This is a new author to me but I figured ok rockstar and MM I will give it a go. I love the cover so that was a plus and the blurb hooked me a bit more. So now moving along to starting the book. I really enjoyed her writing style. This was a winner for me. First you have Jamie , the rockstar, who is famous and a huge sex symbol to the world but has a huge secret about his sexual orientation. Then there is out and proud Sammy who is smooth and funny and just gives you the cool guy vibe. I love the story of Jamie emotions and his struggles of being gay but having to have that image that you feel you have to portray yourself as. Their connection was sweet and heartwarming. This was a home run for me. There was never a dull moment and I loved the friend group. I love it when a author creates a environment in the book and you just wish that it was real and happening now so I can go chill and play Mario Kart too! Lol overall win from cover to end for me.

A Lady’s Formula for Love (The Secret Scientists of London Book 1) by Elizabeth Everett REVIEW POST

Published March 17, 2021 by bookbesties

What is a Victorian lady’s formula for love? Mix one brilliant noblewoman and her enigmatic protection officer. Add in a measure of danger and attraction. Heat over the warmth of humor and friendship, and the result is more than simple chemistry–it’s elemental.

Lady Violet is keeping secrets. First, she founded a clandestine sanctuary for England’s most brilliant female scientists. Second, she is using her genius on a confidential mission for the Crown. But the biggest secret of all? Her feelings for protection officer Arthur Kneland.

Solitary and reserved, Arthur learned the hard way to put duty first. But the more time he spends in the company of Violet and the eccentric club members, the more his best intentions go up in flames. Literally.

When a shadowy threat infiltrates Violet’s laboratories, endangering her life and her work, scientist and bodyguard will find all their theories put to the test–and learn that the most important discoveries are those of the heart.

Ok Besties, it is my pleasure to introduce you to break out author Elizabeth Everett. In this her first book we get to see her attention to detail in both building a multitude of characters but in the intricate ways they all interact with one another, and how each interaction is worked into the story line in ways that allow you grow to know the hero and heroine individually outside of their interactions.   It was a unique experience and I really enjoyed it.  I also was surprised that although this heroine is literally a damsel in distress, who our hero has been hired to safeguard, and not my typical cup of- sassy, independent, knows what she wants, bada$$ heroine- tea, I found myself championing her success and loving her all the same.  What she lacks in self-confidence, poise, and cunning she makes up for in determination, goodwill, and intelligence and seriously those things combined give her a different kind of strength.  A kind of quiet strength that I think the world needs to recognize more of, so bravo to this author for spotlighting it!  This isnโ€™t your typical historical romance in that the setting is a secret society for lady scientists and really, that alone was half of the fun of the book, you never knew when something would randomly explode or crawl out from under the door. Of course the other half of the excitement that makes this book such an enjoyable read is the romance that we see bloom between our damsel and her guardian.  Watching as both characters discover their self-worth through their reflection in the otherโ€™s eyes and witnessing the amount of personal growth and discovery the connection between them allows warms my heart and brings a smile to my face every time I think about it.   Lady Violet Greycliff and Authur Kneland perfect for each other and I am glad they get their HEA.

ย ย ย ย ย So with all that in mind I think it is safe to safe that I really liked this book, I am excited to see where this authorโ€™s career will take us, and I canโ€™t wait to see what all of you think as well.ย

Prey (Blackwater Pack Book 2) Release Day Post + Review!

Published January 8, 2021 by bookbesties

That was thenโ€ฆ

After escaping her birth pack, being kidnapped, and nearly dying on the mountain, Skye has found a home in Blackwater. Surrounded by friends and family, and her mate, she’s ready for her final semester at Granite Peak Academy to be a lot quieter, and a lot more uneventful, than last year.

โ€ฆthis is now

When shifters from the academy are taken, Skye and her pack are forced to return to Blackwater. With the Spring Summit looming, Skye will finally have to face the demons of her past if she wants to have a life with Remy.

Things arenโ€™t what they seem

Skye is done running and ready to fight for her future. She’ll do whatever it takes to protect the ones she loves … even if the threat is from someone she trusts.

PREY is the second book in the Blackwater Pack series, and should be read in order:

#1: SANCTUM
#1.5: BROKEN

It contains scenes and themes not suitable for younger readers, including bullying, abuse, and sexual themes/scenes. Recommended age: 17+

Prey (Blackwater Pack, #2)Prey by Hannah McBride
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is probably my fav book(so far) from this series and I’m so excited everyone else gets to enjoy it as much as me!

Prey Picks up a few weeks after where Sanctum left off and a few weeks where the companion novella Broken left off as well and Skye has finally started to settle into her new life with friends, new family and her mate, Remy.
Everything is perfect, the gang is back at GPA the sun is shinning, she’s in love and experiencing things she never though she would….. until female shifters start disappearing and the school is forced to take drastic measures.
Skye has to face past horrors and people whom she never though she’d have to see again and her will and her mates is tested and stretched.

I loved this book simply because we see Skye really come into her own at this point, with herself, her feelings, and her role as Remy’s mate. Hannah did a superb job at the range of emotions that flew off the page from, elation, to excitement to heartbreak, to fear, to love. Skye’s journey in this book is a hard one and at time super emotional and the story made me cry but then in the next chapter also made me smile and laugh. By the end of the book I was defiantly left with a super O face of shock(๐Ÿ˜ฎ)and immediately needed more.
All those markers I have for a great book/story/world were awesomely checked off with Prey!

Intriguing plotโœ”๏ธ
Relatable Characters(even down to the side characters)โœ”๏ธ
Humorโœ”๏ธ
emotion so real I needed a chapter breakโœ”๏ธ
Steamy sexy timesโœ”๏ธโœ”๏ธโœ”๏ธโœ”๏ธ
Thirst for moreโœ”๏ธโœ”๏ธโœ”๏ธโœ”๏ธโœ”๏ธโœ”๏ธ

I’m am HERE for the conclusion of this amazing world in the final book!!

A Co-Worker’s Crush by Piper Rayne(Review Post)

Published January 5, 2021 by bookbesties

Release Date: January 5

Three tattoo guns.

Five motorcycle tires.

Countless T-shirts.

Thatโ€™s what I lost before I realized nothing good comes from dating my co-workers.

Usually, I donโ€™t have much self-control. So, the fact that Frankie Grant is a hot, talented tattoo artist means itโ€™s a damn miracle she hasnโ€™t already been in my bed. But nothing can happen between us because Frankie comes with Jolie, her young daughter, and a crap load of baggage from her ex. And those are two things I never entertain.

Anyone who knows meโ€”the screwed up foster kid from the wrong side of the tracksโ€”knows Iโ€™m not the guy you take home to meet your parents, let alone your kid. But I also know what itโ€™s like not to have parents, so things get complicated when Jolie asks me to be her daddy.

I might as well just slash my own tires now.

This is sadly the last book in this series and I can say Piper Rayne killed it AGAIN! This is a co worker/somewhat enemies to lovers/ friends to lovers trope that delivers on all levels. We met Jax who is the bad boy foster kid that has his heart on lockdown. Love and leave them is his style and does not want any commitment. Frankie is his co worker who is a single mom of a cute 5 year old and recently left a bad relationship from her ex who is a addict. Frankie and Jax have that love hate banter back and forth and love to get their digs in. Hence the bet of Jax being Mr Celibate and things really start to heat up. When I tell you the tension is so thick between these two but seeing how Jax is with Jolie (Frankieโ€™s daughter) and it will melt your heart and make those ovaries burst! I love it when these bad boys fall hard! One great thing about this author is that they truly create a world that you want to be a part of. The friends are funny and great personalities and the stories that flow so fluently is so refreshing. You always hate to say goodbye to a series but seeing the characters for the next series is exciting. They give you a taste that will leave you craving for more!!

Campus Player By Jennifer Sucevic (Review Post)

Published December 29, 2020 by bookbesties

Release Date: December 26

Trust me when I say that Rowan Michaels fever is

alive and well at Western University. His fanbase is

legendary.

The guy is a major player.  Both on and off the field.

Girls fall all over themselves to be with him. They fill the

stands at football practice, show up at parties heโ€™s rumored to

be at, and basically stalk him around campus.

Itโ€™s a little nauseating.

Donโ€™t these girls have any self-respect when it comes to a hot

guy?

Fine…Iโ€™ll admit it, heโ€™s good looking. If youโ€™re into that kind of

thing. Which Iโ€™m not. Iโ€™ve got school and soccer to keep me

busy which is exactly why I avoid him like an unfortunate clap

diagnosis.

Too bad for me that Rowan is my fatherโ€™s star quarterback. Heโ€™s practically part of

the family, attending Wednesday night dinners with us. To make matters worse,

weโ€™re in the same major and get stuck together in classes every semester. Itโ€™s like

the universe is trying to play a cosmic joke on me. The one guy Iโ€™d like to steer clear

of is the very same one I canโ€™t seem to get away from.

But what if Rowan isnโ€™t the manwhore I pegged him to be?

What if one little secret has the capability to change everything between us?

*This is a mature New Adult novel with strong language and sexual situations

intended for readers over the age of 18*

This is a sports college romance. This is like a enemies to lover trope I would say. Demi is the daughter to the football coach and she has always thought that Rowan was a womanizer and cocky. Rowan is the star Football player and has been around Demi every Wednesday for her family weekly dinner with his coach. The attraction and tension is there and intensified when the coach asks for Demi to tutor Rowan. Once the secret is out Demi starts to see Rowan differently and it becomes a different ball game. Rowan is sweet and sexy and Demi can stand her ground.
It was a nice story but I felt that Demi could have been a little more aware of the feelings for Rowan and felt Rowan could have pursued her more. All in all it was a new author to me and I would not be opposed to reading other books from the author.

A Wright Christmas by K.A. Linde(Review Post)

Published December 3, 2020 by bookbesties

A new second chance single dad stand alone romance set in the world of the Wrights from USA Today bestselling author K.A. Lindeโ€ฆ

At seventeen, I left Isaac Donoghue behind to become a professional ballerina.

When I return home to dance in the Nutcracker, I never expect to run into him. Let alone on my first day in town. I canโ€™t help but admire him in a crisp suit with his toned soccer body, chiseled jaw line, and all too familiar piercing green eyes. I thought nothing could surprise me more.

Until his five year old daughter runs out of the ballet studio.

Iโ€™m only in town for a month. I shouldnโ€™t get involved with anyone, especially the ex Iโ€™ve been pining after for years. Especially when he has a daughter to consider.

But where Isaac is concerned, Iโ€™ve never been able to stay away.

With the help of some Christmas magic, maybe we finally have a shot at our second chance.

A Wright ChristmasA Wright Christmas by K.A. Linde
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Second chance romance with a single dad and his old high school sweetheart set during the holidays. Peyton is home for a month and runs into her once love Isaac. When they were younger they went on separate paths in life but It seems like both of them still had love for each other. Now being around each other those feelings come to the surface. Will they be able to make things work now? It was a short and sweet story. They are in the ballerina world so that is in the forefront . There is little drama and just overall a nice holiday second chance romance.

The Do Over by Piper Rayne(Review Post)

Published December 3, 2020 by bookbesties
Release Date: December 1

She was always the one.

Or so I thought.

Turns out my instincts were dead wrong.

Years ago I was faced with the choice between two women. Both were perfect in opposite ways. One was carefree and against commitment. The other was a woman youโ€™d bring home to mom.

I was young, naรฏve and stupid. Iโ€™m sure you can guess who I chose.

Now, Iโ€™m older, wiser and know what the hell I want.

So, when the same two women pop back into my life itโ€™s my chance for a do-over. But they flipped the script. Just like me, they want different things now. Leaving me with one choiceโ€”convince the woman I want that she wants me too.

This was a second chance romance from the Rooftop Crew. If you have read the series we all know Knox is more private so you have gotten glimpses here and there with a little mystery to his story. What happens when you make a decision and you look back at what if I would have chose differently? Well Knox in the past chose a woman that was wrong for him and now both women are back in his life. Now he is determined to chose the right one but of course itโ€™s never that easy. We all love a man in a uniform so Knox being a cop draws you in. Kamea has some challenges ahead and her hands full with Knox. He has some growing to do in this story and really decide what he wants in his life. I like that Kamea was a strong character and had some softness to her but really knew how to give Knox a run for his money. You are rooting for love the whole time. Of course Piper Rayne does what they do best and you will see characters from the past books which is always great. This was a win and great read for me. I canโ€™t wait for Jax story.

The Mistletoe Trap by Cindi Madsen(Review Post)

Published December 3, 2020 by bookbesties

From the moment Julie sees her best friend, Gavin, in the airport, itโ€™s like no time at all has gone by instead of months and months. No matter how long theyโ€™ve been apart, their relationship has always been steady, comfortable, and decidedly just friends. Even though their meddling parents have hung what seems like unlimited amounts of mistletoe everywhere she goes this holiday season, Julie knows some things will never change.

Gavin is well-aware his familyโ€™s wanted him and Julie to get together since forever, even though heโ€™s been friend-zoned since they could talkโ€”and heโ€™s been happy to play that role. After all, as the new starting quarterback for the San Antonio Mustangs, heโ€™s got enough on his plate without adding romance to the mix.

But between playing elves in the holiday bazaar to nights spent one-on-one watching rom-coms or soaking in their townโ€™s hot springs, suddenly the โ€œreverse parent trapโ€ theyโ€™ve fallen into is actually starting to work. But this could be one scheme where letting themselves get trapped might be way too dangerous.

The Mistletoe Trap (Heart in the Game, #2)The Mistletoe Trap by Cindi Madsen
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Here is a good Christmas read that has a bit of sports also mixed with friends to lovers trope mixed in. The two main characters Gavin and Julie have been besties since birth. Gavin is a NFL star and she is a pathologist . Unfortunately they both live in different states so trying to match up their schedules has been hard. Gavin has a injury that has him in his hometown and Julie is visiting. Enter in mission Parent Trap by both their parents who want to see these two together. These two start to develop feelings and it is a slow burn. I tend to be impatient so of course it killed me to wait for them to fall for each other. I did really enjoy how solid of a friendship they truly have. The chemistry these two have is steamy. Itโ€™s not too much sports but has a good balance. Itโ€™s a sweet read just in time to get you ready for the holidays!

The Duke Effect (Rogue Files)(Review Post)

Published November 13, 2020 by bookbesties

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Sophie Jordan continues her bestselling Rogue Files series with this captivating romance that will thrill her many fans.

She doesnโ€™t care about loveโ€ฆ

Despite being surrounded by her happily wed sisters, Nora Langley prefers botany to ballrooms and would rather spend a lifetime in her laboratory than consider affairs of the heart. An expert herbalist, Nora has been masquerading as her late physician father for years, dispensing invaluable medical advice. She corresponds with people all over the world, including an old army colonel. But when the man shows up on her doorstep, he is nothing like she expectedโ€”he is a young, handsome heir to a dukedom who suddenly threatens everything she holds dear.

He only cares about dutyโ€ฆ

Constantine Sinclair arrives on the Langley doorstep in a desperate bid to save the woman who raised him, the Duchess of Birchwood โ€ฆ only to discover that the venerable doctor he expected is a bold and lovely charlatan. Furious at the deception, he vows to reveal her secrets. Determined to prove her skills, Nora promises to save the duchess in exchange for Con keeping her secret. Con reluctantly agreesโ€ฆ and soon Noraโ€™s brilliant, headstrong ways are throwing his carefully controlled life into chaos. What happens when the rigid soldier begins to lose his grip on his heart?

Book number 3 of Sophie Jordanโ€™s Rogue Files series is wonderful! While it may be part of a series it absolutely can hold its own as a standalone. This series really shows how creative this author is because all three leading ladies are entirely different yet none of their individual characters is lacking. Each sister is unique and has been given a story that fits them perfectly in a way that shows how much love the author put
into each character.

This is a quality that has me jumping at the chance to read and share with all of you any book by Sophie Jordan that comes my way. I can only hope that we get one more book from this series where we get to meet the fourth Langley sibling, the girlsโ€™ younger brother who has been away at school throughout the entire series and whom we really know very little about. I would love to see how much each of his sistersโ€™ unique traits have rubbed off on him as he grew into a man. This is Noraโ€™s book and it is everything we hoped it would be! It had me gasping in indignation and holding my breath in anticipation on her behalf more than once. Naturally such a confident, self-assured, scientific-minded woman would need an equally strong and disciplined counterpart as well as a mystery illness and stacked odds to open her heart and mind to the ideas of love and romance as more than physiological topics to be studied.

Fortunately, that is exactly what we get with Con and this book. We get to see Nora blossom from self-isolating bluestocking to equality warrior to impassioned lover and it is a truly memorable journey all the way. Nora Langley is a practiced healer who would love nothing more than to go to medical school and become a doctor, unfortunately thatโ€™s not an option for women in England. But she isnโ€™t going to let that stop her from her lifeโ€™s work of helping and healing people. In fact, after her years of practicing and studying under her father, it is this drive to use her knowledge and skills to help people that has her maintain her fatherโ€™s medical correspondences in his place after he passes.

Little did she think she would ever come face to face with one of those correspondences while living on her Brother In-lawโ€™s country estate, much less that he would threaten to expose her deception, no matter how many people she had helped. There is only one thing to do. Follow him, save the Duchess thus proving her skill, and convincing him not to ruin her reputation. Can she do it or will her ego have gotten her into a situation her cures can not fix? Constantine Sinclair is now the heir to the Duke of Birchwood. He owes everything to the Duke and Duchess and that is why he has ridden hard directly from London to find the doctor he has been
corresponding with or the last several years, a doctor who specializes in pain management and who he hopes will be able to figure out what is wrong with the Duchess and save her.

A doctor who he throughout the years he thought was his friend and whom he has shared personal things with. A doctor who he quickly discovers isnโ€™t actually a doctor or even a man! Outraged he knows he must do what is right and return to London immediately, and expose the imposter for who she is to everyone he referred to her. He never expected her to follow him, or for her to scam her way into his house and dedicate herself to helping the Duchess, all just to prove that she is who she says she is. Can this charlatan be as good as she claims? Can he ever forgiver her deception and see her as the friend he thought he had? I loved this book and series and I really hope this wasnโ€™t the final book so we get to meet the Langley
brother.

Love Is a Rogue: Wallflowers vs. Rogues(Review Post)

Published November 13, 2020 by bookbesties

Once upon a time in Mayfair a group of wallflowers formed a secret society with goals that had absolutely nothing to do with matrimony. Their most troublesome obstacle? Rogues!

They call her Beastly Beatrice.

Wallflower Lady Beatrice Bentley longs to remain in the wilds of Cornwall to complete her etymological dictionary. Too bad her brotherโ€™s Gothic mansion is under renovation. How can she work with an annoyingly arrogant and too-handsome rogue swinging a hammer nearby?

Rogue. Scoundrel. Call him anything you like as long as you pay him.

Navy man Stamford Wright is leaving England soon and renovating Thornhill House is just a job. Itโ€™s not about the dukeโ€™s bookish sister or her fiery copper hair. Or the etymology lessons the prim-yet-alluring lady insists on giving him. Or the forbidden things he’d love to teach her.

They say never mix business with pleasure. But when Beatrice and Ford aren’t arguing, they’re kissing.

Sometimes temptation proves too strong to resistโ€ฆeven if the cost is a heart.

In this book the wallflowers win and being a bluestocking can endear you to the heart of even the most handsome rogue. I am a sucker for underdog stories and this one fits the bill. Between the bluestocking, wallflower, self-isolating, dictionary author heroine and the devilishly handsome, born on the wrong side of the cloth, sea faring, Naval carpenter hero this
story is full of underdogs determined not to let the world get in the way of their plans for the future. I adore how wonderfully smart AND witty this leading lady is.

And I may or may not have been inclined to add a few words from Beatriceโ€™s dictionary to my vocabulary as they are too fun to pass up. I found this story empowering and I am excited to read the rest of this
series to see where it takes us. Lady Beatrice Bentley also known as Beastly Beatrice is ready to retire to life as a spinster so she can finally immerse herself in her own pursuit of happiness, she just needs to get through this last season and her motherโ€™s determination to see her married at all costs. In an attempt to get work done on her lifeโ€™s work, her etymological dictionary she went looking for solace in the library of her brotherโ€™s Cornwall estate. Little did she know that her brother had hired a handsome rogue of a carpenter to do renovations and thusly disrupt her peace
while she was there. Armed with a long list of that entirely too loud, to attractive, to distracting, carpenterโ€™s transgressions to give to her brother, she returns to London to be subjected to her motherโ€™s scheming and ministrations to find her a husband.

While there she
discovers that she has not only a long-lost aunt who shares her same passion for books but that she inherited a book shop that specializes in rare and antique books. Determined to keep the bookshop and the priceless books from being sold out from under her she is forced to hire none
other than that same roguish carpenter from Cornwall to make the repairs and help her save her legacy. Will she find a friendship where she least expects, or will she lose it all for trusting a
rogue? Stamford โ€œFordโ€ Wright comes from a long line of carpenters, only he follows a different path by becoming a shipโ€™s carpenter for the Navy. He is happy with his life at sea and has only come ashore while waiting for his next ship to help his injured father finish a renovation on Thornhill House. He is there to work, not to flirt with the vibrant redheaded, bookish, sister of the Duke.

But she is always staring at him and he finds himself constantly looking for her too. Good thing the job is finished, and he is heading to London to meet his next ship. He just needs to meet with the Duke to let him know of some suspicious accounting activity he noticed before heading back to sea. He does not need to get involved with helping that same redheaded
bluestocking renovate a bookstore or to fall in love with her.

This book was so much fun to read. I canโ€™t wait to see how all of you like it.
