I was really excited to read this book, because it seemed mysterious and the tagline got me hooked:

“How far would you go to fit in?”

I should have known that Teresa always seems to write a twist or have something other going on in the story besides the love developing with two characters and this one was NO different!  White Trash Beautiful gutted me and Safe Word was SO not what I expected. Delilah (lie) was a girl who was dealt the sort end of the stick for most of her life, but after tragedy she up and moves to FL, (Orlando my hometown) and starts over, pretending to be someone she is not, basically living a Lie(nice play on words). I had so many mixed emotions about this book, I Loved the fact that I did empathize with Lie, crying when she cried and laughing when she laughed. I also loved the witty banter between her and Abel, it was great to try to figure him out right along with Delilah. Able is just the right amount of sexy and mysterious and dangerous.

“I’m only going to say this once, if you ever come near Delilah again, I’ll make beating you took over **** look like a fucking birthday party.”

I was confused on some parts that were either looked over or not mentioned or just plan forgotten and it was starting to get to me until, UNTIL the end. I will just tell you this now the ending has the biggest shocker that I have seen in a while in this book. I would love to tell you what it reminds me of but then I’m afraid that would be giving it away. I was neither prepared for nor was I willing to accept it when I found out.  My first initial reaction was

Then it was

Then it was

It is the ending that got me to give this book the 4 stars that I did, because as I was near the ending I was very certain it was going to be a second book, because no way call all this be wrapped up nice and neat in the few chapters that I have left, but Teresa did such an amazing job at weaving this story so that you NEVER SEE IT COMING and when you go back and read it(and you will) you will see the little clues and hints that were missed or that this reader mistook for inconsistencies.  Well done Teresa, well done.

About the Author

Teresa Mummert (1)

“I was a Russian spy at the ripe age of thirteen, given my uncanny ability to tell if someone was lying ( I also read fortunes on the weekends). By sixteen I had become too much of a handful for the Lethal Intelligence Ensemble (L.I.E.). I was quickly exiled to the south of France where I worked with wayward elephants in the Circus of Roaming Animals and People (C.R.A.P.). I was able to make ends meet by selling my organs on the black market for pocket change and beer money. At the age of twenty-three I decided to expand my horizons and become a blackjack dealer in Ireland. I loved the family atmosphere at Barney’s Underground Liquor Lounge (B.U.L.L.). People couldn’t resist the allure of Liquor up front and poker in the rear. Eventually I became tired of the rear and headed off to the United States to try my hand at tall tales. That is what brings us here today. If you have a moment I’d like to tell you a story.

Elect(Eagle Elite Series #2) by Rachel Van Dyken

Published December 15, 2013 by bookbesties

Elect (Eagle Elite, #2)

Greed, Power, Money and Love. Add all of that together and what do you get? Elect

There was this

And maybe some of this

And definitely  a lot of this

I waited 7 long grueling days for this book and stalked Rachel Van Dyken’s Facebook page for every piece of extra scenes and sneak peeks until I drove myself crazy with want for this book! And can I just say that it did not disappoint. It’s really hard for me not write a spoil-free review because I want to tell you all what parts absolutely slayed me and what parts made me so mad, I contemplated throwing my kindle out a window(I have a 2 year warranty I would have been good) because I was so mad at the direction it was going. But I refrained.  The book picks up right where Elite left off, and if I thought I was blown away by that one, I was not prepared for Elect! Elite, to me was kind of like a Mafia for beginners, easing you into the world of the youngest and biggest Mafia boss and everything that entails. Elect put’s you right in the heart of it all; with more action and/ or gross factors as it is solely told from the men of the series POV’s.

Ahh, the men.

While reading this book I hate to say it but my loyalties shifted just a scotch.  The character’s I loved in the first book, I had a slight aversion to in this one and the same goes with the ones I hated, I found myself sympathizing with them.  Just when you think you know what’s going to happen, BOOM RVD throws the monkey of all monkey wrenches into it and you are left scratching your head going, ‘What just happened?’

She wove such a great and intricate plot twist that I seriously contemplated if Rachel herself didn’t have ties to the Mafia, because things like that could only really happen in the Mafia. I loved  how all the characters seemed so real to me, there was not one that I could not relate to and THAT is a feet for author’s, because you really relate to one, maybe two character’s in a series not all.  I think that Is a bonus for writing in dual POV’s, you get a chance to empathize and connect with the other person, or people in this matter.  This series is going to be my favorite series to look forward to in this coming year, Rachel Van Dyken is an amazing author that has made it to my top ten authors in such a short time.

Nixon Abandonato made his choice. And now he has to pay the price. Tracey is the love of his life, but being with him has made her a target of his family’s enemies. The only way to keep Trace alive is convince the world she means nothing to him.

Trace Rooks has fallen irrevocably in love with the son of her family’s sworn rival, and she knows in her bones nothing can tear them apart. Until Nix suddenly pushes her away and into the arms of his best friend… But Trace isn’t ready to give up on a future with Nix–and if he won’t fight for them, she will.

In the end, a sacrifice must be made. A life for a life. For what better way to cover a multitude of sins than with the blood of a sinner . . .

Excerpt:

I woke up with a killer hangover. My fault. Grumbling, I took a shower and went downstairs to get some breakfast before I went over to the Space to see if Phoenix would change his tune.

“Hey.” Trace was sitting at the table eating some toast.

“Hey.” I waved. Idiot. She was sitting right in front of me.

Her eyes didn’t leave mine. I was frozen in place and could literally hear every beat of my heart in the silence.

“You’re wrong, you know.” She stood and walked toward me. “About a lot of things—everything, actually. And you’re an ass.”

“I—”

“I’m talking, you’re listening.” She smirked and grabbed the front of my shirt and pushed me toward the pantry. She slammed me against the door, pretty forcefully, I might add, and then opened it and shoved me in. I mean, I could fight her but I was too damn turned on and curious to do anything except stare at her.

“I. Want. You.” She took off her shirt. What the hell? “Only you.” Her jeans were next.

The pantry immediately became my number one favorite spot in the house.

Facing me in nothing but her scandalous white lacy underwear, she whispered in my ear. “This. What you see? What’s in front of you, it’s not just about me wanting you. I want all of you. I want to be vulnerable with you, exposed. But you have to let me…maybe the reason I don’t want to open up that part of myself to Chase is because he isn’t you, Nixon. He doesn’t have this.” She placed my hand on her bare skin right above her breast. Shit, I was slowly dying inside. Did she even realize what the hell she was doing to me?

“He doesn’t have our history, our past, our drama. I love him, you’re right. I love him so damn much that I can’t imagine life without him. But he and I—we aren’t this. So tell me, Nixon. Tell me if you want me to forget. I’ll forget what we have, if that’s really what you want. If you want me to jump into his arms without looking back, I will. But know I’ll hate you forever for giving me up.”

“I’m not,” I interrupted her. “You can’t give up something you never had.”

She slapped me hard across the face. “You promised, Nixon. You promised me.”

I kissed her hard on the mouth, clenching her wrists in my hands as I pinned her against the door. “You’re right,” I growled and pulled away. “And I’m sorry for hurting us, for hurting you, but Trace…next time you trap me in a closet, in nothing but your underwear. I will take advantage of you. I’ll screw you until you forget your own name. Don’t play with fire, and don’t mess with me. I’m still terrible for you; he’s better, and I stand by what I did. Now move out of the way before I truly lose control and steal your virginity next to the damn Cheerios.”

She crossed her arms over her chest and glared as I sidestepped her and walked out of the pantry and directly into Tex.

“Whoa!” Tex looked at my face and then lower. His smile widened. “Taking care of business in the pantry or Mrs. Butterworth just make you horny?”

“Shut up.”

“It’s cool! She’s naked, I get it!” Tex called after me, while I raced back up the stairs, grabbed my phone and keys, and then ran out of the house. Away from Trace, away from everything.

Gabriel's Redemption (Gabriel's Inferno, #3)
The Professors Back!!!

I had mixed feeling about this book when I heard there was another on coming out, I kind of thought that all was done with the second and therefore another story would be reaching, but I was sorely mistaken. I didn’t really like the second book, Gabriel’s Rapture, partly because It didn’t have enough of the professor and Julianne to my liking, but that’s just me, and, it just felt lacking to me in some way. Gabriel’s Rapture did not disappoint me. The professor is back! I loved all the interaction with him and Julia as a married couple and all the ups and down they go through. The hot-headed professor that was very prominent in the first book makes a few appearances and I was very surprised at the turn of character in Julia. She went from this shy and timid thing to someone who spoke her mind and was very adamant about putting herself first in certain situations. What can be said for the passion in the book?, it was prominent! The professor is just as passionate about his love for his wife as he is about his teaching.

As with the books before this, the way it is written bothered me simply because I had a  few confused moments when I couldn’t figure out whom was speaking to whom and who and said what, that would be my only complaint about the writing style, that as well as I am very used to having the story told in one or duel POV’s but this was kind of an outsider looking in fell. I found myself having a change of heart about certain characters than I had previously.  The one’s I hated I felt sorry for and the ones I felt sorry for I was over them. I thought this book ended the trilogy very well and as always I swore I was getting a lesson in Dante’s and an Italian lesion and a few others thrown in.

Author Bio:

I’m interested in the way literature can help us explore aspects of the human condition – particularly suffering, sex, love, faith, and redemption. My favourite stories are those in which a character takes a journey, either a physical journey to a new and exciting place, or a personal journey in which he or she learns something about himself/herself.

I’m also interested in how aesthetic elements such as art, architecture, and music can be used to tell a story or to illuminate the traits of a particular character. In my writing, I combine all of these elements with the themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the transformative power of goodness.

Elite (Eagel Elite) By Rachel Van Dyken

Published December 7, 2013 by bookbesties

Elite (Eagle Elite, #1)

I have been a fan of Rachel since reading Ruin, and since then I have read The Bet and have yet to get my feels together about that enough to do a review on it, but let’s just say

There are few authors who have the ability to have me start a book at 9 at night and read until 4 in the morning, in fact there are really one three. Three.

After reading Ruin and The Bet I then went on a kindle shopping spree and bought all the RVD books I could afford, which at the time a few were on sale so I got like six because I just KNEW she wouldn’t disappoint. I had no idea what Elite was about before I opened it and started reading, hadn’t even read the synopsis. I got thrown into this world full of mystery and danger just as the MC did.  In short, the Mafia, yes the Mafia. I had never read a book about the Mafia, hell I’m afraid that me saying it this much in my review will cause me to have a hit on my head now. The Mafia + Mystery + never-ending love=  the fan-freaking-tatic Elite.

I won’t tell you a summary, you can just read the cover or blurp for that, but I will tell you that I did not want to put this book down, even though I was aware that i had work in a few hours. I was drawn to the MC, Tracey right away, and knew there was more than meets the eye with her. I also was drawn to Nixon for a wholly different reason. He was the biggest ASSHOLE ever!

You feel this?” His hand moved up my arm and my shoulder and up, until his thumb grazed my trembling lips. “Memorize it now, because as of this moment, you can’t touch us. We are untouchable. If you as much as sneeze in our direction, if you as much as breathe the same air in my atmosphere, I will make your life a living hell.

And that’s not even the worse thing he did! The first half of the book I was so done with him, I was thinking that she got together with one of the other guys and he was kind of like the supporting actor. You love to hate him and maybe he will find love in a spin-off book and not be such a douche. But when Trace, the MC start setting her setting her sights on him it was apparent he was it. I didn’t like it thought all sorts of bad things would happen to him to make it not so, But then BOOM! Nixon starts to look like a cool glass of water after being trapped in the desert. He was just, Whoa!

I loved the mystery of the book; what was Nixon hiding, who was he really, and why the guns? I loved that when Tracey finally finds out, yes it has to do with the Mafia (another hit) that she doesn’t do what we all think she would. The story was very fresh and exciting and had just enough action and danger with just the right amount of kissing sparkled in.  If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter than you know I consider myself a somewhat of a Sherlock Holmes of books. I can pretty much guess the ending correctly half way through the book, but with this one, I got nothing. She stumped me!  Rachel likes to mix things up and she succeeded with this one. I am dying a slow death for the next book set to release on the 10th of Dec., Elect which will no doubt be just as great as the first one.

Don’t miss White Hot Kiss, book one in Jennifer L. Armentrout’s The Dark Elements series from Harlequin TEEN!

Excerpt

Moving lightning fast, Dez shifted and I was suddenly underneath him. His arms were on either side of my head, caging me in. Our bodies didn’t touch, but I felt him to the tips of my toes anyway.

The teasing grin disappeared when I dragged in a deep breath and my chest brushed his. Everything changed in an instant. The playful mood faded, replaced by primal heaviness. Our gazes collided and locked. Neither of us moved. His closeness sent a series of shivers skittering across my skin and made it hard to take slow, even breaths. My body tensed when his gaze dropped to my mouth.

He tilted his head to the side. “I… I honestly have no idea what we were talking about.”

                “Good. Neither do I.”

He shifted his weight onto one arm, bring him closer. “Have you enjoyed your trip so far?”

“Yes.” I felt as if I couldn’t get enough air into my lungs.

“Good.” He lowered his head. His breath was minty as it moved across my cheek and then my lips. “I’m glad.”

I wasn’t really following the conversation and I wasn’t sure that he was fully aware of what was coming out of his mouth. I searched my hazy brain for something to say and wet my lips.

The sound that came out of Dez’s chest rumbled through me. A stuttered heartbeat passed and then his lips were on mine. There was nothing slow about this kiss. It scorched my skin and caused my body to stretch tight like a bowstring. The kiss deepened, spinning my senses. I shuddered when his hand curved over my shoulder and drifted down to my waist, his long fingers spreading out under the hem of my shirt, grazing the bare skin of my stomach.

I gasped, floored by the raw sensations pounding through my blood. My skin felt as if I was about to phase. Maybe I was.

“Jasmine,” he whispered, the word falling against my lips, and then his body was pressing mine into the mattress, heavy, sweet and hard.

Katy Evans Interview + Giveaway

Published November 24, 2013 by bookbesties

REMY Banner copy

As many people who follow my Facebook or Twitter than you guys know that I am madly in love with All things Katy Evans! I think I need an AA group for it, really. But kicking off the 3rd installment of her ‘Real’ books is Remy, which is the last two book told from the lovable but frightening lion himself. And trust me if you though he was intense in the last two, just WAIT until you read what is going down in his head! But, that review will come later, Katy herself stopped by the blog to talk to us for a bit. YAY! But first wanna win an iPad Mini?

Rafflecopter Entry

First, I bow down to you, I thought Real and Mine, were amazing, but Remy was fan-*ucking-tastic! How do you stay focused when you are pushing out these amazing books?

Oh, my gosh! First of all, thank you for having me and for the kind words. As far as being focused, it’s their story. I LOVE their story and it’s what consumes my thoughts when I was writing it. So, staying focused wasn’t an issue when you’re literally thinking about them always.

When your writing do you ever feel any self-doubt, like readers won’t like it?

Of course, I mean, I think everyone does at some point especially when you feel so connected to the characters. As an author we devote so much time crafting them that doubt trickles in but we have to believe in our story and tamp it down with the hope that the readers embrace it like the author does.

And embrace it we did! In Real, Mine and Remy I found so many messages that could be taken away from them, (i. e. Unconditional love, Overcoming obstacles, Mental health, ect..), What’s the one message you would want readers to take away from your books?  Ok, fun questions.

I’d say that unconditional love and finding that person that you genuinely love more than anything else is possible with your soul mate beside you.

I love that reply! OK, Now a question from on of your readers; If your could be any type of candy which would you be?

Something chocolatey and decadent

Yes, who doesn’t love chocolate?! What is the most fun and or nicest/random gift you have received from a reader?

A friend sent me the biggest lollipop, and then some amazing handmade frames with Real pictures of boxing gloves, lions. She said it was some bling to lighten up my cave, and it does. But I’ve gotten all sorts of amazing gifts from bloggers and readers. They are ALL in my cave right where I keep all my books and on view from my computer.

That sound amazing! As always it’s been awesome getting to know more about you, I sing your praises all the time:-) Keep up the great writing!

THANK YOU for being such an amazing reader and supporter. ❤

It was such a blast talking with her. Want more info on Katy?

Mine by Katy Evans (Blog Tour & Giveaway)

Yea, Katy Evans, you so totally got this!

Where do I start! If I thought that my 6 out of 5 star review could not be repeated I was wrong. (Silly Rabbit) I should have known that the same author would get the same rating. Why?! Because she is amazing! I loved Real, I did, but man Mine?! There are no words and it maybe because I have a slight (or big) infatuation with Remy.

Mine picks up 2 months after the end of Real and Brooke and Remy’s love is still super nova hot!!!  As with Real I love the way Kay writes, I love the way the words are formatted to make the emphasis on the words reach out and grab you.

“My god the fans are thirsty for him tonight,” Pete breathes. And so am I. My god. So Am I.”

If you loved Remy before, be prepared to love him more!, First of all he is hotter(if that is even possible) than he was in Real, yea there is a whole lotta this

His vulnerability in this book was so palpable it was almost hard to contain how much I felt for him and what he was going through. He was so much more vocal in this book than before. He was still strong and quiet but when he spoke it has such an impact.

“You, are going to love me until I die. I’m going to make you love me even if it hurts, and when it hurts, I’m going to make it better.”

How can you not love that?!

Let’s talk about the music! We know that if music is featured in a book then it can sometimes make the book, in this case Katy’s amazing song choices it only added to it. We thought that ‘Iris’ which is now the theme song for Real was perfect, just wait until you get a load of the song choice for Mine. (My particular favorite is in the second to last chapter) Some of my favorite musician’s songs are featured; Goo Goo Dolls, Nickleback, and Kelly Clarkson to name a few. There were so many OMG and WTF moments that I was glad I was alone while reading this book because I yelled and cursed out loud so much.  Katy does a magnificent job of mixing romance, passion and action nicely rolled into an amazing and kick ass ending to a great story even though I am sad it is the end. I will be re-reading this one for a long time!

6 out of 5 stars!

Olivia Twisted by Vivi Barnes

Published November 3, 2013 by bookbesties

I have never seen Oliver Twist but I like to think that if you put that and Hackers together you come up with this fantastic called Olivia Twisted by ViVi Barnes. ViVi’s writing is so catching, It literally makes you not want to put the book down, I was drawn in from the very first chapter!

Liv(Olivia) is a foster kid who, like any other has been through the ringer, and when she moves in with her latest foster family she starts a new school and meets two new friends who are also foster kids but drive fancy cars and nice motorcycle and just happen to be  great in computer programming class, like her. But little does Liv know there is more to her two new friends than meets the eye. Z is polo wearing, self-made geek, but underneath that Liv sees his hard exterior and soon see’s that Z has two majorly different sides about him. This book reminded me so much of hackers, I loved it.

The book is told in dual POV’s (Liv & Z) and it was great to get into both their heads especially in a story like this one. I liked the fact that it wasn’t all based on algorithms and computer lingo that I wouldn’t know unless I was into computers like that, but more based on the evolution of the two MC’s (Z and Liv). I liked the mystery in the book as well, generally I don’t read mystery novels because I can basically riddle it out by the 6 chapter but this one was more of suspense with a little mystery. The world that ViVi Barnes wrote was so believable, that although it was fiction it could totally be real life as well. What book (in my opinion anyway) can be complete without a little romance or love story in it? This had a great love story, the way Barnes wrote from Z’s prospective was amazing and mesmerizing. I always find a love story more MORE when I know what’s going on in the guy’s head as well.

The only thing I would have liked was for the epilogue to be a little bit longer, but all in all ViVi Barnes wrote a great book for her debut and I can’t wait to read what she comes up with next!

**** I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review****
