Malicious Mischief by Marianne Harden

Published October 27, 2013 by bookbesties

I was über excited about this book by reading the description, at first glance who wouldn’t be right?

Within the first 5 pages I was thoroughly confused about what was going on and I thought it would get better and it was just laying the ground work for an awesome book. Boy was I wrong!

This book was very ADD for me, I found myself scratching my head on more than one occasion while reading it.

I thought it would get better but when I got to page 200 and it was still the same I knew it.  The MC is likable and I think her transformation by the end of the book was great, and the love interest in the book were OK but not fleshed out as much.  I think I wanted to keep reading to see if it would get better and to see the outcome of all the chaos that was happening. I like mystery novels and I find it fun if I can figure out the plot before the end of the book, but this had so much going on it was very hard to focus on , I’m not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.  I did like the witty sayings at the beginning of each chapter.

“Just when you think life’s a bitch, it has puppies.”

I’m sure it was done to have a humorous effect but I didn’t find it that funny. Sadly this book left me more confused than , and not in a good way, than entertained.

Moonlight by Lisa Kessler

Published October 19, 2013 by bookbesties

I love para-romance books and since reading the Twilight saga(yes, I know) I tend to lean more towards the vampire para-romance because, you know Vampires are hot. We all watch TVD so…

And while I am not a fan of the cover (only because it’s not a front shot)I still found this book amazing.  I had read maybe three books about Werewolf’s when Moonlight came across my way. And can I just say wow! Lisa Kessler did an amazing job with mixing romance with paranormal and not have it come off too paranormal. I tend to try and  stay away from the books told in dual POV’s and I’m glad I didn’t know that it was otherwise I may not have been so inclined to read it right away, but I’m glad I did.  This one was done rather well; I think I loved Adams POV better. I loved how Kessler ‘s version of werewolves distinguished between the person and the wolf making for an interesting inner struggle. There were a lot of conflict going on , within the first two chapters there was so much that happened that  I just knew the book was going to be jam-packed with greatness. There was so much the characters struggled with , Adam with himself, Adam with his family, Adam with Lana, Lana with herself, just a whole lotta struggle, which made for a great page turner. And the romance was…

If you thought Vampire romance was hot, wait until Werewolf romance! I really can’t wait for the next book in the series which comes out Monday!  Kessler is on my list for  great para-romance authors, if you have not read anything by her I highly recommend you start with Moonlight!

The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden by Jessica Sorensen

Published October 5, 2013 by bookbesties

The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden (The Coincidence, #1)

I troll other blogs and comments sometime and this is how I found out about the Coincident of Callie and Kayden. I had a lot of different feeling while reading this book. I knew right away what happened to Callie and who did it and so it was no shock to me about her progress and her reactions, it was predictable.

But what was shocking was Kayden. I was not expecting his story to progress how it did. I knew the story of that of a female who was abused, but a guy? No that threw me for a loop. He is an abused man just looking to get away from his father, but he has a secret. His secret is what shocked me and kept me reading more. I was so focused on his secret that I almost missed Callie’s. It’s not outright said upfront,  but it is implied until almost the end. I liked the way Jessica wrote almost all the small details and as a visual person I loved it.

“I unwrapped the gum from its wrapper and popped it into my mouth”

I also loved the realistic banter between all the characters and that also kept me reading more. This book had me feeling so many different emotions and I can’t express them all in this blog. I wish I would have read this book when it very first came out so that I could gush about it with everyone else who read it!  The ending is what is going to get me reading the second book but I’m not sure if I’m ready for sooooo much emotion! I hated how this book ended just because it seemed like it stopped in the middle of a chapter which I hate, I knew there was a second book before reading it, but it didn’t think it would leave me hanging like it did. I was like

For this reason and this reason only I gave this

The Crescent Chronicles by Alyssa Rose Ivy

Published September 25, 2013 by bookbesties

Flight-Sometimes you just have to take flight.
A summer in New Orleans is exactly what Allie needs before starting college. Accepting her dad’s invitation to work at his hotel offers an escape from her ex-boyfriend and the chance to spend the summer with her best friend. Meeting a guy is the last thing on her mind—until she sees Levi.
Unable to resist the infuriating yet alluring Levi, Allie finds herself at the center of a supernatural society and forced to decide between following the path she has always trusted or saving a city that might just save her.

Focus– Freshman year of college is hard even when you’re not tied to the future king of a supernatural society.
Allie dives into college head first with Hailey as her roommate and the city of New Orleans as her backyard. As things within The Society heat up, Allie realizes that whether she’s with Levi or not, she’s in far too deep to turn back.

Found– Levi might be hot, strong, and have a cool set of wings, but it’s not enough to make up for keeping Allie in the dark.
Allie’s tired of being left with more questions than answers. She’s tired of loving a guy who refuses to level with her. Most of all, she’s tired of her life spinning out of control.
Desperate to save Jess no matter the personal cost, Allie has to face the possibility that the only one she can trust is herself.

I saw this book on the .99 cent list and thought it sounded I wasn’t prepared to want to read the rest of the series. While I did have some serious reservations while reading the first book I still became obsessed with them! I read all three in three days.

The first book in the series is Flight, where we find Allie who has just moved from NY to New Orleans. She is working at her dad’s hotel and meets, of course a guy, cue epic romance! I had really serious reservations about  this first book, I did not like this particular writing style, I was reading the characters and felt their actions to things were just non-believable. I found myself saying, ‘Well that’s stupid even in a fictional world’, but still I kept reading. I  did enjoy the originality of the story line and found myself ordering the next two in the series.

Focus is the second book and I found this one to be much better written than the first. The story and plot lines were better and it got me wrapped up so much more than the first. I loved the major conflict of the two main characters and the writing was much stronger. I thought the characters were much more fleshed out than the first and found myself actually liking them much more. I was excited to find out what happened next.

The last book in the trilogy is Found and again with this one it was much better written and had a better overall feel to it. For the series in a whole I would like to have seen more on the supernatural side of it and less the human side. I am a sucker for the paranormal and a good para-romance always gets me. This book is what I like to call a sleeper, because I could see this sneaking up the charts on amazon and goodreads as being a really great paranormal read. It was a quick and easy read and I am definitely going to see what other books Alyssa Rose Ivy has that I can sink my teeth into.

The Hit by David Baldacci

Published September 16, 2013 by bookbesties

The Hit (Will Robie, #2)

First I must tip my hat to Hachette Book Group for their awesome audio production of this book to CD. While listening to the book they give background music and sound effects as if your apart of the book itself. I was not expecting to hear gun shots while driving down the road I had to do a double take out my window,  I thought it was around me and then I realized it was a part of audio book. Keep up the great work Hachette!!

Now let’s talk about the Master Assassin called Will Robie. Will is the man you go to get the work done. He is a highly skilled assassin and is the one the U.S government calls in to eliminate the worst of the worst you know Enemies of the state, monsters committed to killing and harming untold innocent victims. It is Will’s fist or bullet that is the last thing these losers get to see.

With Will being the great assassin that he is, no one can really match up to him except one person. Jessica Reel.  A fellow assassin who works for the same people as Will and who is just as professional and dangerous as she is. And being a woman  gives her a step above Will since she is willing to do anything to get the Job done. I MEAN ANYTHING! (Insert your imagination here).
Now we find that Jessica has gone rogue, turning her gun sights on other members of the agency. The U.S. Government now looks to Will Robie once again. His mission: Bring in Reel, Dead or Alive.
Only a Killer can catch another killer, they tell him.”

Now we have two trained assassins chasing each other. It is like  Mr. & Mrs. Smith all over again.
During Will’s investigation and pursuit of Jessica he comes to question if Jessica is the traitor they made her out to be or is their more to the story than what was told to him? Let the chaos and mayhem commence!
I would say this was a page turner but I had the audio book for this one so it was an amazing roller coaster ride filled with surprises and pulse-racing action.
David gave us some captivating characters that you had not choice to either like them or LOATH entirely. I was so committed to this book I could not wait to see what would happen next! This was the second book David has completed for Will Robie his first book with Will was The Innocent released April 2012. I will definitely put that on my must have list.

Taming Cross by Ella James

Published September 10, 2013 by bookbesties

Taming Cross (Love Inc., #2)

For twenty-three years, Cross Carlson was a playboy. You know the type. Tall, dark, and wealthy. Blue-eyed. Charming. He seemed to have it all so easy. But Cross was harboring a terrible secret – one that helped ruin the life of an innocent girl and almost ended his own.
Finally out of the hospital, Cross is flailing, scarred in both body and mind and stifled by the weight of the secret he still keeps. The only way to absolution lies in a Mexican convent, and going there could cost him everything.
If there’s anyone who knows what it’s like to screw up big time, it’s Meredith Kinsey. Just a few years ago, Merri was an ordinary girl with a job at her college newspaper and white picket fence kind of dreams. Now she’s holed up in a Mexican convent, hiding from a drug lord who thinks he owns her.
What happens when the only way out of hell is with the son of the man who put you there? They say love conquers all, but does it really?

First off, with a cover like this who wouldn’t want to know what’s inside this book. I mean look at it!

I was really excited to read this book because it was the 2nd in the Love Inc. books and it was about new characters and old ones, and having loved the first book Selling Scarlett which you can read my review here, and  I was sure I was going to love this one as well.  I was right. Taming Cross was so not what I expected, I can’t tell you what I was expecting but it wasn’t it. And it’s not a bad thing, I think the thing I like most about Ella James books this one included, is that they are sexy, you know  a stolen smile here, a touch there, holding hands and  maybe some stolen moments throughout to really make your feel the tension between the two MC’s.

Don’t confuse SEX with sexy, there is a difference. While there is sex in this book it’s  not overtly and not it’s driving force.  The movies are not right, you actually DON’T have time for all  that when you are running for your life, which is what they are doing.

I loved the fact that Cross Carlson the main MC is not your average hero, hell he’s not even a hero by any means but his moral compass makes him one, and he sets out on this suicide mission but I must have missed the memo where he was a secret bad ass, the things he did just blew my mind.  The action in this book was amazing to read, Ella is a very detailed writer so I have no problem picturing exactly what she lays out in a scene, I felt like I was watching SOA.

Ella did a great job in leaving just enough questions and mystery to travel into the next book which is about Mr. Love Inc. himself and I can’t wait,  I love following these group of people who did not start out as friends but are all tied together .

Real Blog tour- Interview with Katy Evans

Published September 7, 2013 by bookbesties

Unless you have been living under a rock you should have already caught the fever that is Remy! And if you have been following my twitter or FaceBook feed then you should also know how obsessed I am with all things Katy Evans and Remy. Well imagine my delight when I got the honor of interviewing Katy for the Real Re-release which are in your local Targets everywhere so go now! Need more motivation?

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00071]

Remington Tate has a bad-boy rep in and out of the ring, a granite-hard body, and a raw, animal power that sends his female fans into a frenzy. But from the moment their eyes lock, the only woman he wants is Brooke Dumas. His desire is pure, all-consuming, and REAL.
Hired to keep his perfect body working like a machine, Brooke finally has the lucrative sports therapy job she’s been dreaming of. But as she tours the dangerous underground fighting circuit with Remy and his team, Brooke’s own body becomes alive with the most primal of hungers. If what happens between Brooke and Remy is ever as light as a flirtation, it quickly becomes an erotic obsession for them both, and promises so much more.
But their white-hot lust has a dark side–and when Remy’s deepest secret comes to light and Brooke’s familial duties demand action, will the pair be able to hang on, or will everything that once seemed so real suddenly fade away like an illusion?

You can also check out my first ever 6 star review here, and trust me I don’t hand out 6 stars all willy- nilly.

Author Interview

Thank you so much for allowing me to do this, you know I am slightly in awe of you!

Thanks so much for having me over, it’s a pleasure to be here.

The choice of music in the book is phenomenal, I always liked what I like to call Remy’s theme song Iris but after REAL, I LOVED it. What came first for the idea of the book, the song or the story?

First came the story. More exactly first came the characters. Remy was so strong he overpowered everyone even when he’s reserved and quiet. But the story came because of what he wanted, which the title is based on, and as I wrote the story and got to know him and Brooke, Iris happened. I felt just like you, I have always admired Goo Goo Dolls and loved that song, but Remy gave it a whole new meaning for me.

What scene was your favorite to write?

The reveal scene is my favorite. Where you tie everything together, know what’s been going on, finally “get” the title, I just love that scene. No more pretenses, no more walls up, just bare raw need and truth, right there between them.

I’m so excited for you with all the success Real has had and congrats! How are you handling the fame/success?

Thank you so much! It’s truly been unreal and amazing, but to be honest, I don’t think I’ve stopped even for a moment to bask in any of it since I am so eager to keep telling their story and sharing it with you. I’m just so glad and grateful to everyone who has read Real and has opened their hearts to it like you did.

Inside the mind of Katy Evans

Last song sung out loud to?(I’m talking at the top of your lungs out loud)

Jason Derulo’s “The Other Side”

Are you more of a Remy playlist kinda girl or Brook’s?

I’m more into the kind of songs Brooke listens but I’ve gotten quite attached to so many of Remy’s songs.

Three things in your purse/ pocket right now?

Cell phone, wallet, and keys

What song best describe how you are feeling right now?

I was just listening to Katy Perry’s ROAR and I have to admit that song makes me feel pretty feisty.

I love that song too!  What actor/actress would you choose to be voice the audiobook?

There’s an audiobook releasing as we speak and I can’t wait to hear the REAL voice used! 🙂

Did you own a walk man, and if so what was the color?

Pink walk man. I so loved my walk man! 🙂

Didn’t we all!  Thank you so much Katy as always it was a pleasure and I can’t wait to meet you again!

Thank you so much, Vonetta. It truly is my pleasure to be here and I can’t wait to meet you too!

Ruin by Rachel Van Dyken

Published September 6, 2013 by bookbesties

Ruin

I’m not your typical girl. I’ve been running away from the memories that haunt me for so long that depression has become my only comfort. I was content in the darkness…until Wes Michals offered to be my light. I didn’t know that time wasn’t my ally — that every second that ticked past was one step closer to the end of something that was beginning to mean the end of myself. He tried to warn me. He promised me all he was able to offer–each moment as it came–but it would never be enough.

” His eyes held my ruin.”  “His kisses didn’t give- they ruined.”

There are a few books that grab you by the heart and squeeze until it hurts from the very first chapter. I am a sucker for a good book, ones that make me think about loss, and love and faith and when I can find all that in one book I open my big ass mouth and tell the world (the world meaning anyone who reads this blog).

Ruin is about all those things above and more. I had no idea who Rachel Van Dyken  was nor had read anything by her, but I kept hearing that Ruin tore people’s hearts out,  so naturally it moved to the top of my TBR pile (because who doesn’t want thier heart torn out by a book?)

Kiersten is just starting her freshman year after her parents died, she is depressed and runs into quite literally Weston, and from there her life will never be the same.  Weston was just moving through life counting down his minutes until they were up, it was only when meeting Kiersten that he wanted more time.

I loved the supporting characters Gabe and Lisa. Everything that came out of Lisa’s mouth made me fall off my chair laughing, making the book have a nice balance between the heavy and the lite.

“He’s talking football,  shh, it’s like a watching a baby turtle trying to find the ocean.”

The book is told in dual POV’s and while normally I don’t think it works for all stories it did for this, because there were certain scenes that I was dying to know how the other person felt and Rachel accomplished that without being repetitive.

Weston ‘Wes’ Michals was hot and smart and I loved when he got deep and insightful

“It’s human nature to assume that we have that sort of control over what happens to us, but the truth is… Life happens and sometimes you’re too late. Hell, sometimes you’re too early. Sometime you make the wrong choice just like sometimes you make the right one. The only time people ever use those three is when things don’t go the right way. People don’t question themselves when things are going well. They question when things have go to hell.”

By the time I was finished this book (at one o’clock in the morning) my throat hurt so much form trying (and failing many times) to hold back the tears I thought OK, i’m done

But when I got to the dedication which rightfully was placed at the end, I lost it. I needed to calm myself and have a moment.

This book was more gut wrenching than other books on this topic because of the way it was written. RVD mixed the perfect amount of love, grief, and faith balancing it all out evenly. I loved loved loved it, I would recommend this to my 16 year old cousin as well as my 86 year old grandmother! I will defiantly be reading more of Rachel Vane Dyken books.  Now if you’ll excuse me
