Wickedly Wonderful

Published December 7, 2014 by bookbesties

wickedly

This was my first Baba Yaga novel, but Wickedly Wonderful was a very enjoyable book.  It looks like a typical love story with some supernatural aspects thrown in but was surprisingly about the issues at hand, solving the problem, and saving the people affected.

Beka is a resilient, independent, extraordinarily powerful creature that has amazing responsibilities.  She has a ditzy blond side that drives me crazy, but it adds to her character development.  I like that she didn’t fall all over the Selkie Prince and his charming ways.  There was no fawning or giving up morals and powers to get someone who “cherishes” her like no one ever has.

Of course, my absolute favorite character, Chewie; who doesn’t love a dragon?  Especially one with such snark that naturally comes to his vocabulary.  He takes his job duties very seriously, is extremely loyal, and he brings the expected comedic relief to the book while interjecting some seriously needed common sense.

Marcus is also not your typical Prince Charming.  He is gruff and clumsy in his shows of affection and is not afflicted by “love at first sight” with the skinny, blonde, surfer girl.  He grows to care about her and eventually falls in love.  He wins Beka over by being himself and not changing into a smooth talking Don Juan that poisons her with every bite.  He has his own problems and does not once give in everything for a woman.

I am looking forward to the next book and even looking into going out to find the first book to read more into the Baba Yaga world.

4.5 stars.

Without Consequence Cover Reveal

Published December 6, 2014 by bookbesties
Book: Without Consequence
Author: Victoria L. James and LJ Stock
Genre:Contemporary M/C Romance

Synopsis

There are two kinds of prison sentence that try to break us: the ones served behind iron bars and the ones served through a lifetime of guilt. Some people are handed just one. The unfortunate are given both.
Drew Tucker, despite his formidable reputation, was a man shrouded in darkness who had been dealt every kind of sentence known to man. His only path of survival was to fight and conquer. After five years of solitude, with nothing to keep him company but old ghosts and relentless demons, Drew was finally out, and he had a plan in mind to reign supreme once more.
But everything had changed since he’d left the small town of Babylon, Texas, and where he once fit into the world around him, he now felt misguided, misplaced and misunderstood. Freedom wasn’t free anymore and it sure as hell didn’t come cheap.
That only got worse when he crossed paths with Ayda Hanagan. Legal guardian of her teenage brother, over worked, underpaid and clinging onto sanity by the skin of her teeth, Ayda should have been easier for Drew to beat down and manipulate. She should have been easier to keep quiet. But, as with everything in his life since he got released, nothing seemed to make any damn sense, and the walls were caving in on Drew now more than ever before.
Determined to stay on the road he was born to travel, he was willing to fight whoever got in his way or blocked his path to the top. Even the blue-eyed blonde who seemed to have more mouth than sense. His actions were about to shake up the whole town again, and Drew didn’t care whether that came with or without consequences, or what the hell that meant for the likes of Ayda Hanagan.

Author Bio

L.J. Stock on Victoria L. James ~ What can I say about Victoria L. James? Loads actually, she’s an amazingly talented author and I had the absolute distinct pleasure of writing with her. I also call her a friend. When we first met, we bonded instantly over our love of music, Victoria tends to be as eclectic as I am with her tastes. She finds stories in lyrics and feels the moods in the melodies.
When we first started writing together, I’ll admit I was intimidated. Here is this woman with a huge passion for putting words onto paper and painting pictures so clearly that you are completely immersed in them. How was I going to keep up with that? I’m not sure I ever did, but over time we’ve built up a repertoire. We bounce off one another and bring our characters to the forefront and hope that the interactions are as real as they appear for us.
On a more personal note, Victoria is bright, smart, kind, intelligent, funny, caring and witty. She can see so much in the world around her and always has time for anyone. Victoria lives in sunny ole Yorkshire with her family and her cats – had to mention them – and can normally be found in the playground of her imagination, listening to the Foo Fighters.
~~~~~~~
Victoria L. James on L.J. Stock ~ There aren’t many people you bump into in life that you want to both work and spend your free time with. From meeting L.J. through the wonder that is the internet, we soon came to realise that we had a hell of a lot in common. Music was where our friendship truly began, but our writing partnership flourished not too far behind. I always felt like my writing was missing something, and it was only when I read L.J.’s work that I realised what exactly that was. It was missing her influence!
After spending over a year working together, day in, day out, not a moment goes by where I don’t thank the Twitter Gods for bringing this amazingly strong and talented woman into my life. She’s an inspiration, a positive force in every situation and one hell of a talented writer. To say I’m honoured that she wanted to create a new world with me is a gross understatement. I’m blown away. One day, I hope I get lucky enough to visit her in Texas, where she lives with her family and her zoo of animals, so we can write by her pool and take part in our other dream… The great Taylor Kitsch Road (stalking) Trip. Who needs a yacht in the Caribbean when we have that to look forward to, right?
Meet The Author
MJ Summers currently resides in Canada, not far from the Rocky Mountains, with her husband, three young children and their goofy dog. When she’s not writing romance novels, she loves reading (obviously), snuggling up on the couch with her family for movie night (which would not be complete without lots of popcorn and milkshakes), hiking, Zumba and yoga (to make up for the milkshakes), swimming and camping (with lots of gooey s’mores and hard ciders). She also loves shutting down restaurants once a month with her girlfriends. Well, not literally shutting them down, like calling the health inspector or something. More like just staying until they turn the lights off.
In the Mix by Jacquelyn Ayres release Blitz!
Published December 3, 2014 by bookbesties
Book: In The Mix
Author: Jacquelyn Ayres
Genre: Erotic/Romance/Humor
Synopsis
*** This book contains the GEGs! For those of you who don’t understand that warning: GEGs= strong language. gut-busting LOL moments caused by best friends who check their maturity at the door when they’re together, and impromptu Kegel exercises. This book does not come with batteries.Though it can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the series in order since all books will have a continuation of EVERYONE’S story. Enjoy! ***
CiCi O’Brien has a weapon of mass destruction—her mouth. It’s always loaded and ready to strike, whether the situation calls for laughter or a professional smartass. It’s been her strongest defense against unwanted feelings over the past fifteen years. If she acts like she doesn’t care, then she won’t, right?
Yeah . . . keep telling yourself that, Ceese!
Luckily for CiCi, she’s surrounded by friends and family who can easily see through her façade. They (and the furballs she takes care of at work) are who enrich her life, have been the ones she’s needed. That is, until the day her life changed—when she grabbed it by the balls.
No, seriously . . . she grabbed him by the balls. Not kidding.
Kyle Cooper has it all. He’s smart, handsome, and a ninja (not really, but that’s what Mitch likes to call him). As vice president of Colton Technologies, he travels around the world with Mitch, bringing companies the latest innovations in automobile technology. At home, he’s a force to be reckoned with, always hanging out with his parents and sister or . . . working.
Oh.
Kyle Cooper does not have it all, and he’s ready for a change. He just isn’t sure where to begin. That is, until CiCi O’Brien walks into his office and grabs this bull by the . . . horns (wink), which causes a spark to ignite in both of them. Kyle embraces it. CiCi does everything, short of calling the fire department, to put it out. Who will prevail? And what will that win truly mean?
Author Bio
I am a domestic engineer (born and raised in NJ) whose sole responsibility is to guide three young, impressionable kids into becoming phenomenal adults. This challenging yet rewarding work requires a lot of love (coffee), patience (wine), and determination (periodic exorcisms). I work this magic from the beautiful state of New Hampshire.Before becoming a domestic goddess (not really), I spent over a decade in the medical field, where I wore more hats than the Queen.
I have loved the written word and the great escape it provides since I was a little girl. When I wasn’t reading about people and the places they lived, I was creating my own characters and adventures.
Finding myself again through my writing in The Lost & Found Series, The One, and The GEG Series has been nothing short of a dream come true. Also, it makes people feel better when I laugh randomly or talk to myself, knowing it’s my characters and not “the voices” . . . that would be creepy.
In the end, a sacrifice must be made. A life for a life. For what better way to cover a multitude of sins than with the blood of a sinner . . .
You can totally read my Review below loved, loved, LOVED this book and am wholeheartedly Team Nixon for Life!
Greed, Power, Money and Love. Add all of that together and what do you get? Elect
There was this
And maybe some of this
  I waited 7 long grueling days for this book and stalked Rachel Van Dyken’s Facebook page for every piece of extra scenes and sneak peeks until I drove myself crazy with want for this book! And can I just say that it did not disappoint. It’s really hard for me not write a spoil-free review because I want to tell you all what parts absolutely slayed me and what parts made me so mad, I contemplated throwing my kindle out a window(I have a 2 year warranty I would have been good) because I was so mad at the direction it was going. But I refrained.  The book picks up right where Elite left off, and if I thought I was blown away by that one, I was not prepared for Elect! Elite, to me was kind of like a Mafia for beginners, easing you into the world of the youngest and biggest Mafia boss and everything that entails. Elect put’s you right in the heart of it all; with more action and/ or gross factors as it is solely told from the men of the series POV’s.
Ahh, the men.
While reading this book I hate to say it but my loyalties shifted just a scotch.  The character’s I loved in the first book, I had a slight aversion to in this one and the same goes with the ones I hated, I found myself sympathizing with them.  Just when you think you know what’s going to happen, BOOM RVD throws the monkey of all monkey wrenches into it and you are left scratching your head going, ‘What just happened?’
She wove such a great and intricate plot twist that I seriously contemplated if Rachel herself didn’t have ties to the Mafia, because things like that could only really happen in the Mafia. I loved  how all the characters seemed so real to me, there was not one that I could not relate to and THAT is a feet for author’s, because you really relate to one, maybe two character’s in a series not all.  I think that Is a bonus for writing in dual POV’s, you get a chance to empathize and connect with the other person, or people in this matter.  This series is going to be my favorite series to look forward to in this coming year, Rachel Van Dyken is an amazing author that has made it to my top ten authors in such a short time.
Ripped By Katy Evans
Published December 1, 2014 by bookbesties
17830562
Every woman wants me–except the one I sing for.
Seattle shakes with anticipation: they call it the concert of the year. They say girls are getting pregnant just thinking about my band being in town.
But when you love a girl, you don’t leave her with nothing but a ring and a promise. Any man with half a brain should know.
So what did I expect my girl would do when she saw me again?
Well, for starters, she loathes our music. Particularly the song I wrote about her.
When I sing it, the stadium is in an uproar. Thousands of fans scream my name like I’m a god–but yeah, not her. Crystal clear: the girl’s not happy to see me.
Black hair, black boots, a bad attitude, that’s her — Pandora Stone is a freaking man-eater and she’s out for my blood.
That’s alright.
Let her come at me. Because I’m out for her heart and, this time, there’s no way she can stop me.
My Review
I have been a HUGE Katy Evans fan since REAL, if you followed my blog for that long, than you know I think I posted about it every damn day I was so in love with the story and the writing, It just grabbed me and wouldn’t let go! Well that’s how the last book in the series is, Ripped. I had my qualms that I always get with a series: Is it going to be the same old story with different names and settings and been there read that. But with each of Katy’s books they surprised me and got better and better? Save the best for last really rang true in this case with Ripped.
Let me just state something, I flated(effing hated) Pandora from the moment she was introduced in Real and throughout the whole series. She was so negative and eff men this and eff men that, that I HAD to read what happened to her, and man I’m retracting my statement! Pandora is a Goth, she’s all gothy and hates men, one man in particular and doesn’t believe in love and happiness.
 “Trying wore me out, and it only made it more aware that I didn’t belong.”
Within the first few chapters I was getting out my tissue because Pandora was just so…sad, even though on the outside she was one pissed off chick.
And don’t even get me started on Mackenna, Hot damn, Mackenna is like..
Katy always has the best chemistry between her main MC’s but these were, possibly, maybe a little hotter than Brooke and Remy! (Runs and hides from the angry stares). I know I had to definitely take some chapter breaks from all the hot lovin’ going on! It was nice to see a little more of the couple that started this all, Brook and Rem and what they were up to. I don’t think I can say how much I loved this book and I know that I will pimp this out in the months, years to come and I can’t wait to see when Katy tops this (and she will).
Caged in Winter by Brighton Walsh
Published November 28, 2014 by bookbesties
9780425276488_medium_Caged_in_Winter
Aspiring chef Cade Maxwell is immediately, viscerally attracted to Winter Jacobson. But it’s not her mouthwatering curves he’s drawn to–it’s the strange emptiness in her eyes. When Cade saves her from a drunken customer with grabby hands, he’s shocked at her response…
Winter doesn’t need Cade’s help. After a lifetime of getting by on her own, she’s happy to rely on herself. She’s exactly seventy-six days away from graduating college, and if she can hold it together that long, she’ll finally be able to rise above the crappy hand she was dealt.
But now, every time she turns around, Cade is there, ready to push her, smile at her, distract her from her plans. Winter knows she can’t afford to open up–especially to a man she’s terrified to actually want…
My Review
I have never read anything by this author before but I was intrigued by the Synopsis and thought it would be a good read. I immediately loved Winter, she was just this strong type personality that needed no one and didn’t take any poo from anyone. Cade took me a little longer to warm up too, which is why I paused a few times reading this book. Mostly because it was hard picturing a bad ass looking dude with tat’s and piercing as a chef but then I think hey Guy Fieri and I’m like ya, okay I see it. Totally did not see the turn this book took (in a good way) in terms of the sex. It was pretty hot and explicit, two of the things I love about any book. I really empathized with Winter and the struggle of Ramin noodle and cardboard pizza dinner. I felt what the characters were feeling when they were feeling them and that is a result of good writing. Brighton Walsh tells a story in such a way that is sucks you in and makes you pause and just, feel. Once I did get into the meat of the book though? It was amazing and I loved that it wasn’t a typical HEA and it was more realistic than …he loved me I loved him and we were happy.
Great lead into the next book in the series, I have a feeling Jason is gonna be Dirty in such a good way! Good Job Brighton!
4 out of 5 Stars!
Early Praise for Cowboy Heat
Praise for Ivy League Cowboy
These two are downright lovable! You are rooting for them to get together from the get go. The chemistry between them is smoking HOT, and…once they get in bed you will need a fan.
~Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews
Holy smokes, that was hot. This is a true erotic romance. There’s a lot of sex, but it was there for a reason… I cried twice (not in a bad way) and had quite a few hearty chuckles at the subtle humor… I got my tidy happily-ever-after ending and stayed up until 4:45 a.m. to get it. I read this through in one sitting, and started the spin-off, A Cowboy and a Gentleman, at 4:46… Helen Hardt isn’t a one-trick pony: where Ivy League Cowboy has an underlying sweetness to it, A Cowboy and a Gentleman crackles with the fire of attraction between a more mature couple and has a lot more situational humor.
~Award Winning Author Holley Trent
Fast-paced and sensual, this story is a nice rainy-day read while you’re snuggled up next to your partner.
~Bibliophilic Book Blog
Praise for A Cowboy and a Gentlemen
This is a wonderful book! It has it all! It is so hot at times you feel like your e-reader just might melt and it also gets all your emotions involved… I could not stop reading it till I was finished.
~Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews
Heartbreaking, yet sensual and explosive, A Cowboy and a Gentleman is a true love story with real emotional depth and character development.
~Bibliophilic Book Blog
A yummy cowboy and a saucy Jersey girl make up this fun couple, and their chemistry is easy to believe. Both divorced, they each have pasts that they must overcome in order to move forward and love again. It was easy to cheer for both of them… The small town setting of Bakersville adds to this book’s appeal.
