Legacy by Hannah McBride(Review Post)

Published April 10, 2021 by bookbesties

An unexpected alliance

After the explosions that rocked the Alpha Summit, Skye wakes up separated from her mate and with a family she never knew existed. The more she learns of this new world she comes from, the more she realizes she will never outrun her own legacy.

Reality is a nightmare

Remy survived the attack at the Summit, but he lost more than he could have imagined. As the shifter world descends in chaos, he will have to find a way to hold it all together without Skye at his side.

War is coming

Together Skye and Remy will confront their enemies, old and new, as they fight for the survival of their pack. One final war. Winner take all.

***LEGACY is the third book in theBlackwater Pack series and the final book in Skye & Remy’s story. It contains dark and mature themes (including flashbacks of sexual assault and bullying) that may be triggering to some readers.***

I thought Hannah tugged on my feels with Sanctum, they she tugged a little more with Broke, and Prey…well, SHE RIPPED THEM OUT in Legacy! I pride myself on not crying while reading books, I may get emotional but I don’t cry.

I had ACTUALY TEARS down my face with this book!
So many ups and down’s and holy cow moments(good and bad) this is the actual definition of when someone says, ‘that was a rollercoaster of emotions’. Legacy gives us laughs, tears, hate, fear, and love…so much love.
Remy and Skye grow SO much from book 1, to this book and Skye especially. Skye grew and HEALD and also brought light to a lot of things people don’t often like to think about, abuse survivor and non-abuse survivor a like. The dynamics and politics of this story were great and so iatrical, Hannah literally weaves this world so easily. I fell in love with new character and old and the ending…….was EPIC.

Definitely one of my top 2021 reads and its only April!

Prey (Blackwater Pack Book 2) Release Day Post + Review!

Published January 8, 2021 by bookbesties

That was then…

After escaping her birth pack, being kidnapped, and nearly dying on the mountain, Skye has found a home in Blackwater. Surrounded by friends and family, and her mate, she’s ready for her final semester at Granite Peak Academy to be a lot quieter, and a lot more uneventful, than last year.

…this is now

When shifters from the academy are taken, Skye and her pack are forced to return to Blackwater. With the Spring Summit looming, Skye will finally have to face the demons of her past if she wants to have a life with Remy.

Things aren’t what they seem

Skye is done running and ready to fight for her future. She’ll do whatever it takes to protect the ones she loves … even if the threat is from someone she trusts.

PREY is the second book in the Blackwater Pack series, and should be read in order:

#1: SANCTUM
#1.5: BROKEN

It contains scenes and themes not suitable for younger readers, including bullying, abuse, and sexual themes/scenes. Recommended age: 17+

Prey (Blackwater Pack, #2)Prey by Hannah McBride
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is probably my fav book(so far) from this series and I’m so excited everyone else gets to enjoy it as much as me!

Prey Picks up a few weeks after where Sanctum left off and a few weeks where the companion novella Broken left off as well and Skye has finally started to settle into her new life with friends, new family and her mate, Remy.
Everything is perfect, the gang is back at GPA the sun is shinning, she’s in love and experiencing things she never though she would….. until female shifters start disappearing and the school is forced to take drastic measures.
Skye has to face past horrors and people whom she never though she’d have to see again and her will and her mates is tested and stretched.

I loved this book simply because we see Skye really come into her own at this point, with herself, her feelings, and her role as Remy’s mate. Hannah did a superb job at the range of emotions that flew off the page from, elation, to excitement to heartbreak, to fear, to love. Skye’s journey in this book is a hard one and at time super emotional and the story made me cry but then in the next chapter also made me smile and laugh. By the end of the book I was defiantly left with a super O face of shock(😮)and immediately needed more.
All those markers I have for a great book/story/world were awesomely checked off with Prey!

Intriguing plot✔️
Relatable Characters(even down to the side characters)✔️
Humor✔️
emotion so real I needed a chapter break✔️
Steamy sexy times✔️✔️✔️✔️
Thirst for more✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️

I’m am HERE for the conclusion of this amazing world in the final book!!

The Rouge King By Abigail Owen(Review Post)

Published July 30, 2019 by bookbesties

A modern-day Game of Thrones meets JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series from paranormal author Abigail Owen.

Kasia Amon is a master at hiding. Who—and what—she is makes her a mark for the entire supernatural world. Especially dragon shifters. To them, she’s treasure to be taken and claimed. A golden ticket to their highest throne. Problem is, she can’t stop bursting into flames, and there’s a sexy dragon shifter in town hunting for her.

As a rogue dragon, Brand Astarot has spent his life in the dark, shunned by his own kind, concealing his true identity. Only his dangerous reputation ensures his survival. Delivering a phoenix to the feared Blood King will bring him one step closer to the revenge he’s waited centuries to take. No way is he letting the feisty beauty get away.

But when Kasia sparks a white-hot need in him that’s impossible to ignore, Brand begins to form a new plan: claim her for himself…and take back his birthright.

This was my first time ever venturing into the world of dragons, but the blurp seemed interesting and this is a new to me author, so I gave it a shot.

Kasia is a rarity in a world full of dragon, and wolf shifter’s as well as Vampires. on the run since her mother died protecting her and her sister’s from what they know as ruthless dragon’s who want nothing more than to use them for their own advances.

When Kasia can’t control her fire, which also allows her to see visions, she seeks help and winds up at a clinic where someone suspects what she is and rats her out.

Brand has been a rouge dragon shifter all his life, ever since his parents were killed and wants nothing more than to be able to avenge his families death. He is known as ruthless and mean and will do anything to further is goal. When he is dispatched to retrieve Kasia for a king he hopes to align with to help him with his revenge, he finds he is the only one who can control Kasia’s fire when her visions start. Brand’s sole mission is to bring Kasia to the king and keep her alive and out of the clutches of other shifters who would want to do her harm all the while not trying to fall to his desires that he has for the phoenix.

Kasia feel herself being drawn to Brand but know she should keep him at arms length, despite her ever growing feelings she has for him. When they fund themselves literally running for their lives from wolves, vampires and dragons the tensions between them come to a head, but now he has to hand her over to dragon king.

I found this story intriguing and I hate love triangles so I was a little concerned that it would be when Brand took Kasia to the Blue King but it’s done in such a way that it clearly isn’t a love triangle. I did find that the story was a bit longer than I felt (At the time) and I also thought the ending could have been shorter. Now looking back i get why the author put everything into the book(to build the world and relationship between the character) but I still felt the ending (which was a fight scene) was drawn way out.

For that I gave this 4 1/2 stars because the story was great and I definitely want to go back and read her other sires, also in this world.
