Published October 5, 2015 by bookbesties
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Synopsis

Cliffhanger notice: This book will satisfy your needs but make you want to come back for more.
International Best Selling Author, Abbie St. Claire brings you Conflicted on 5th, a 5th Avenue Romance Novel. Conflicted on 5th will lead you down a journey of loss, love and triumph over self-doubts and vulnerabilities.
Widower, Dr. Ian Briggs leads a complicated life. Raising his son and juggling his busy orthopedic practice have been his focus. Relationships take time and energy, something he lacks after a day at work and an evening with Oliver. After losing the love of his life, he never considered a replacement. You can’t replace your heart.
Chelsie Peterson divorced her cheating spouse with the intent of staying a single parent forever. Carson Peterson’s last words to her regarding her sexual performance cut her to her soul. While he used them to blame her for his own misgivings, he left her with a haunting void in her own measurement of self-worth.
Ian’s relocation changes everything. Living down the street from Chelsea, he finds himself captivated and confused. How does he balance work, fatherhood and his libido?
The arrival of Ian Briggs changes everything. Chelsie’s once contained life is now full of questions. The biggest being her value as a woman—will she ever be enough for a man, especially a man like Ian. How can she balance work, motherhood and her doubt?
While they find an escape cavorting on the side, true feelings get in the way. Life is fabulous fun and full of feelings but sometimes it leaves you simply Conflicted.

He tossed the ropes back in the drawer and gripped both my hands, pulling me to sit on the bed with him. “When we started making love earlier, I could tell you weren’t confident with yourself or your image. I know this by the way you tried to hide yourself. What I don’t know is who fucked with your head. You are hot. Your body is beautiful, and you should be proud of it. You’re so responsive. Being restrained makes you vulnerable, yes, but it also helps you to understand and embrace sensations that you can no longer hide from or—control. It actually gives you sexual freedom.”

“And you know this how?”

“I’ve studied the art of sexual pleasure.”

I thought for a moment. I looked at his body, and the dark, primal lust emanating from his eyes.“You’re a Dom. Look, I’m no sub. You’ve picked yourself the wrong girl.”

I slid my legs from the bed and tried to stand, but he pulled me into his lap. “So, let me get this straight. You want to tie me up and in some miraculous way, show me sexual freedom from my fears. You think you know me so well, but yet I barely know you. So tell me, doc, what are you afraid of?”

I wanted to challenge him, see if he’d expose his own weakness or perhaps be caught off guard and not know what to say.

“You.” He swallowed hard. His chin was at my eye level, and I viewed the clenching of his jaw before the rise and fall of his chest taking a deep breath. “You make me feel things and think too much about things I haven’t thought of since Olivia and that scares the fucking hell out of me.”

Brutal honesty and disclosure—took me by a thunderous storm inside my chest, holding my breath hostage.

His shoulders went limp with his confession. Vulnerability controlled both of us in far reaching spectrums, although by the same token placing us on an even playing field.

That was, until he opened the drawer and retrieved the ropes.

We sat in silence while music played in the background. He pulled me tightly to his chest and held me, running his fingers through my hair. “I’m no Dom. I don’t believe in having a sexual slave. I do like using toys and apparatuses for pleasure, but you will never call me Master or Sir, and I will never ask for a contract or command you to do something.”

“You’ve never been to one of those chamber places?”

The quiet became maddening to the point I couldn’t stand it. With my hands on his chest, I pushed away from him to maneuver a stare down.

“Yes, I’ve been. Here and California.”

The elephant landed in the room.

Undead and Unforgiven by Mary Janice Davidson(Review Post)

Published October 3, 2015 by bookbesties
Undead and Unforgiven (Undead, #14)

$12.99 Via Amazon Kindle

If Betsy Taylor has learned anything about ruling Hell it’s: 1) she can’t do it alone, and 2) she doesn’t have to.  She’s got the help of a devoted vampire king, a dateless zombie, an exhausted new mom, an unshowered cop, a bitchy ghost, a kindly dead priest, and her late stepmother (“Go Team Satan!”).  But the latest major hurdle in her post-dead life is so big she can’t even see it until it’s on CNN.

Betsy’s father and half-sister Laura (a former Anti-Christ with a grudge) have outed Betsy to the world. It doesn’t take long for the story to become 24-7 headline news. What’s more, people are not only prepared to believe in vampires, they want to kill them. For Betsy, social media has never felt so…unsocial.

Before long the mansion on Summit Avenue is swarming with reporters, would-be vampire/zombie killers, and desperate emos begging to be turned. Betsy has been forced into the unenviable role as the reluctant face of the vampire nation. All she knows is, she has to look good—this is hi-def!—and stay true to who she is. H8ers be damned.

So, I just finished Undead and Unforgiven and I’m sorry to say that it took 8 books to come to one that I loved as much and the original ones involving Betsy.  This was funny and snarky with a mix of sadness (involving the mini unnamables).  The last couple books have felt forced and trite when following along with the royal household and their friends; so much so that I did not read a couple books in the middle.

Betsy is growing into and embracing her position in the supernatural universe.  I didn’t have as many “my goodness you are dumb and I want to slap you” moments.  There were times I was proud of her sticking up for herself and emphasizing her status as a monarch and her place as a co-spouse not a subordinate.  I would have loved to have more of Baby Jon in her life, but we haven’t really seen much of him since they returned from the Cape and found out he was invulnerable to supernatural harm (see, haven’t forgotten about this!!).  And I want to see Baby Jon with the twins, he should be able to grow up and interact with his cousins.

Eric Sinclair, sexy as every!  There is one scene here that, no, it’s not as graphic as some of their other interludes, but there is such a connection with them and it builds with their attraction to each other’s bodies.  For future reference, I want Eric in jeans at some point, maybe just to show that he can relax, even just a bit from his designer suits.

I have major feels still for Marc, that is kinda constant, and this book totally brought on my inner girlie girl squealing and giggling with joy for him… nope, no spoilers!  I feel something building between Tina and Marc that cannot end well, I feel heartbreak on the horizon coming, but then Betsy will probably pull some of her monarchy power and change everything.

So, enough speculation, I really enjoyed Undead and Unforgiven, fantastic book.  I think it brought back some of the spirit we have been missing from the story so far.

Dangerously Broken (A Dangerous Romance)

It’s all or nothing…

Growing up, Summer Grace Rae lusted after Jamie Stewart-Greer something fierce. But her older brother’s best friend was strictly off limits. And in time Summer convinced herself to forget about him—until one erotic encounter…

Jamie has a dark side, and his BDSM fantasies are the perfect way to explore it. But he’s always hidden his extreme lifestyle from the one person who elicited his ultimate, forbidden passions. After all, Summer has been like a little sister to him for years—until Jamie sees her at the most infamous kink club in New Orleans.

Now, every taboo craving they’ve ever had is made real, in the flesh, and sending them on a sensual journey of discovery. But as their relationship spirals into the darkest recesses of desire, they’re both left breathlessly wanting more—and love could be the most dangerous fetish of them all.

Again, new author for me having never read books by her before and I have to say that I was impressed. While I liked, I didn’t loooove it but don’t let that fool you, this was a good read for me.

The story follows Summer as she takes the mission to win over her brothers best friend who she has crushed on all these years.(Not an original story arc but still one I love) What she does not know is that Jamie has a side to him that will soon grip her in. Imagine finding out your crush is a semi Christian Grey!  I loved watching the fight between these two ignite and evolve. The story will keep you on your toes and have you waiting for what’s around the corner which is great because again, story line is not original but it kept me intrigued. Jamie is very confident and Summer is provoking and the two make this a great read, especially  for a rainy day when you want to hid from the world. I all around enjoyed the storyline,  great characters, romance, some down and dirty scenes all mixed into a good binding(total pun intended).

She doesn’t depend on anyone for anything. He intends to make her his completely.

Natalie Udall thought her position at the CIA was secure—until protecting her team earned her an armed escort into certain danger. Natalie can’t stand the idea of being secreted away in a cabin in the middle of nowhere, especially since it means sharing close quarters with the controlling bodyguard enlisted to keep her alive.

Gabe MacIntosh joined the military to support his son, trained as a sniper and dealt with death on a regular basis. Now retired and operating a security firm, his first assignment is to protect a CIA agent on the run. She’s strong willed and difficult—and all Gabe can think about is exerting his domination and stripping her of every expectation she has.

Natalie has no intention of giving in to Gabe’s straightforward demands of dominant sex with no attachments—even though the very idea of giving up control thrills her like nothing ever has…

Intriguing, sexy and lovable are all words to describe this great read.

I was unfamiliar with this author and had no backstory as to the two before it but reading it I didn’t feel lost or like I had to read the previous books to know what was going on. The story has a great mix of romance sprinkled with a touch of sexiness. It features two hot headstrong people where the chemistry between them is sizzling but they don’t want to give in to it, add a in a little mystery/suspense because what IS Gave hiding? You won’t be disappointed when picking up this book to read. Great read! I loved it and now I want to go back(want, not have to) and read the other two! She has gained a new fan!

Last Hope ( A Hitman Novel #4) by Jessica Clare, Jen Frederick (Review Post)

Published September 29, 2015 by bookbesties

Mendoza: I grew up in the slums and lost everything I loved to poverty, illness, and death. I had only one skill to leverage myself out of my circumstances—violence. Being hired out as a mercenary hitman brought me money and built an empire. But all that I’ve fought for is in jeopardy. My next job: Steal secret information that could bring down world governments. Find my target. Destroy it. But then, I meet her.
Ava: Karma hates me. When my best friend Rose is kidnapped, I have no choice but to take a job as a mule for a pair of criminals intent on selling top-secret information to the highest bidder. I should have known that bad luck tends to cling, because the plane I’m on goes down. That I survived a crash-landing was a miracle. And so was being rescued by Rafe Mendoza—hot, sexy, dangerous. The thing is, he wants the information that I need to free Rose. I can’t let him have it, but I need his help. And I need to fight this crazy attraction for this mercenary with hungry eyes. Rose is depending on me, and I won’t let her down, no matter how appealing Rafe is.

Ever since meeting Mendoza in Last Kiss, I was pulling for him to find love, he had the hint of a troubled soul and I was more than happy to find out that he would get his own story! I loved this story so much more than Nik and Daniel and Vasilly simply because Mendoza was like an anti-guy in the sense that he had a MAJOR hangup about his..um..size which was nicknamed Godzilla and he was a 30-something year old virgin because of it. This did not diminish from the story at all because where he lacked the sexual experience, Ava was there to fill in the holes, literally.
Ave was a breath of fresh air! I loved her sense of humor and she had me laughing out loud more than once throughout the book. I loved the jungle scenes as they were sweet, hot, and romantic all in one. My heart went out to Mendoza throughout the book at his perception of himself and it was refreshing for the girl to be the strong one, emotionally.
Loved, Loved Loved, they never disappoint and the the Hit man novels will be on my re-read list for years to come!

Brent Payton has a reputation for wanting to have fun, all the time. It’s well-earned after years of ribbing his brothers and flirting with every girl he meets, but he’s more than just a good time, even though nobody takes the time to see it. When a new girl walks into his family’s garage with big thoughtful eyes and legs for days, this mechanic wants something serious for the first time.

Ivy Dawn is done with men, all of them. She and her sister uprooted their lives for them too many times and she’s not willing to do it again. Avoiding the opposite sex at all costs seems easy enough, until the sexy mechanic with the dirty mouth bursts into her life.

Brent can’t resist the one woman who sees past his devil-may-care facade and Ivy finds it harder and harder to deny how happy he makes her. But Ivy has secrets she hasn’t shared and when the truth comes out, she must decide if she’s willing to take one more chance on love or let him go forever.

This was the first time i have read anything by this author and for not knowing what to expect I thought it was great! I loved Brent and left right away that he was more than the goofball brother he portrayed. Ivy was very much the no mans guy she portrayed but more for the sake of her sister and when the two meet you instantly see the sparks. I loved that Brent longs to be something more, like a firefighter; but feels he cant because of his reputation and STILL winds up being the hero when it counted. I loved the interaction with Violet and Brent the best, it was very heartwarming and the chemistry between Brent and Ivy was just the right amount of dirty and sweet. I felt a little lost having not read the first book but it was only a little as much was explained to not be totally lost.

I want to go back and read the first in the series and look forward to the next!

YURI (New Adult College Biker Romance) By Marian Tee (Review Post)

Published September 23, 2015 by bookbesties

YURI (New Adult College Biker Romance)

His name was Yuri Athanas.
They called him the golden boy of the Afxisi, a college org during the day and an underground racing club at night.
Like his brothers, Yuri was rich, powerful, gorgeous, and devastatingly sexy.
Unlike his brothers, Yuri did not leave a trail of broken hearts behind him.
Yuri was the angel amidst all the other Greek devils, they said.
I liked hearing that about him. It gave me hope that when we do meet again, he would remember his promise, and he would keep it.
He would take one look at me and he wouldn’t mind that I wasn’t…okay.
He wouldn’t mind I wasn’t…normal.
If he was everything I prayed he would be, he’d take one look at me and love me, like he had promised.

bright pink coloured stars scattered on a black background

This was the first time i have read anything by this author and i didn’t have any expectations, but i still found myself pleasantly surprised! It’s the 7th book in a series so it reads as if you know the characters already BUT it also reads well for a standalone. Yuri and Kalliope(Kallie) are the oddest of couples but it works for them. I loved seeing the interaction with them and it was a bit confusing as to if he belonged to a MC club or just a popular club with hot guys only and if it was an on campus club or what. Again, it would have been beneficial for me to read the entire series(which I plan to go back and do), however the chemistry was good and it was a little romance mixed with a little dirty sex made for a great weekend read! I did find that the ending was super rushed and you were left with a ton of open questions, which I understand will be addressed in the next book, but still! Not a cliffhanger more like a WTF, but I will still read more by this author because I liked her overall voice and uniqueness she brings to her books.

Prologue
The Women’s Aid worker, Pam, seems like a kind lady with short, blonde hair, and concerned grey eyes as she sits opposite me behind her desk with a sympathetic look on her face. A pen and a notebook are situated in front of her and she is listening to my every word, while I tell her of the abuse I suffered at the hands of my ex-husband. All because of a bloody tap.
I turned the tap on as slowly as I could to fill up the kettle, and the water pipe made a loud screeching sound, a rumbling that shook through the whole house. It did that every time the tap was turned on. Ian was in bed and it woke him up. He was so angry with me, he jumped out of the bed, ran down the stairs towards me and started having a complete meltdown, going completely ballistic at me for waking him up. I shook with fear his as his eyes blazed with anger; a murderous violence poured from him as he glared down at me. He started shouting at me for turning the tap on the wrong way. He said that I was a stupid fool for not knowing how do it properly. I didn’t realize there was a right way to do it. I was so frightened because I knew what was coming next.
Ian lost it completely and flew at me so fast my head spun. He was shouting and swearing; he was beyond being in control of his temper. I was scared out of my mind. I trembled as my throat closed. I proceeded to beg him not to hurt me. I pleaded with him, but it didn’t do any good. He flew at me again and punched me so hard in the face that I fell on my knees on the floor. Ian didn’t want to hear anything I had to say. He got right in my face with his forehead firmly pressed up against mine, pushing me down and shaking me with the force. “You’re pathetic. You don’t even know how to do a simple thing. Not knowing how to turn on a tap quietly, you stupid bitch.” He punched me again and again. “Next time, yeah,” he shouted, “Do it fucking right.” He punched me on the right side of my jaw. I could no longer hold myself up.
I slowly agreed that I was pathetic for not knowing how to turn the damn tap on correctly, then my head smashed on the floor full force.
I could feel the blow to my eyes as he repeatedly hit me over and over and again. Black spots filled my vision then everything turned black. When I came to, I couldn’t believe what was happening to me, and Kayleigh. Was she ever going to be safe? What sort of mum am I to let this happen? How can I stop it? I believed that I must have deserved everything I went through. I must have one of those faces men want to injure. Ian left me alone and went to his sister’s house to calm down. I went to the bathroom and splashed my face with cold water, and it hurt so much I winced; the pain was excruciating. The water slowly soothed my face, stinging slightly with each splash. I couldn’t see very well as my eyelids had swelled and were changing colour, my tears stinging the open wounds. My head was in so much pain, I put my face back into the water in the sink to soothe it.
I looked up into the mirror; I was a complete mess. No amount of make-up was going to cover it up; it felt like my heart would pop through my chest, it was racing so hard.
All I wanted to do was go and see my mum and tell her what happened, ask her for help. But I knew she would be disappointed in me. I couldn’t call her and tell her, she would think I’m such a failure. I stared at my broken reflection in the mirror trying to figure out what I had done to deserve this and I couldn’t. I was so shocked, so scared out of my mind. Ian was back in no time at all with a box of chocolates, like that made it all ok again. He said he was a psychotic human being. He kept saying how sorry he was, so sorry for what he had done, so sorry for losing control and that he couldn’t believe he had hurt his woman. He promised me it would never happen again, but the damage was already done.

I am a domestic engineer (born and raised in NJ) whose sole responsibility is to guide three young, impressionable kids into becoming phenomenal adults. Before becoming a domestic goddess (not really), I spent over a decade in the medical field, where I wore more hats than the Queen.

I have loved the written word and the great escape it provides since I was a little girl. When I wasn’t reading about people and the places they lived, I was creating my own characters and adventures.

Finding myself again through my writing in The Lost & Found Series, The One, and The GEG Series has been nothing short of a dream come true. Also, it makes people feel better when I laugh randomly or talk to myself, knowing it’s my characters and not “the voices” . . . that would be creepy.
