focused on just doing her job and getting out as quickly as possible.

Gabe is finding it hard to keep away form Nikki, after years of thinking he hurt her and being angry at her she’s back and her presence is doing something to him. He tries to be her friend at first but finds he wants more than that. When Gabe catches Parker sniffing around Nik he goes into super protective mood especially when he sees her on date. After that, all bets are off and he knows he should stay away but he can’t and finds little moments to steal to have some super hop sexual encounters, man O man they were hot. Someone has been stalking Nikki and causing little things here and there, and when Gabe finds out, he is determined to save her, and also tell her the one secret he thinks will ruin what they have building.

I loved this story, I obviously hated more of Sabrina and Devlin, that bastard, but I am intrigued about his book. I would have love to seen more of Gabe’s “secret” earlier on aside from the small mention in the beginning but I loved how it all came together and I have a feeling that the hotness factor will be turned up with Dev’s book and as much as I dislike the guy I can’t wait to read it. Well done Jenn, with each book of this series I say “its my fav” so it just keeps getting better and better!

Cover reveal for FRIGID!!!!

Published March 27, 2013 by bookbesties

I was all types of excited that I got to see the cover for FRIGID, I was all

I am a HUGE, GIGANTIC, MAJOR (is that enough) fan of JLA (Jennifer L. Armentrout) and everything that she writes, (this includes scribbles on a napkin if she decides). So I am uberexcited to be able to reveal the cover for her new book, FRIGID. So without making you wait any longer, here it is and it’s so awesome-sauce!

Image

For twenty-one-year-old Sydney, being in love with Kyler isn’t anything new. They’d been best friends ever since he pushed her down on the playground and she made him eat a mud pie. Somewhere over the years, she fell for him and fell hard. The big problem with that? Kyler puts the ‘man’ in man-whore. He’s never stayed with a girl longer than a few nights, and with it being their last year in college, Syd doesn’t want to risk their friendship by declaring her love.

Kyler has always put Syd on a pedestal that was too high for him to reach. To him, she’s perfect and she’s everything. But the feelings he has for her, he’s always hidden away or focused on any other female. After all, Kyler will always be the poor boy from the wrong side of tracks, and Syd will always be the one girl he can never have.
