Hunting for a Highlander by Lynsay Sands(Review Post)

Four Buchanan brothers have found their brides…only three more to go in this scintillating romance from New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands…

Lady Dwyn Innes feels utterly out of place among the eligible women who’ve descended on Buchanan Keep, vying for the attention of the last unmarried brothers. She isn’t long-legged and slender like her sisters, or flirtatious and wily like other lasses. Since her betrothed died, Dwyn has resigned herself to becoming an old maid. Yet a chance encounter with a stranger in the orchard awakens her to a new world of sensation and possibility…

After weeks away, Geordie Buchanan returns to find his home swarming with potential brides, thanks to his loving but interfering family. But one lass in particular draws his attention from the moment he spies her climbing a tree. Lady Dwyn is not nearly as plain as she thinks. Her lush figure and eager kisses delight him, as does her honesty. But the real test lies ahead: eliminating a hidden enemy, so that he and Dwyn can seal their Highland passion with a vow.

As you all know I have really enjoyed this series, but this book is a total run read! I. COULD. NOT. PUT. IT. DOWN. I was able to relate to the leading female character in this book on a level that I have never been able to relate to any character before. From climbing a tree to escape the torment of bullies, to her body image insecurities this character made me feel like I was looking in the mirror throughout the entire book. And I feel like she will be that character for a lot of other women. The leading male character in this book is everything a true hero should be: he is caring, compassionate, loyal, a fierce warrior, and not to mention good looking. He truly melted my heart when he climbed the tree and actually listened to our leading lady instead of writing her off when she refused his aid. I adore these characters so much!

Lady Dwyn Innes is not above climbing a tree to steal a moment of peace away from her overbearing sisters, the other husband hunting ladies turned bullies, and the anxiety of being so far from home. It is in that tree where she found sanctuary and a very unlikely friend. Had she known that the kind warrior who offered to help her out of the tree and became her first kiss is actually one of the reasons she is so far from home, she may not have left him in the orchard to read quietly in her room. But it would seem that something is determined to push them together all the while someone is trying to keep them apart by causing her harm. Will she lose her heart to her new friend or will she lose her life an unknown enemy?

When Geordie Buchanan returned home to find a keep full of strangers the last thing he expected was to be the focus of a hoard husband hunting ladies and their families. The last thing he wanted was to get married. He had wild oats left to sew and drinking to do. A wife would put an end to that before it even started. Or at least that’s how he felt when he first arrived home, before he met and kissed the very intriguing and very busty lady who climbed the tree he was sleeping under. As he gets to know her more and more his desire for her grows. Will he choose her and marriage or will he let her go and lose her forever?

This book had me hooked from page one. I absolutely loved it!

The Prince of Broadway by Joanna Shupe(Review Post)

Published December 30, 2019 by bookbesties

In the second novel in Joanna Shupe’s the Uptown Girl series, a ruthless casino owner bent on revenge finds his plans upended by a beautiful women who proves to be more determined than he is–and too irresistible to deny.

Powerful casino owner.

Ruthless mastermind.

Destroyer of men.

He lives in the shadows…

As the owner of the city’s most exclusive casino, Clayton Madden holds the fortunes of prominent families in the palms of his hands every night. There is one particular family he burns to ruin, however, one that has escaped his grasp…until now.

She is society’s darling…

Florence Greene is no one’s fool. She knows Clayton Madden is using her to ruin her prestigious family…and she’s using him right back. She plans to learn all she can from the mysterious casino owner—then open a casino of her own just for women.

With revenge on his mind, Clay agrees to mentor Florence. However, she soon proves more adept—and more alluring—than Clay bargained for. When his plans are threatened, Clay must decide if he is willing to gamble his empire on love.

OUT NOW!

Ok fellow Greene Family fanatics, Florence’s story is here, and it’s pretty great!

In the first book of the series we met the Greene sisters: Mamie, Florence, and Justine. That book is all about Mamie and how her drive, and dedication to help the downtrodden women of the city lead her to find her very own true love. I am starting to think determination is an inherited trait for these sisters because Florence too has it in spades. At first glance she is clever, cunning, charming, and beautiful with a seemingly “devil may care” attitude. But once you get to know her you will see that she is all that and so much more. So far, she is my favorite of the sisters, yet I’m going to hold out on final judgement until we get to experience Justine’s story.

Florence Greene is the middle child of Duncan Green – one of few men at the top of the New York food chain. Her independence and disregard for society and its rules is sure to be her ruin. Or so her father says. Little does he know it, but Florence has a plan that will secure her future independence and leave her at no mans mercy. To make this plan a reality she will stop at nothing to learn the skills needed to open and run a successful gaming hall for women. To get the training she needs she seeks out the owner of New York’s most exclusive casino as her private tutor. Will she acquire the skills she needs to secure the future of her dreams, or will attraction to her mentor get in the way?

Clayton Madden has a reputation as being cold and unfeeling. As the owner of the Bronze House this well-earned reputation helps dissuade his guests from cheating, stealing, or breaking any of the establishment’s rules. Well it works on most of his guests, all of them except her. The beautiful middle daughter of the man he has spent the better part of 20 years plotting revenge against just so happens to keep sneaking into his club and winning. What could be her purpose, surely, she knows gambling is illegal and that women aren’t allowed in the Bronze Horse. What reason could she possibly have to keep coming back? And will her reasons thwart his plans to ruin her father?

I love this family and I completely enjoyed this book! I can’t wait to get to know Justine and see where her story leads us.

THE BEAST OF BESWICK by #AMALIEHOWARD

Beauty and the Beast meets Taming of the Shrew in this laugh-out-loud and heartfelt #RegencyRomance.

Lord Nathaniel Harte, the disagreeable Duke of Beswick, spends his days smashing porcelain, antagonizing his servants, and snarling at anyone who gets too close. With a ruined face like his, it’s hard to like much about the world. Especially smart-mouthed harpies—with lips better suited to kissing than speaking—who brave his castle with indecent proposals.

But Lady Astrid Everleigh will stop at nothing to see her younger sister safe from a notorious scoundrel, even if it means offering herself up on a silver platter to the forbidding Beast of Beswick himself. And by offer, she means what no highborn lady of sound and sensible mind would ever dream of—a tender of marriage with her as his bride.

As you all know I became a big fan of this author after meeting her at Shameless BookCon 2018. Since that initial meeting I have greedily searched for and read every historical romance book with her name on it. With that being said, THIS IS MY FAVORITE AMALIE HOWARD BOOK (so far at least)!!!!! From start to finish I was completely hooked. I started this book after chatting with the author at this year’s Shameless BookCon and experiencing how excited she was about it and why. The story is a mix of Taming of the Shrew and Beauty and the Beast. This leading lady or “Beauty” as you will, is so sassy and self-aware. Her “take no sh!+” attitude and determination to save her sister from her vengeful ex-fiancé, makes her one of my favorite heroines for 2019!

After having her reputation ruined and the death of their parents, Lady Astrid Everleigh and her younger sister, Isobel find themselves in the country, secluded from society, and at the mercy of their greedy Uncle Reginald and Aunt Mildred. But Astrid has a plan! In one year she will be of age to inherit the remainder of her inheritance and give her sister the opportunity to have the proper coming out she deserves. When Astrid’s scorned ex-fiancé, Edmund Cain, Earl of Beaumont, uses her Uncle’s greed as a means to have his ultimate revenge. Astrid is forced to find a creative way to thwart the plans of a monster by seeking the assistance of a “beast”.

Having been severely scarred on both his face and his disposition, Lord Thane Harte, the seventh Duke of Beswick, chooses to live a very secluded and solitary life on his country estate. Aside from his staff, his favorite aunt, and a select few “friends” he does a very good job avoiding other people. That is until a smart mouthed, bluestocking, spinster barges her way into his home and issues him a most unconventional “business” proposition. Will he leave his life of seclusion behind and take her up on her offer or will he slam the door in her face?

Obviously I loved this book! And as always I am excited to see what all of you think of it as well.

Diamond in the Rouge by Wendy LaCapra(Review Post)

Published November 26, 2019 by bookbesties

Diamond in the Rogue will captivate you! It is sensual, lush, beautifully romantic, and I recommend it! -Stacy Reid, Author of the House of Calydon Series

In an act of revenge, Lord Rayne kissed Lady Julia and was sent packing to America. But now he’s back to settle his affairs and give away his sister in marriage, until he meets up with the alluring yet innocent Lady Julia again. He doesn’t regret their first kiss, but he was never good enough for her.

Lady Julia had two years to forget the moody and mercurial Earl of Rayne. But one look, and she knows they’re meant to be together. Be damned with his and her brother’s objections, she’ll just jump on the back of Rayne’s departing carriage and compromise them both thoroughly.

Only, Julia never expected her forbidding Lord to be so good at resisting temptation…

OUT NOW!!!!

I was so very excited to read this book for a couple of reasons; first- the author herself asked me to read and review this book (yes I totally fan girled over that), second- I really enjoyed the previous book in the series and couldn’t wait to see what the author had instore for this next book, and third- once I discovered this was Rayne and Julia’s story I was beyond stoked. After meeting these two characters in the last book and the hints about what broke up a long time group of best friends and forced Clarissa’s brother Rayne to flee to America I was praying it would be a good as the last. Let me tell you all this book was better than I ever imagined! I couldn’t put it down. This book has all the things I adore: A strong and sassy leading lady, a dark and brooding hero, and some seriously steamy love scenes (please remember this is a historical romance and while most love scenes can be pretty vanilla these most definitely were not). I can honestly say this is one of my favorite books for 2019!!! I can only hope we get to see how Farring’s story plays out in the next book.

Graham Laithe, Earl of Rayne has spent the last 2 years in America working very hard to forget the biggest mistake of his life. When he is forced to return to England for his sister’s wedding and to settle his affairs, the last thing he wants is to face his once bet friends or see the one woman he can never have and the cause of all his troubles. Will he be able to successfully part ways with his sister and his life in England as he plans or will he find himself with a reason to stay?

Lady Julia Stanley has a personal rule of never making the same mistake twice. Just as she is prepared to give up on finding love of her own, she is challenged by a dear friend to break that rule. Faced with the prospect saving the only man she loves from his own self-destruction, she forms a risky plan involving disguise, kidnapping, and possibly pirates to take her own destiny in hand and fight for the love she thought was lost. Will she succeed or will all her efforts leave them both heartbroken all over again?

This seriously is one of my favorite books of 2019 and I can’t wait to see how all of you like it.

I give this book a: star_png1592

My Fake Rake by Eva Leigh(Review Post)

Published November 26, 2019 by bookbesties

51JQAiwY94L

n the first book in Eva Leigh’s new Union of the Rakes series, a bluestocking enlists a faux suitor to help her land an ideal husband only to be blindsided by real desire…

Lady Grace Wyatt is content as a wallflower, focusing on scientific pursuits rather than the complications of society matches. But when a handsome, celebrated naturalist returns from abroad, Grace wishes, for once, to be noticed. Her solution: to “build” the perfect man, who will court her publicly and help her catch his eye. Grace’s colleague, anthropologist Sebastian Holloway, is just the blank slate she requires.

To further his own research on English society, Sebastian agrees to let Grace transform him from a bespectacled, bookish academic into a dashing—albeit fake—rake. Between secret lessons on how to be a rogue and exaggerated public flirtations, Grace’s feelings for Sebastian grow from friendship into undeniable, inconvenient, real attraction. If only she hadn’t asked him to help her marry someone else…

Sebastian is in love with brilliant, beautiful Grace, but their bargain is complete, and she desires another. Yet when he’s faced with losing her forever, Sebastian will do whatever it takes to tell her the truth, even if it means risking his own future—and his heart.

OUT NOW

This book owns my heart!!!!!

Not only does this follow a friends turned lovers trope but THIS IS A STORY WERE 2 NERDS FIND LOVE!!!! The female lead in this book is intelligent, independent, and compassionate, everything I look for in a heroine. I loved watching her nurture the leading gentleman as he grows into his full potential. The fact that the author wasn’t afraid to write a hero for this book who is not a typical Historical Romance leading man makes me eager to read more books by her. Getting a candid view of the Seb’s struggles with selective mutism and how he overcomes the obstacles it presents was very refreshing and endeared him to my heart. This is one of those books that I immediately grin when I hear the title or think of the characters. I love this book so much.

Sebastian “Seb” Holloway is the impoverish son of a miner who prefers science and observing societies over interacting with and being a part of them. So much so that unless someone is a member in his very small circle of friends they could be lead to believe him to be brainless and odd. But those closest to him know he is loyal, intelligent, and devoted to his study of anthropology, if only he could just get over his in-ability to speak to strangers. He would do anything for his friends especially, Grace, including sacrifice his heart by pretending to be a rake and court her so she can gain the notice of the man of her dreams.

Lady Grace Wyatt spends more of her time in the Benezra Library than attending society functions. If she had her way she would stop attending society functions all together and spend her time in the field studying her beloved reptiles. But being a woman born of the ton there are certain expectations she must uphold, like getting married. There is only one man she could ever see herself happily marry, Mason Fredericks. Too bad he sees her as merely a scientific colleague and not a woman. That is until she convinces her dearest friend Sebastian to transform himself into a rake and “court” her with the intent to make Mason take notice of her. Will their crazy plan succeed or will it be her eyes that are opened to another’s potential?

I truly loved this book! I hope you do too. NERD LOVE WINS!!!!

Someone to Remember (The Westcott Series Book 7) by Mary Balogh

Published November 5, 2019 by bookbesties

51rbxkfylXLt’s never too late to fall in love in this enchanting new story, a novella in the Westcott series from New York Times bestselling author Mary Balogh.

Matilda Westcott has spent her life tending to the needs of her mother, the Dowager Countess of Riverdale, never questioning the web of solitude she has spun herself. To Matilda, who considers herself an aging spinster daughter, marriage is laughable—love is a game for the young, after all. But her quiet, ordered life unravels when a dashing gentleman from her past reappears, threatening to charm his way into her heart yet again.

Charles Sawyer, Viscount Dirkson, does not expect to face Matilda Westcott thirty-six years after their failed romance. Moreover, he does not expect decades-old feelings to emerge at the very sight of her. When encountering Matilda at a dinner hosted by the Earl of Riverdale, he finds himself as fascinated by her as he was the first day they met, and wonders whether, after all these years, they have a chance at happiness together. Charles is determined to crack the hard exterior Matilda has built up for more than three decades, or he will risk losing her once again….

As you all know I love this series and this family so I was very excited to get my hands on this next book. This short and sweet, Westcott Series novella is our chance to get to know Matilda’s story. While I love that we get to know Matilda and Charles better I feel like this story should have been a full length novel of its own. I feel like by making this a novella the story was rushed and when it ended I was left wanting more. Don’t get me wrong just like the rest of the Westcott Series this book was well written and the characters have the depth I have come to expect from this author. It’s the story that I didn’t get enough of. I would have loved to have learned more about Matilda and Charles’ early romance considering the amount of devastation experienced by them both in its ending. This was a love that caused Matilda to never marry and devote her life to overprotecting her mother while leading Charles’ into living the life of a rogue, and siring a bastard before eventually marrying another. The few references to that time in their story suggest the kind of love that make me love reading romance. I think giving us that story as well as how their story ends would have given this book a true value as part of the series.

I did enjoy this book, I just wish there would have been more.

The Duke’s Stolen Bride by Sophie Jordan(Review Post)

Published October 22, 2019 by bookbesties

From USA Today bestselling author Sophie Jordan comes a scandalously sensual romance in her beloved Rogue Files series.

“Deliciously sexy!”—Sarah MacLean, New York Times bestselling author

An urgent dilemma…

To save her impoverished family, Marian Langley will become a mistress. But she will not be just any mistress. Marian intends to become so skilled, so coveted, that she can set her own terms, retaining control over her body and her fate. Only one problem remains: finding a tutor…

A scandalous solution…

Other men deprive themselves of pleasure for propriety’s sake. Nathaniel, Duke of Warrington, would much rather be depraved. He slakes his desires with professionals who ask nothing of him but his coin. Marian’s proposal—that he train her without taking her virtue—is an intriguing diversion, until their lessons in seduction spin out of control.

And a most unlikely duchess…

When Marian is blackmailed into engagement by a man she despises, Nate impulsively steals her away. Though he never intended to take a wife, he can’t tolerate the idea of Marian forfeiting her freedom to another. But can he bear to give her what she demands—a real marriage?

This book is a jaw dropper!!!

As always Sophie Jordan has written an incredibly fun story that I couldn’t put down.  I don’t think I have encountered a stronger heroine than this one.  The level of self- sacrifice this leading lady is willing to undertake to provide for her family is unparalleled.  I cannot even begin to explain how truly excited and relieved I was when she found her happy ending and was able to fully secure her family’s future.

Marian Langley is doing everything she can to support her three younger siblings.  Desperate times lead her to befriend a once “kept woman” to gain knowledge on becoming a courtesan.  But she has no desire to become just any ordinary courtesan she is determined to become a comfortably kept companion of a member of high society.  Too bad she has no experience in attracting such men.  Her new friend advises her to seek tutelage from “The Depraved Duke”, who they are certain is just the man for the job andconveniently lives near the town. Will their scandalous arrangement teach her the skills she needs to become a world class courtesan or will fate have other plans for them both?

Nathaniel, Duke of Warrington, tries to avoid interacting with people as much as possible unless he chooses to do so, meaning that most of the people he interacts with are either his staff or the paid courtesans who leave once their services are no longer needed.  That is until a series of events has him crossing paths with a sassy towns-woman with a smart mouth and fire in her eyes.  The last thing he ever wanted or expected was for her to show up at his door with a very scandalous proposition that could completely ruin them both if anyone found out.  Will he be able to remain aloof and fulfill their agreement or will he make a proposal of his own?

This book was an adventure and an inspiration that I am completely in love with.  I am excited for all of you to read it and tell me your thoughts.

Mistaken identities that turn enemies to lovers is the name of the game in this fantastic book!  Caroline Linden never fails to deliver a leading lady who has everything I love in a heroine as well as great story lines to make them shine.

Reading this story and watching these characters not only blossom into their authentic selves (away from the pressure of society expectations) and overcome their misconceived judgments of each other to fall in love was incredibly touching.

Georgiana Lucas’ shows her compassionate nature when she risks her own safety and rushed to the aid of a stranger who was being attacked on a remote country road.  She shows the depth of that compassion when she discovers the stranger is none other than the enemy of her dear friend and hostess but chooses to hide his identity and nurse him back to health.   Will the lie she told to conceal his true identity comes out and ruin her friendship or will it have her falling in love with a man she once despised?

When Lord Robert Churchill-Gray, Marquess of Westmorland, won the house of Sir Charles Winston in a drunken card game, he didn’t want or need the house and planned to promptly return it to its rightful owner.  That is until the sore loser blackens his name to anyone who will listen including Rob’s own mother.  Not wanting to keep the property but wanting to teach Winston a lesson in humility, Rob travels to the estate to return the deed to Winston’s family and tell them just what he has been up to in London.  On the way there he is attacked: robbed and beaten unconscious.  When he awakens in an unknown bed, with no memory of who or where he is, he is forced to rely on the hospitality of strangers and the care of the beautiful woman everyone claims is his fiancé.  Will he recover his memories and return to his prior bachelor life of drinking and scandal or will he choose to change his ways and win the heart of a woman he once overlooked?

Such a great story that I couldn’t put down.

How to Catch a Wicked Viscont(Review Post)

Published August 27, 2019 by bookbesties

51EGnC83KHL

A young lady’s tarnished reputation might cost her everything in this first book in the Disreputable Debutantes series.

Shy, bookish Sophie Brightwell is expected to make an advantageous match to improve her family’s fortunes. However, Sophie’s plans to make a spectacular debut go horribly awry when she and her three closest friends are expelled from a young ladies’ academy for unbecoming conduct. Since the ton will be sure to close their doors on these disgraced debutantes, they determine that unconventional means need to be employed in the husband-hunting market. Rakehells—the beau monde’s wickedest members—might be the only men willing to overlook a young lady’s besmirched reputation.

But how does one catch a rake?

Nate Hastings, the devil-may-care Viscount Malverne, is the older brother of Sophie’s best friend, fellow disgraced debutante Lady Charlotte. When a terribly foxed Nate accidentally compromises Sophie, Charlotte strikes a wicked bargain: in order to avoid a scandal and the parson’s mousetrap, Nate must help Sophie snare a husband. But as Nate fulfills his obligation and begins to instruct the lovely Sophie in the art of luring rakes, he soon finds himself battling his own fierce attraction to her.

OUT NOW!!

This is the first book in the Disreputable Debutantes series and the first book by this author that I have read.  If the rest of the series is as good as this book I will be a huge fan of both!!   Normally I fall in-love and gush over the characters, while these characters are adorable, it is their story I am over the moon for.  This is such a cute and fun romance!!! From page one to the last punctuation mark this author had me hooked.  The thing that sticks out about this story are the interactions between Sophie and Nate as well as their individual interactions with Charlie and how they all influence the direction of the growing romance.

Sophie Brightwell is certain she has ruined her chance of having a society marriage and saving her family from their financial strife, when late night mischief gets her and her 3 best friends expelled from school and labeled as the Disreputable Debutantes.   Her best friend Lady Charlotte “Charlie” Hastings offers her an opportunity to rejoin society, and try to win over the only men who would be willing to over-look their tarnished reputations.   The only problem with their plan is that Sophie only has eyes for one man, and while he is a rake he is off limits.

Nate Hastings, Viscount Malverncan’t afford to love ANYONE, so he lives a life of alcohol, gambling, and debauchery.  All that ends when his father forces him to move back home and threatens to take everything away if he doesn’t keep his name out of the gossip rags.  When a serious mistake from a night of excessive drinking causes him to make a deal with his sister, Charlie, he is forced to help her best friend find a husband.  Will he be able to keep Sophie at arms-length and help her find a husband or will he succumb to his own desires and claim her for his own?

This was a great start of the series and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the series holds.

Duchess in his Bed(Review Post)

Published August 20, 2019 by bookbesties

“Heath is known for her beautiful, deeply emotional romances.”—Washington Post

For a duchess with practical desires, falling in love is an inconceivable part of her plan…

As owner of the Elysium Club which caters to women’s fantasies, Aiden Trewlove is accustomed to introducing adventurous ladies to sin and vice. But he is uncharacteristically intrigued by the mysterious beauty who visits his club one night, yearning to indulge in the forbidden—with him. Drawn to her indomitable spirit, he breaks his rule of never becoming personally involved with his clientele and is determined to fully awaken her desires.

A recent widow, Selena Sheffield, Duchess of Lushing, has never known passion, not until Aiden’s slow, sensual seduction leads her on a journey of discovery and incredible pleasure. But her reasons for visiting the notorious club are not all that they seem.

As Selena’s motives become complicated by love, she finds herself with a most unexpected choice: forge ahead with a secret plan that could secure her future—or follow her heart which could prove ruinous.

Run read alert!!

I could not put this book down!!! Another wonderful tale of the Trewloves and how they find love.  As you all know from my reviews of the previous books in this series I LOVE THIS FAMILY!  I especially love Aiden and this book.  I really hoped Aiden would find a lover who would be perfect for him and Lorraine Heath surely did not disappoint with Selena.

Aiden Trewlove is one of the bastards who was raised by EttieTrewlove and made a name for himself -in spite of his low up-bringing- by owning and running a notorious “ladies only” club, where women from all walks of life can come and enjoy themselves by whatever means took their fancy. His success has been attributed to his ability to charm the patrons of the club all the while maintaining a strict policy to never get involved with any of them and to NEVER give his heart away.

Selena Sheffield, Duchess of Lushing, is newly widowed and facing the loss of the financial backing needed to keep her family afloat.  In an attempt to save it all she make a trip to the notorious Elysium Club with the plan to get pregnant and pass the baby off as the heir of her late husband.  Will the gentleman she chooses go along with her scheme and save her family or will they both have a change of heart?

Again I could not put this book down! It is my favorite of the series and I hope you all will love it as much as I do.
