Act Like You Love Me By Cindi Madsen

ACT LIKE YOU LOVE ME-Cindi Madsen

I was a little hesitant about reading this book, because I have been in a New Adult zone for the past year and was afraid my mind was not going to give it the fair chance it deserved. I’m so glad I did! This was quite an enjoyable book!

So ladies how many of you haven’t told a little white lie about yourself, or omitted the truth when either dating or getting to know a guy? Come on fess up we all have done it…I know I have it’s what intrigued me about this book so much because Brynn just does what we all wish we could do or have done at some point in our lives!

Brynn is an actress and also a self-proclaimed weirdo who quotes lines from plays and love Love and epically tragic love stories. But in high school Brynn was the weird theater geek girl who had a humongous crush on the star of the football team, Sawyer Reins who did know she was alive.

Until one day she decides to ask him out in a rare form of bravery and he shattered all her hopes in the span of seconds. The what happens later in high school only adds insult to injury. Flash forward to a few years later and a make over, Brynn out of college and  running her families bait and tackle shop with her brother is staring in the locale play in her town when their director has to quite and is replaced by none other than.. you guessed it Sawyer Reins. Only he has no clue who she is. But Byrnn still feels the hurt and resentment from all those years ago. Despite her best efforts though she can’t help but be still attracted to him, I mean he was her crush for a reason, and it doesn’t help that he is showing her more interest than a professional one either.

Deciding not to tell him who she really is she decided to one little white lie go, whats the big deal right? But when hearts get involved and the more lies get tangle then what? When the story unfolds of what happened to Brynn in highschool I was very

I couldn’t imagine something like that happening to me in high-school, even though my high-school experience was very  normal, I felt so very bad for Brynn. Then people KEPT bringing it up! I was screaming shut up for her! Cindi did a great job at make me feel Brynn’s pain and the reasons behind her actions, I connected way more with Brynn than I did with Sawyer, even though I understood his actions as well. Brynn is  read-between-the-lines funny (the kind I love) and I couldn’t wait to hear what came out of her mouth! Sawyer was a little hard for me connect with, I would have like to hear more of his side, even though it alternated it was more from Brynn’s side.

I love Cindi’s writing style and after reading this I am definitely going to go and read about Wes and Danni’s story!

Honor Student(Honor #1) by Teresa Mummert

Honor Student (Honor, #1)

If you are like me then once you read a great book by an author then you go back and see if that author has any more books out right? Well if not It’s something I do, so this is what I did after reading Safe Word. I went to see what other books Teresa Mummert had out and I found the “Honor Series”, starting with Honor Student. Now I am not one to take into account negative reviews because books are like shoes, they just don’t fit everyone, so I ignored all the one star reviews and went ahead and got the book anyway but on audiobook cause I figure what the hell right? This book comes with a warning, it’s about BDSM and explicit sex and a teacher/student or Dom/sub relationship.

19% into the book and I was like what the  BLEEP just happened, like seriously? I was all..I don’t even know

I didn’t get how it went from very cool calm and collect to straight into WTF land in 2 seconds flat.  Let’s start with the things I didn’t get/like: Emma the MC, is supposed to be in college but it seems more like high school the way things are, I don’t remember having to sign in at college because you are late. Then there was the first “punishment”, given by Mr. Honor the Dom/teacher.  If that had happened to me, asking for it or not it still would have been the biggest WTF moment of my life and to have it happen at school? What if someone came in with a question? Talk about awkward!

The story line was dangerously close to another book series about a Dom and his sub and a tie…. It seemed like pieces were thrown in to make it flow, but it just didn’t quite make it. Maybe it was the narration (the narration will make it or break it) and It didn’t really sell it as believable when Mr. Honor just busted out with the “I Love You”, I was like really, REALLY?

What I did like was Teresa did do a really good job (in my opinion) of making Emma a loner and coming across and vulnerable and naïve. I also liked how Emma sort of grew a pair in the end with a few certain situations. I can see the series getting better, especially since the net book is told from Mr. Honor’s POV and maybe that will help me warm up to him a little more. I defiantly would not give it one star, but I do want to read the next in the series to see if it gets better.

Obsession by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Obsession (Arum, #1)

JLA has done it again bringing us a story that wraps you up from beginning to end and keeps you wanting more! If you are a fan of  the Luxen world then you know that this book from the Luxen world but told from an Arum POV, and not just nay Arum, it’s from Hunter, one of the most powerful and hottest of his kind. Kinda like another alien we know and love, who makes a very small appearance(sqee).

Hunter is basically going through life as the DOD’s bitch boy, being the arrogant and cocky bastard that he is until his latest assignment is forced upon him.  Serena Cross witnessed her best friend murdered by none other than our beloved Luxen who are the actual bad guys in this novel! I know! We see a whole new evil side to them.

image

Hunter hates that he has been given the task to basically babysit, and a human none the less. But as long as he gets to feed off some Luxen he’s good. Now while this novel takes place in the teenagery Luxen world, this is soooooo not a teenage  novel, this novel was for ADULTS only! Yeeeeea.

I had such mixed feeling going into this novel because if you are familiar with the Luxen world then you known that the Arum are this evil smoky icky Aliens who are just gross.

image

So when I was introduced to Hot as hell and sexy to boot Hunter, I was very pleased.  I actually started to like his smart ass mouth and ways

“God, you’re so bossy.”

“You liked it when I told you to spread you’re legs for me.”

Yea that’s Hunter, all arrogance and non apologetic. and as I watched his hard exterior melt for Serena in more ways than one, I began to LOVE him! I surprisingly began to have ill feelings towards my beloved Luxen! But it’s the character and actions of one Alien not the whole race, same goes now for the Arum.  If you have never read a J.Lyn book you should totally start with this one, even though it’s under JLA this is totes J.Lyn.  I thought it was the perfect amount of steamy and Paranormal.   I found myself wondering what would happen if a  certain Luxen we  love came head to head with Hunter who would win, and I hope I would never have to find out. I may be totally biased because I am a huge fan of JLA and she could write an instruction manual and I would give her a five start review but I loved this book so hard and it was unputdownable.

Safe Word By Teresa Mummert

Safe Word

So, admittedly, the cover and the name of the book is what drew me in, I mean what do you think of when you hear the term “Safe Word?”

Yea,  well after reading the blurp I was intrigue and very surprised at how much I LOVED this book! This is the third book I have read that was solely in the male POV and while I tend to shy away from them I was glad i didn’t with this one. I loved Cole from the moment he opened his mouth. He is everything your typical bad boy would be, cocky and arrogant and sexy!

“The only complaint I’ve had in the bedroom department was being too large”.

Cole had a specific job that he did for a living, he worked for the mob. And what happens when his old high school love Rose who he thought was dead comes back into his life? Well he kidnaps her of course.

This book had so many twist and turns, I started reading this book and before I knew it I was 65% done with the book I had just started. Cole is aught between the girl he once loved and his new crime life and not pissing off his mob boss and getting them both killed. But with vivid flash backs we see more and more into his past with Rose and see that it was more than a high school fling for him. As the story progress truths start to come to light and even truths about Rose, and as they spend more and more time together Cole finds that he never stopped loving her, but is it enough to save both of them?  Just when I thought I had this book figured out BAM something happened to throw me for a loop! The passion between Cole and Rose was pouring off the pages and I’m not sure that would have been the case if Teresa had chosen to write in Roses POV.

The ending had me on the edge of my seat as

image

I would have loved to know the whole story behind Cole and even the story behind Rose and to know what happened after the Epilogue because I am the type that wants more when it’s a good story. So good job Teresa Mummert, you have me hooked and I will be begging you for a second story of Cole and Rose. Begging/stalking whichever.

Excerpt

“So not your biggest fan at the moment,” I said, closing the office door behind me. The runofffrom my jeans had soaked my sneakers pretty good. With each step, I gave a slight squishing noise accompanied by an annoying squeak against the old tile floor.

From across the room, Mom stared. “What happened to you?”

“It attacked me.” Tossing my bag on the couch, I sank into her chair and made sure to grind my butt into the cushion. Got it nice and wet. I was all about sharing the love—and right now, the love was soggy.

She laughed, waving a folder in my direction. “Surely you’re overreacting. It was one little zombie. They don’t attack people.”

“I’m serious, Ma. It tried to drown me. And the client assaulted me with ugly footwear. As far as punishments go, I’d say we’re probably square. I’ve learned my lesson.”

“You’re serious?” Amused expression now replaced by concern, she crossed the room and leaned over her desk to get a better look at me.

“As a coronary.” Once I was sure the chair had sponged up all it could, I stood and huffed past her. Pulling at my favorite T-shirt—the word Fate inside a blood red heart, is a four letter word on the back—I said, “Child welfare would not be happy to hear you tried to feed your only child to a walking corpse…”

“But why would it attack? Did you provoke it?” Folding her arms, she frowned. “Insult it, perhaps?”

I winked at her. “Provoke it? Sure. I went and wiggled my ass in front of it yelling lunch just to see what’d happen.” I’d called it Stinky, but that didn’t count as an insult. Something couldn’t be considered an insult if it was true, right?

Right eyebrow twitching, she fought against a smile. “But you’re okay, right? No bites, broken bones, head injuries, possessions…?”

I smiled and did a little twirl. “All in one piece and still me.”

Mom had a checklist she went through at the end of each job. I was known for taking almost as much damage as I inflicted.

“Oh, and you’re probably going to get a call from the client. I sorta smashed her fence in the process.”

Mom groaned. “I told you to be more careful.”

“It’s not like I tried to break anything.”

“Something tells me you didn’t try hard enough not to break anything, either.”

“In my defense, it wasn’t a simple trap and slap…”

“We can’t afford this.” She reached down and pulled a white envelope out from under a stack of papers. “This is the bill for that Mercedes you smashed.”

“Oh! So not my fault. How was I supposed to know that Spring Heel was gonna land on the car? If it makes you feel any better, I think he was aiming for my head…”

“If you keep this up, we won’t even be able to afford the rent.”

She was right, of course, and it made me feel horrible. “I’m sorry. I guess I’m a wrecking ball wrapped in blue jeans. Take my cut of this job and put it toward the repairs. Keep my paycheck for the next month, too.” A good start, but it didn’t feel like enough. Sure, it would cover the damages—I hoped—but I felt guilty about upsetting her. The bills that were piling up kept her awake at night. This was only going to make things worse. We got a fair amount of business, but the overhead in our line of work was sky high.

As much as I hated the idea, I knew what would cheer her up. “I’ll even throw in pet possessions for the next month.”

Until I break by M. Leighton

Published May 19, 2013 by bookbesties

Until I Break

Now I have been a fan of  M.Leighton ever since I read Down to You, and boy she never disappoints!  Until I Break was another book I could not put down, I literally finished it in a day. Lets start with the story line, I have actually never read a book about an author’s life..I’m sure there are books out there like this but I haven’t read them.

Until I Break is about Samantha who is an author who hides her identity to the world. And then she meets Alec. Alec Brand. What a name right? The name even sounds dangerous and sexy!

Samantha is broken as broken, as they come

She has had a horrible childhood and hides behind her alter ego, Laura Drake a famous author with a huge fan following, she is fine in her life of hiding and has not been in a relationship in two and a half years. She is fine with the thought that she will never find happy ever after, just write about it. Until she sees Alec Brand and he is the embodiment of her male character in her books, Mason.

Alec is everything Mason is, dark, sexy, mysterious and dangerous in all the ways that count.

“I’m not the warm and fuzzy type,”

Alec Brand makes a make on Laura and when Samantha runs into him at a coffee shop and there is an instant attraction on both parts. But Alec is an enigma, promising her pleasure and enjoyment after just meeting her, and Samantha is like a moth to a flame. But both of them are broken with the idea that they will never be able to be loved.

“The things I’m going to do to you, the things I’m going to show you have nothing to do with your job or family or where you spend your time. It’s just about you. And me. And all the pleasure we can give each other.”

I’m pretty good at guessing what’s going to happen in a book(because I read so many) but I the twist in this book, totally didn’t see it coming.

image

I loved that the whole book was in dual POV,  getting into Alec’s head who is BTW more effed up than all the male characters we love(Christen Grey, Travis Maddox and Gideon Cross) Yes, he’s THAT effed up. The irony of it all was just…whoa. They both have secrets, but Alec’s secret is like

image

And it threatens to ruin everything that they both want and need, little do they know. And just when I thought they were all good, one of them starts to have doubts. Again, another thing I didn’t see coming. And I have read A LOT of books that have not shocked me like this one.   The constant tug of war with the Samantha and Alec along with the sexual tension is so palpable it was rolling off the pages in masses. Again I read this book in a one sitting. I know that Michelle said that this was a standalone book but I so want another one, but I also loved the way the story ended, it was perfect. I love HEA’s and this one was perfect. Another great one Michelle, keep em’ coming.

*This Book will no longer be available after the 19th due to the author pulling it from publication, people not understanding the story of two broken people. I am thrilled she wrote this and in love with the book, but maybe that’s because I’m broken too who knows. Michelle did a great job with this story and I’m sad that most people won’t get to read it anymore. *

Necropolis by Anthony Horowitz

Necropolis(The Power of 5/ The Gatekeepers #4)

Necropolis (The Gatekeepers, #4)

In this book we find that Hong Kong has been taken over by the Old ones and has become Necropolis! That is right the City of the Dead.

(Anybody up for a walking dead Marathon?)

Once you are in Necropolis there is no way out. This sucks for our final Gatekeeper Scarlett Adams. The Old ones are luring the other Gatekeepers to Necropolis by holding Scarlett hostage. So now everyone is coming to save the damsel in distress.  Matt is back and along with the other three Gatekeeper’s try to find Scarlett and they all head to Hong Kong. But is Scarlett really in distress?? Scarlett is being held captive but she discovers her power all too soon. Scarlett’s power is the strongest one of  all the 5, she can control the weather. Now the Old ones assumed she could only forecast the weather. So that really messes with the Old One’s plan, but hey that is what you get when you mess with the best you die like the rest.( My Hackers reference, I Love that movie )

The other 4 finally find Scarlett and her  not knowing her own strength unleashes a storm so powerful that no one can stop it. Matt realizes what is going on and grabs a hold of Scarlett and ask for the help from the other Gatekeepers to stop the incoming category 100 Hurricane.

We find they still have to make a run for it from the Old ones and have to use the special doorways that only a gatekeeper can use. These Doorways are built into churches which the 5 can use to teleport around the planet (Hell Yeah). However, you need to know exactly where you want to go otherwise you can find yourself in Zimbabwe or worse.

It all hits the fan when they head to the church to leave Necropolis but it’s all types of  World War 7 going on!  They dash for the doorways to exit but they never discussed where they were going so, leading into the last and final book, Oblivion.

Great follow-up from Nightrise, I found this book be adventurous and funny as usual from Mr. Horowitz. Great character development and I found myself loathing the Old ones more and more every chapter I read. Loved to find that the last Gatekeeper is the strongest of them all. Very Buffy the Vampire slayer. I’m Excited to finish out this series.

Soto Out!

Sweet Peril by Wendy Higgins

Sweet Peril(Sweet Trilogy 2)

Sweet Peril (The Sweet Trilogy, #2)

First you have not read Sweet Evil, then STOP! major spoilers. Second, how awesome is the cover!!!

Now, I was super excited to read this book for one person Kiaden(Ky-den). Yes the son of Lust is, well…..

We find Anna in full work mode after the summit in NY that went horribly wrong and Kia still living in LA, away from Anna. Anna has changed her looks and instead of her friends knowing her as the good girl, she is now known as the party girl to keep the whispers at bay.

She has been doing her best to try and forget about Kia but to no avail   Then she gets a visit and everything changes. She is thrown with Kopano who is a chocolate god and just so happens to be celibate but Anna is the first girl he has had eyes for in like, ever. Even though she is aware of this, her feeling for Kia can’t be replaced which makes for some uncomfortable moments for the two of them. Can you say awkward…

Now armed with a task given to her by her father Anna has to give news of hope to the other Neph’s who hate being the Duke’s pet monkeys. They travel all over and the world gaining allies. All the while she has very little contact with the boy she loves. which her father is none to happy about, I mean who would be happy that their daughter is in love with the son of LUST!  Through her travels we meet other Neph’s and learn some things about the Dukes that makes me dislike them even more.

The thing I like and dislike about trilogy’s is that the second book is almost always my fav book, and it’s also a-gather-info-book or info-comes-to-light book. Wendy did a great job at  unraveling some of the secrets from book one and gave us new information that will more than likely travel over to book three.  This book was very well paced and towards the end I was literally on the edge of my seat because of the intensity(but in a good way). I missed Kia, but when he shows up, he shows UP! I loved all the scenes with him and Anna, it was the right amount of romance for this series.

If you are a mom looking for something for your teen to read or if you are a teen looking to  read a super cool par-romance book look no further, this is it!

Wendy used to be a school teacher, I must say if my teacher was this awesome I probably would have paid attention allot more than I did!

I gave this a 4 out of 5 stars because I missed Kia, that is my ONLY complaint! I’m sure Wendy will make up for that though in the third book(hint hint) 🙂
