All she wanted was a kiss…

What she got, was fiery passion…

Emily Howard knows she is destined to be a spinster. She has accepted this fate, but that doesn’t stop her from wanting to experience kissing. What she doesn’t expect, is for Griffin Crawford, the handsomest man in the world, to do the honors. Or for all her female relations to discover her in his embrace. Naturally, marriage is instantly mentioned, but since Emily knows this is not what Griffin wants, she tries to escape him, her family and the ensuing scandal.

When Emily flees the Camberly ball in the wake of their kiss, Griffin goes in pursuit. He will not allow his sister-in-law’s determined friend to risk her safety for any reason. And risk it she will if she means to return to her countryside home by herself. But the longer he remains in her company, the more he is tempted to kiss her again. If only he could risk falling in love and remain in England forever.

OUT NOW!!!

This is the first book that I have received the ARC straight from the author.  Add to it that the author was none other than Sophie Barnes who you all know I adore, so naturally I was crazy excited to read this.   To say that I enjoyed this book immensely is an understatement.  I count not put it down!  A strong willed woman who knows what she wants, even if that doesn’t include marriage is a woman after my own heart, and the character of our heroine has endeared her to my heart.

Emily Howard is ready to live the life a spinster who devotes her time to the children’s home she runs with her best friends, but only after experiencing her first kiss.  When that first kiss threatens scandal or marriage Emily decides to run awake from London society back to the children’s home in the county.  The last thing she was expecting was to be followed on her way to her sanctuary by the man who gave her that kiss.

Griffin Crawford is ready for the London season to be over so he can return to his bachelor life in Vienna.  That is until he gets caught kissing the most beautiful girl in the world.  Despite the risk of ruining her reputation, she refuses to allow him to do the honorable thing and ask for her hand in marriage, and flees London.  He convinces himself he is only following her to keep her safe from the dangers of traveling alone, or maybe is there another reason he is following her that he hasn’t figured out yet?

OUT NOW

This is my first time reading this author and while this is book two in a series I didn’t know it until I sat down to write this review. To me that speaks volumes about both the superior writing ability of the author as much as my enjoyment of the book, and please know I REALLY enjoyed this book. I love this book for its historical accuracy even as it shines a light on prejudices of the era. It is so refreshing to me when an author isn’t afraid to show the darker side or history. I love how the leading characters overcome their societal differences and find passion in one another.
Finlay Swinton, Viscount Firthwell is in line to inherit a prominent Earldom as long as his family’s darkest secret stays a secret. After a renewed acquaintance with a woman he shared a single unforgettable night of passion turns sour will his entire future be lost?
Charlotte Taylor has found a perfect job, and with her fond memories of a night of unbridled passion and freedom, she is ready to start her new life. All until that perfect new job causes her become reacquainted with the man she shared that night with. When her past catches up to her will she betray the man she loves to protect herself or will she sacrifice her life to protect his future?
This was a book I couldn’t put down and I can’t wait to get my hands on its predecessor.

Say No to the Duke(Review Post)

New York Times bestselling author Eloisa James returns with the fourth novel in her breathtaking Wildes of Lindow Castle series.

One little wager will determine their fate—a daring escape or falling into temptation with a rakish lord.

Lady Betsy Wilde’s first season was triumphant by any measure, and a duke has proposed—but before marriage, she longs for one last adventure.

No gentleman would agree to her scandalous plan—But Lord Jeremy Roden is no gentleman. He offers a wager. If she wins a billiards game, he’ll provide the breeches.

If he wins…she is his, for one wild night.

But what happens when Jeremy realizes that one night will never be enough?

Another wonderful book by Eloisa James!   The Wildes of Lindow Castle has been such a fun series to read thus far, so of course I was excited to get my hands of this next book.   This family is so fun and their romances are so fun to watch unfold I couldn’t wait to see how Betsy’s story would unfold.  I always love a story where one of the leading characters is not who they present to the world and how finding love in the right person can make them show their true colors.  That is exactly what happens in this book and I found it to be a very good read because of it.

Lady Boadicea “Betsy” Wilde has refused multiple proposals including the most recent proposal made by Viscount Greywick, sadly the proposal and the refusal has been witnessed by Lord Jeremy Roden – a military friend of one of her brothers- who makes it his mission to champion the match between the two and encourage the Viscount not to give up his pursuit of her hand in marriage.

Lord Jeremy Roden has no interest in getting married anytime soon.  But that doesn’t mean he can’t help his old school friend as he tries to woo Betsy and convince her to marry him, right? Too bad his efforts to help his friend change his views on marriage, love, and most of all Betsy.

I really enjoyed this book and hope you do too.  I cant wait to see where the next Wilde tale will take us.

Some Like it Scandalous(Review Post)

They are sworn enemies…

Theodore Prescott the Third, one of Manhattan’s Rogues of Millionaire Row, has really done it this time. The only way to survive his most recent, unspeakably outrageous scandal is marry someone respectable. Someone sensible. Someone like Daisy Swann. Of all the girls in Gilded Age Manhattan, it had to be her.

Pretending to be lovers…

Daisy Swann has plans and they do not involve a loveless marriage with anyone. But when a devastating family secret threatens to destroy her standing in society, suddenly a fake engagement with Theo is just the thing to make all her dreams come true.

And now it’s time to kiss and make up…

Daisy Swann aspires to sell cosmetics that she has created, but this brainy scientist needs a smooth talking charmer’s flair for words and eye for beauty to make it a success. Before long, Daisy and Theo are trading kisses. And secrets. And discovering that despite appearances, they might be the perfect couple after all.

Okay so I am just going to put it out there for the world to know….. THIS SERIES IS IN MY TOP 5 FAVORITE BOOK SERIES EVER.  Mind you that there are only two books in this series at this time but they are both AMAZING!!!!   I love all things historical fashion and when combined with a quick witted, determined heroine you get books that I just can’t say enough about!  Maya Rodale made me fall in love with these characters and this story from the prologue.

Daisy Swan has her own goals and dreams of creating face creams for the ladies and was looking forward to her long anticipated spinsterhood to make that dream come true.  Too bad her mother and the father of her arch nemesis have other plans for her.  Will their attempts to marry her off succeed or will her dreams of personal success become a reality?

Theodore “Theo” Prescott the third is the wealthy son of “one of Manhattan’s most celebrated millionaire tycoons” and Daisy Swan’s worst enemy.   In the wake of a serious scandal the last thing Theo expected his father to demand of him was marriage, especially marriage to Daisy Swan.  But being forced together with the one woman who sees through his charms may just be what this “Rogue of Millionaire Row” needs to find his place in the world.

I adore this book and LOVE LOVELOVE this series!

The Rouge of Fifth Avenue(Review Post)

Published May 28, 2019 by bookbesties

9780062906816_ce2e0

The first in Joanna Shupe’s sparkling new series, once again exploring the glamour and scandal of Glided Age New York.

Silver-tongued lawyer.

Keeper of secrets.

Breaker of hearts.

He can solve any problem…

In serving the wealthy power brokers of New York society, Frank Tripp has finally gained the respectability and security his own upbringing lacked. There’s no issue he cannot fix…except for one: the beautiful and reckless daughter of an important client who doesn’t seem to understand the word danger.

She’s not looking for a hero…

Excitement lay just below Forty-Second Street and Mamie Greene is determined to explore all of it—while playing a modern-day Robin Hood along the way. What she doesn’t need is her father’s lawyer dogging her every step and threatening her efforts to help struggling families in the tenements.

However, she doesn’t count on Frank’s persistence…or the sparks that fly between them. When fate upends all her plans, Mamie must decide if she’s willing to risk it all on a rogue…

This was another super fun read by Joanna Shupe!!!  If I wasn’t already a fan of her work I would be hooked after reading this one, for sure!  It has a sassy female lead that I absolutely adore and a charming man to appreciate her strength and strong will.  Watching these enemies turn to friends was so, so much fun and made this book hard to put down.

We met Prominent New York Attorney, Frank Tripp, briefly in Joanna Shupe’s The Four Hundred Series and in this book we get to really know him as he has tasked himself with protecting the eldest daughter of a very important client.  Little did he know that this task would have him chasing “the reckless female” from gaming club to gaming club at all hours and risking his career in the mean-time all to keep her safe and a smile on her face.

Marion “Mamie” Greene is the eldest daughter of the powerful Duncan Greene, almost fiancé of Chauncey Livingston, and advocate for the downtrodden women of the city.   When her advocacy efforts force her to seek the assistance of the one man in New York who she would rather never see again, she finds herself seeing both him and the world in a different light.

Their combined efforts to save one of Mamie’s “friends” causes Frank to risk exposing his deepest secrets and losing his career.   Will the end results be worth the risk?

I loved this book and think you will too!  Enjoy

Attracted to the Earl(Review Post)

Published May 28, 2019 by bookbesties

cover162580-medium

Unable to read or write, an earl discovers love in the last place he expects to find it—within the embrace of a brilliant woman—in this sexy, irresistible novel from USA Today bestselling author Bronwen Evans.

What’s an earl to do?
The Earl of Argyle has died suddenly, leaving his brother Guy Neville at a complete loss. The dull-witted second son, as his father used to call him, Guy is now responsible for the estate and his brother’s seat in the House of Lords. Shamed by an inability to read or write, his distress is multiplied by an inquiry from a dyed-in-the-wool bluestocking who wishes to use the Argyle library and study a rare plant on the estate. Guy’s first instinct is to decline her request—until he catches a glimpse of Miss Abigail Pinehurst.

How’s a girl to behave?
Abigail cares for only one thing: plants. She is unconcerned about how she looks, what she wears, or the impression she makes on men. An orphan who turned to books for solace in a miserly, cruel institution, she now makes her living illustrating the greenery she adores. Lord Argyle, in fact, with his uncanny memory and chiseled features, is the first man to capture her attention—a ridiculous distraction since he is so far above her station. But her unreasonable heart has a mind of its own.

Look for the enchanting Disgraced Lords series from Bronwen Evans:
A KISS OF LIES | A PROMISE OF MORE | A TOUCH OF PASSION | A WHISPER OF DESIRE | A TASTE OF SEDUCTION | A NIGHT OF FOREVER

And don’t miss her novels in the Imperfect Lords series:
ADDICTED TO THE DUKE | DRAWN TO THE MARQUESS | ATTRACTED TO THE EARL

Includes an excerpt from another Loveswept title.

This is the first book by Bronwen Evans that I have read and I am glad to say I look forward to reading more of her work.    I really enjoyed this book!  I love how both leading characters have their weaknesses and how they accept one another fully in spite of those weaknesses.  I love how both characters are given the chance to grow and find their own self value and their places in the world through the relationships they hold dear.

Abigail Pinehurst is the very talented artist who has been commissioned by Lady Calthorpe to paint the elusive and rare Ghost Orchid that can only be found in the forest of the Argyle Estate.  On her way to Argyle House, Patrick Neville uses her darkest secret to blackmail her into digging around and uncovering what he hopes will be evidence that his cousin, Guy Neville, the new Earl of Argyle is unfit to run the estate.

Guy Neville, Earl of Argyle never wanted his title for many reasons the biggest being a disability that nearly cost him his life, but now that it’shis he will do what he must to keep it out of the hands of his greedy cousin, Patrick Neville.   Will the unexpected and coincidental arrival of a beautiful artist prove to be a spy sent to find out his secrets or the woman of his dreams?

I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to find out what all of you think.

A Rake’s Revenge(Review Post)

Published May 28, 2019 by bookbesties

cover163923-medium

After being abandoned by her almost-betrothed, Caroline Nash vows to never again get involved with a man. Especially not the middle-aged earl her father has chosen for her. The man is a pompous ass and one of Prinny’s set who only wants her for her dowry. To complicate matters, a kiss from the Midnight Marauder unleashes an unbelievable passion that Caroline can’t seem to forget.

Stephan, the Marquis of Kendrick, poses as the robbing marauder to avenge his low-born mother. But he starts questioning his plans when one of his “missions” crosses paths with Caroline and leads to the kiss of a lifetime. Stephan senses that this proper miss is more fiery than he expected and he wants more.

To be properly introduced to the woman of his dreams, he attends the Prince Regent’s house party. He finds her, begging a friend to pretend to court her – to fend off the man her father has chosen. Stephan couldn’t wish for a better opportunity – he’ll happily court her, but he doesn’t want to pretend. Their connection is sizzling, but can this charade become something real once Stephan’s secrets are revealed?

Each book in the Rake Trilogy series is STANDALONE:
* A Rake’s Redemption (FREE AT TIME OF POSTING)
* A Rake’s Revenge

This is another new author to me and I am excited to see what/ who else she has in store for us!  This book has everything fun; an independent leading lady, pirates, a masked bandit who steals as many kisses as riches, an estranged Marquis, an unwanted betrothal, and a crazy scheme to get out of it. This book was a total run read and I loved every minute of it from page 1 to the last period.  I really hope to read many more stories from this author in the near future.

Caroline Nash is completely resigned to living life “on the shelf” especially after being jilted by her ex- betrothed, that is until her father calls in a favor of the Prince Regent and she finds herself almost betrothed to the Earl of Tisdale a man much her senior.  In a desperate attempt to thwart her betrothed, her father and her Prince’s plans for her she finds herself begging a favor from a friend of a friend.  Will the favor work to her benefit or will she lose everything in her marriage to the dastardly Earl of Tisdale?

Stephan Stoddard, Marquis of Kendrick, is quite content with his life as a pirate and the Midnight Marauder, taking from the snobs of the ton and giving to the poor.  So what’s to stop him from having a little fun with the debutants of London, by stealing their kisses, while he’s at it? An eventful run in and the attempt to save Caroline Nash from a doomed marriage might just change his life as he knows it.

Rebel: Women Who Dare(Review Post)

Published May 28, 2019 by bookbesties

9780062861689_bff85

The first novel in USA Today bestselling author Beverly Jenkins’ compelling new series follows a Northern woman south in the chaotic aftermath of the Civil War.

Valinda Lacey’s mission in the steamy heart of New Orleans is to help the newly emancipated community survive and flourish. But soon she discovers that here, freedom can also mean danger. When thugs destroy the school she has set up and then target her, Valinda runs for her life—and straight into the arms of Captain Drake LeVeq.

As an architect from an old New Orleans family, Drake has a deeply personal interest in rebuilding the city. Raised by strong women, he recognizes Valinda’s determination. And he can’t stop admiring—or wanting—her. But when Valinda’s father demands she return home to marry a man she doesn’t love, her daring rebellion draws Drake into an irresistible intrigue.

As you all know I really enjoy when an author does their research and isn’t afraid to maintain historical accuracy no matter how harsh it might be.  I know that I can count on Beverly Jenkins to do just that in her books.  This book was a joy to read!  New Orleans and the Mississippi River Basin has a special place I my heart so that made this story even more endearing for me.  I loved reading about this strong, independent, EDUCATED, black woman and getting a glimpse into her world.

Valinda Lacy is a Northern born, black, teacher who has come to New Orleans to teach former slaves to read and write.  While in New Orleans her strong will and determination for success are put to the test by white supremacists, rogue soldiers, and the stubborn employers of her students.  But rather than give up in the face of adversity she finds help from a handsome stranger and his family.

Drake LeVaq is a New Orleans native, former captain with the Louisiana Native Guard, and a volunteer for the city’s Freedmen’s Bureau.  He lives a fairly quiet life surrounded by his family.  It is a chance meeting where he saves a beautiful, young teacher from a couple of rogue soldiers that makes his whole world change.

This book was both interesting and sweet with equal parts history and romance to make it a truly fulfilling read.

Lady Clarissa has decided to live life on her terms. After the end of a ten-year betrothal, she wants nothing to do with marriage or the men of the ton. Least of all her friend’s brother, the very charming Lord Markham, or Hearts, as many ladies call the oh-so-handsome earl.

Markham pursues relationships with no ties that bind. Acting the rake leaves everyone satisfied…until he overhears a wager that could lead to Clarissa’s ruin. He can’t help but step in and claim she’s his intended bride.

Clarissa is appalled. She did not need to be saved. Reluctantly, she agrees to the fake courtship, if only to experience what the rakish Markham can offer. But when lust becomes love, Clarissa must make up her own terms and bet it all on Hearts.

Each book in the Lords of Chance series is STANDALONE:
* Scandal in Spades
* Heart’s Desire

OH MY GOOD BOOK!!!!

This is the first book I have read by Wendy LaCapra and let me just put it out there in the bookiverse that after this one book I am a fan!!!  This is also the first Historical Romance book I have read where our leading lady is a total alpha in the bedroom.  It was so exciting!!!!  I love that this author was not afraid to allow her heroine to be sexually demanding, that is something you almost NEVER see in the H.R. genre.  I will be buying this book and adding it to my book shelf so I can read it over and over again.

Percival Stanley, the fifth Earl of Markham also known by the ton as “Hearts” finds himself breaking all of his self-imposed rules in an attempt to save the reputation and honor of a woman.  Too bad it’s the only woman in the ton who clearly dislikes him and would rather risk ruination than go along with his scheme.  Or is she?

Just when Lady Clarissa Laithe thinks she has won her freedom by offending a notorious bully and gossip thusly choosing to become a spinster, the one man she finds “intolerable” takes it all awake in a misguided attempt to rescue her from humiliation and scandal.   It’s only after conceding to go along with his scheme that she see maybe he isn’t as intolerable as she thought.

I enjoyed this book so much and cant wait to hear what all of you think about it.

Anything But a Duke(Review Post)

Published May 1, 2019 by bookbesties

9780062853974_23228

The second scintillating novel in Christy Carlyle’s The Duke’s Den series.

“I absolutely adore Christy Carlyle!”–Lorraine Heath, New York Times bestselling author

Self-made man Aidan Iverson has seen more closed doors in his thirty years than he’s ever cared to count. As a member of the elite Duke’s Den, he has all the money he could possibly need but the one thing he can’t purchase is true power. If roguish Aidan can’t buy his way into society’s hallowed halls, he’ll resort to a more extreme measure: marriage.

Brought up to be a proper lady, the only thing Diana Ashby desires is to be left alone to the creation of her own devices. But when her dreams are crushed, she must find another way to secure the future of her invention. Knowing his desire to enter her world, Diana strikes a deal to arrange his marriage to the perfect lady—as long as that lady isn’t her. She doesn’t need any distractions from her work, particularly of the sinfully handsome variety.

As Diana and Aidan set out to find him an aristocratic match, neither are prepared for the passion that ignites between them or the love they can’t ignore.

In the Duke’s Den, can happiness ever be a winning prospect?

OUT NOW!!!

Book two in the Duke’s Den series was just as amazing as book one.  To say I loved it is an understatement.  As much as I love strong, pioneering women I love the men who are secure in their masculinity enough to love and support those women.  This book has both!

Diana Ashby is a second generation inventor who is determined to get funding for her latest invention, doing something her father was never able to achieve.  Who knew a chance meeting and an impulsive kiss with an injured stranger in the Belgravia mews would come back to haunt her in her pursuit of her dreams.

Aiden Iverson has a reputation for making sound investments in large scale industrial enterprise and inventions.  So much so that he and his business partners have taken to meeting with inventors in their gentleman’s gaming club.  Never did he think he would run across the woman who is never far from his thoughts after she saved his life when he was attacked in Belgravia again.  Much less did he expect her to be one of the inventors he was to interview and potentially invest his money with.

I love how even though this is a historical romance novel, the socially awkward and brainy woman gets a happy ending.  And how the orphan boy who fought to make a name for himself finds his place in the world as a man in love.  This is another great success of a story for Christy Carlyle and I can’t wait to see what she writes next.
