Cruz met his father on his way back to the house. “I am required elsewhere, but please see to our guest in the stables. Her name is Natalia.”
Cruz nodded. “Of course, Papa.”
He moved toward the stables and thought it unusual that a woman would wish to see the stables at a fiesta. Most women he knew would be concerned about their dress and hair, not horseflesh.
He stepped inside the large stables and felt the cooler temperature. The horses were each inside their stalls, and he saw a figure at the far end of the large structure. She was dressed in a dark blue gown. He took long strides toward the woman. He would see her safely back, as his father wished.
“Senorita,” he said swiftly, and when she turned, he felt his heart begin to race.
“You!” she said, startled.
Natalia noticed his crisp clothes, from the cut of his trousers made of wool to the jacket he wore that emphasized his shoulders and hips. Everything about him spoke of quality and breeding, and suddenly she knew without a doubt who he was.
“Senor Villareal,” she said quietly.
“And you must be Natalia de la Rosa,” he said softly.
Natalia almost flinched as he spoke her name so softly and with such sensuality. He enunciated every syllable of her name drawing it out as Nah-ta-lee-ah.
“Must I?”
“My father asked that I see to our guest, and he said her name was Natalia.”
“But why de la Rosa?”
“When I returned from Spain, I was told we had new neighbors, and that Don Paco had three daughters of uncommon loveliness. The eldest one in particular was said to be quite beautiful.”
Natalia blushed under his dark scrutiny.
“You shouldn’t listen to gossip,” she said.
“Let me escort you back, Natalia.” He threaded his arm through hers.
Natalia turned to him. “You may call me senorita, which is proper since I don’t give you leave to use my Christian name.”
“Now why is that? I quite like the taste of it on my tongue.”
Natalia flushed. “Your behavior is inappropriate.”
“Is it?”
 “Yes. It is.”
“I don’t recall any objection the other night when we were at the ocean’s edge.”
Natalia looked around to make certain that they were alone. “Nothing happened the other night except that you touched me when I did not give you leave to! And I said nothing because I thought you an ill-bred ruffian.”
He gazed down at her oval face and into her warm brown eyes. She was a lovely woman, and it amazed him that she was not already married with several children. What man wouldn’t want to bed her quickly and make her his?
“Ruffian? I thought I was a bandit, though in truth I am a Californio with Spanish blood,” he stated matter-of-factly.
“And I’m a Mexican woman of Sonora,” she said proudly.
“Our children would be another generation of Californios, were we to marry,” he said, caressing her arm.
Natalia was shocked at his words. “Marry? I’m sorry, Senor Villareal, but I can say with utmost certainty that I will never marry you. You’re very arrogant, and you presume too much.”
Cruz made a tsk-tsk sound. “That is most unfortunate. Because I suddenly find that after all this time, I am ready to marry.”
“Then I wish you much luck in your pursuit of a bride.” She tried to move away from him only to find him holding her arm in his firm, warm grasp.
“If I did wish to marry you, Natalia, nothing on earth would stop me from having what I want,” he said before he pulled her into his arms.
When his mouth touched hers, the kiss was filled with desire and a hint of anger. His tongue touched hers, and she was startled.
Since that first meeting at the ocean’s edge, he had been enchanted by her beauty and spirit. She was like one of his father’s magnificent Arabians. He wanted to possess her but also hold her and keep her safe. It was a feeling that overwhelmed him and shocked him. He had never felt that way about a woman.
Natalia’s heart raced, and she realized that she was kissing a virtual stranger. She felt desire for him, and it was a new and somewhat disconcerting feeling. When she pushed away from him, she wiped her mouth with the back of her hand without thinking.
“That’s offensive,” he told her, fighting back a grin.
“You’re offensive!” A blush spread across her cheeks, and she looked delectable.
“Is there another lover I should be made aware of? Do I have to call a duel for your hand?” He made an attempt to peer about the stables as if looking for someone.
“My father loves me! I have final say on any marriage proposal, and you may rest assured that I will say no if you approach my father!” she said, her breasts heaving.
He would have sold his soul in that moment to drag her into a stall, toss up her skirts, and taste the sweet honey between her legs.
“I’m sure he does love you, Natalia. You are a beautiful woman. Perhaps he wants to keep you by his side for that reason. But even he knows that you cannot stay unmarried forever. I can offer you much.” He smiled at her.
“I dare you to ask him!” She was shaking, and she wanted to smack the arrogant grin off of his face.
“Stop the hysterics, Natalia. Come, let me escort you back. It was just a kiss,” he soothed.
“No, thank you,” she said, moving away from him.
She began to walk down the long aisle, passing the many stalls. When she glanced behind her, she saw he hadn’t followed. Instead, she saw him standing near his horse, touching its long neck and licking his lips as if savoring her taste. She despised him then.
When she rejoined the party, she saw Ignacio standing next to Neddy with a wide smile on his face. Neddy was smiling shyly up at him, and she knew that they would be married soon. She was happy for her sister and would congratulate her once the announcement had been made.
“Let’s dance.” Ignacio took Neddy’s hand, and they joined the other couples.
“My little girl is to marry,” Chelo said softly to Natalia as she stepped beside her.
“You don’t want her to marry?” Natalia asked.
“Oh, I do! I want her to be happy, but it’s hard. She was only a baby when your dear mother died, so she is like my own,” Chelo sighed.
“Of course. I understand.” Natalia nodded and touched Chelo’s hand. “But she will be happy. He’s a good man, a kind man.”
Kelly O’Keefe joined them wearing a bright green dress, which she said she had brought with her from Ireland. Natalia sipped her lemonade and looked across the courtyard past the dancing couples. She could feel the pull of Cruz’s dark eyes, and the desire in them was clearly evident. He was a demon, and she turned away from him to concentrate on her friend.
Alberto watched as his friend stared at the eldest de la Rosa sister across the courtyard.
“Oh no, Cruz, not that one,” he said, shaking his head and handing his friend a glass of agua fresca.
Cruz took the offered glass but barely glanced at his friend. He was still remembering the taste of her lips in the stables and her sweet curves pressed against him. “Why not?”
Alberto sipped his own drink. “When they first arrived here, all the men wanted her. She’s beautiful, no? And there are no sons, so the property will be distributed accordingly, and rumor has it that she is Don Paco’s favorite.”
“You have told me many reasons why I should, not why I should not,” Cruz stated.
“Well, that first year there must have been at least three offers for her hand, and they were all denied,” Alberto remembered.
“What was the reason?” Cruz asked.
“Well, that was the strangest part. Don Paco told each man that he would place their offer before Natalia, but it was her choice. Each time she said no.”
Cruz grimaced. So she was right. Her father did allow her final say on any marriage proposal.
“But it’s more than that. The youngest sister let it slip to Father Ybarra, who told the whole town that there was a man once.”
“A man?” Cruz straightened.
Alberto nodded.
Of course there was a man, Cruz thought. He remembered those lush lips underneath his and her body pressed against him. She was soft and feminine and everything a woman should be. Of course there had been a man who had claimed her as his and taught her all the things a man could teach a woman.
“What happened to this man?” Cruz asked nonchalantly.
“They were engaged before they left Sonora. Apparently, the father wanted his daughters to come to Alta California first. After several months here, they received word the man had died in Sonora. All the women in town think she still grieves for her lost love, and the men want to replace him.”
Interesting, thought Cruz.
“So as I said. Not that one.” Alberto smiled.

Excerpt

I shake my head clear of those thoughts as I pull into and park in the subterranean garage. I all but jump out of the SUV and sprint to the elevator bank, in a mad rush to get to my penthouse. I’m chastising myself for not grabbing a bottle of wine or a late lunch for us as I unlock the door to the large apartment.
I empty my pockets into the basket on the front entry table. I smile to myself because I know Alexa hates the damn thing. I may actually move it this weekend. Anything to make her happy. I frown as I step further into the apartment and see that the living room and kitchen are empty. I should’ve called her first before just assuming she wouldn’t find something to do, knowing I’d be at work again until late.
I kick off my shoes and scoop them up as I make my way to the bedroom. The door is shut which is odd, but I don’t falter in my steps until I hear a man’s voice, “Fuck, just like that! Suck it deep.”
My hand hesitates on the doorknob, because I know when I swing it open my life is going to change. I teeter on the edge of indecision; my broken heart throbbing painfully in my chest. “I’m close, bitch.” I hear the masculine voice say.
Two things happen at the moment. I’m suddenly angry that Alexa is doing this to me when she thinks I’m at work, but alternately I’m pissed at this man for talking to my woman like that.
Hatred over the cheating wins out and I swing the door wide. My shoes tumble from my hands just as “What the fuck, Alexa,” boils out of my mouth.
She squeaks loudly and tries to pull the sheets over her but it’s too late. She’s already been caught.

I Loved, loved, loved Viscous Cycle so much, it was a perfect blend of Sons Of Anarchy (the best show EVER) and Dangerous Minds and I was super excited to see the lead in to Rev’s, the middle brother and ‘softer’ of the Malloy brothers.

Nathaniel ‘Reverend’ Malloy’s introduction to the reader was heartbreaking and traumatizing and you understood his temperament and reason behind a lot of  things he did and said in VC. President of his MC, which to be honest I kept forgetting he was the Prez and thought it was Deacon. this story was more focused ‘outside’ the club, even though they were on the compound it was still more centered around  Annabel and Rev’s growing relationship.

Annabel Percy was in the wrong place at the wrong time and trusted the wrong person and would up being a sex slave for two months only to be left for dead. The horror she endured left her broken, both physically and mentally and my heart broke for her so many times. the story pretty much told itself, broken down woman meets troubled biker with a secret, golden.

I loved the passion between Rev and Annabel and like in VS there was no insta love, it was all over time and that was great. Rev is less hard-headed than his brothers but when he looses control…..

While I loved the story, it did leave me wanting and I felt myself loosing interest until the end, which felt rushed.

Overall, still a great read and I cant wait for Bishops story, which I have a feeling will be the best one yet!

He tossed the ropes back in the drawer and gripped both my hands, pulling me to sit on the bed with him. “When we started making love earlier, I could tell you weren’t confident with yourself or your image. I know this by the way you tried to hide yourself. What I don’t know is who fucked with your head. You are hot. Your body is beautiful, and you should be proud of it. You’re so responsive. Being restrained makes you vulnerable, yes, but it also helps you to understand and embrace sensations that you can no longer hide from or—control. It actually gives you sexual freedom.”

“And you know this how?”

“I’ve studied the art of sexual pleasure.”

I thought for a moment. I looked at his body, and the dark, primal lust emanating from his eyes.“You’re a Dom. Look, I’m no sub. You’ve picked yourself the wrong girl.”

I slid my legs from the bed and tried to stand, but he pulled me into his lap. “So, let me get this straight. You want to tie me up and in some miraculous way, show me sexual freedom from my fears. You think you know me so well, but yet I barely know you. So tell me, doc, what are you afraid of?”

I wanted to challenge him, see if he’d expose his own weakness or perhaps be caught off guard and not know what to say.

“You.” He swallowed hard. His chin was at my eye level, and I viewed the clenching of his jaw before the rise and fall of his chest taking a deep breath. “You make me feel things and think too much about things I haven’t thought of since Olivia and that scares the fucking hell out of me.”

Brutal honesty and disclosure—took me by a thunderous storm inside my chest, holding my breath hostage.

His shoulders went limp with his confession. Vulnerability controlled both of us in far reaching spectrums, although by the same token placing us on an even playing field.

That was, until he opened the drawer and retrieved the ropes.

We sat in silence while music played in the background. He pulled me tightly to his chest and held me, running his fingers through my hair. “I’m no Dom. I don’t believe in having a sexual slave. I do like using toys and apparatuses for pleasure, but you will never call me Master or Sir, and I will never ask for a contract or command you to do something.”

“You’ve never been to one of those chamber places?”

The quiet became maddening to the point I couldn’t stand it. With my hands on his chest, I pushed away from him to maneuver a stare down.

“Yes, I’ve been. Here and California.”

The elephant landed in the room.

Undead and Unforgiven by Mary Janice Davidson(Review Post)

Published October 3, 2015 by bookbesties
Undead and Unforgiven (Undead, #14)

$12.99 Via Amazon Kindle

If Betsy Taylor has learned anything about ruling Hell it’s: 1) she can’t do it alone, and 2) she doesn’t have to.  She’s got the help of a devoted vampire king, a dateless zombie, an exhausted new mom, an unshowered cop, a bitchy ghost, a kindly dead priest, and her late stepmother (“Go Team Satan!”).  But the latest major hurdle in her post-dead life is so big she can’t even see it until it’s on CNN.

Betsy’s father and half-sister Laura (a former Anti-Christ with a grudge) have outed Betsy to the world. It doesn’t take long for the story to become 24-7 headline news. What’s more, people are not only prepared to believe in vampires, they want to kill them. For Betsy, social media has never felt so…unsocial.

Before long the mansion on Summit Avenue is swarming with reporters, would-be vampire/zombie killers, and desperate emos begging to be turned. Betsy has been forced into the unenviable role as the reluctant face of the vampire nation. All she knows is, she has to look good—this is hi-def!—and stay true to who she is. H8ers be damned.

So, I just finished Undead and Unforgiven and I’m sorry to say that it took 8 books to come to one that I loved as much and the original ones involving Betsy.  This was funny and snarky with a mix of sadness (involving the mini unnamables).  The last couple books have felt forced and trite when following along with the royal household and their friends; so much so that I did not read a couple books in the middle.

Betsy is growing into and embracing her position in the supernatural universe.  I didn’t have as many “my goodness you are dumb and I want to slap you” moments.  There were times I was proud of her sticking up for herself and emphasizing her status as a monarch and her place as a co-spouse not a subordinate.  I would have loved to have more of Baby Jon in her life, but we haven’t really seen much of him since they returned from the Cape and found out he was invulnerable to supernatural harm (see, haven’t forgotten about this!!).  And I want to see Baby Jon with the twins, he should be able to grow up and interact with his cousins.

Eric Sinclair, sexy as every!  There is one scene here that, no, it’s not as graphic as some of their other interludes, but there is such a connection with them and it builds with their attraction to each other’s bodies.  For future reference, I want Eric in jeans at some point, maybe just to show that he can relax, even just a bit from his designer suits.

I have major feels still for Marc, that is kinda constant, and this book totally brought on my inner girlie girl squealing and giggling with joy for him… nope, no spoilers!  I feel something building between Tina and Marc that cannot end well, I feel heartbreak on the horizon coming, but then Betsy will probably pull some of her monarchy power and change everything.

So, enough speculation, I really enjoyed Undead and Unforgiven, fantastic book.  I think it brought back some of the spirit we have been missing from the story so far.

Dangerously Broken by Eden Bradley (Review Post)

Dangerously Broken (A Dangerous Romance)

$9.99 on Amazon Via Kindle

It’s all or nothing…

Growing up, Summer Grace Rae lusted after Jamie Stewart-Greer something fierce. But her older brother’s best friend was strictly off limits. And in time Summer convinced herself to forget about him—until one erotic encounter…

Jamie has a dark side, and his BDSM fantasies are the perfect way to explore it. But he’s always hidden his extreme lifestyle from the one person who elicited his ultimate, forbidden passions. After all, Summer has been like a little sister to him for years—until Jamie sees her at the most infamous kink club in New Orleans.

Now, every taboo craving they’ve ever had is made real, in the flesh, and sending them on a sensual journey of discovery. But as their relationship spirals into the darkest recesses of desire, they’re both left breathlessly wanting more—and love could be the most dangerous fetish of them all.

Again, new author for me having never read books by her before and I have to say that I was impressed. While I liked, I didn’t loooove it but don’t let that fool you, this was a good read for me.

The story follows Summer as she takes the mission to win over her brothers best friend who she has crushed on all these years.(Not an original story arc but still one I love) What she does not know is that Jamie has a side to him that will soon grip her in. Imagine finding out your crush is a semi Christian Grey!  I loved watching the fight between these two ignite and evolve. The story will keep you on your toes and have you waiting for what’s around the corner which is great because again, story line is not original but it kept me intrigued. Jamie is very confident and Summer is provoking and the two make this a great read, especially  for a rainy day when you want to hid from the world. I all around enjoyed the storyline,  great characters, romance, some down and dirty scenes all mixed into a good binding(total pun intended).

She doesn’t depend on anyone for anything. He intends to make her his completely.

Natalie Udall thought her position at the CIA was secure—until protecting her team earned her an armed escort into certain danger. Natalie can’t stand the idea of being secreted away in a cabin in the middle of nowhere, especially since it means sharing close quarters with the controlling bodyguard enlisted to keep her alive.

Gabe MacIntosh joined the military to support his son, trained as a sniper and dealt with death on a regular basis. Now retired and operating a security firm, his first assignment is to protect a CIA agent on the run. She’s strong willed and difficult—and all Gabe can think about is exerting his domination and stripping her of every expectation she has.

Natalie has no intention of giving in to Gabe’s straightforward demands of dominant sex with no attachments—even though the very idea of giving up control thrills her like nothing ever has…

Intriguing, sexy and lovable are all words to describe this great read.

I was unfamiliar with this author and had no backstory as to the two before it but reading it I didn’t feel lost or like I had to read the previous books to know what was going on. The story has a great mix of romance sprinkled with a touch of sexiness. It features two hot headstrong people where the chemistry between them is sizzling but they don’t want to give in to it, add a in a little mystery/suspense because what IS Gave hiding? You won’t be disappointed when picking up this book to read. Great read! I loved it and now I want to go back(want, not have to) and read the other two! She has gained a new fan!

Last Hope ( A Hitman Novel #4) by Jessica Clare, Jen Frederick (Review Post)

Published September 29, 2015 by bookbesties

Mendoza: I grew up in the slums and lost everything I loved to poverty, illness, and death. I had only one skill to leverage myself out of my circumstances—violence. Being hired out as a mercenary hitman brought me money and built an empire. But all that I’ve fought for is in jeopardy. My next job: Steal secret information that could bring down world governments. Find my target. Destroy it. But then, I meet her.
Ava: Karma hates me. When my best friend Rose is kidnapped, I have no choice but to take a job as a mule for a pair of criminals intent on selling top-secret information to the highest bidder. I should have known that bad luck tends to cling, because the plane I’m on goes down. That I survived a crash-landing was a miracle. And so was being rescued by Rafe Mendoza—hot, sexy, dangerous. The thing is, he wants the information that I need to free Rose. I can’t let him have it, but I need his help. And I need to fight this crazy attraction for this mercenary with hungry eyes. Rose is depending on me, and I won’t let her down, no matter how appealing Rafe is.

Ever since meeting Mendoza in Last Kiss, I was pulling for him to find love, he had the hint of a troubled soul and I was more than happy to find out that he would get his own story! I loved this story so much more than Nik and Daniel and Vasilly simply because Mendoza was like an anti-guy in the sense that he had a MAJOR hangup about his..um..size which was nicknamed Godzilla and he was a 30-something year old virgin because of it. This did not diminish from the story at all because where he lacked the sexual experience, Ava was there to fill in the holes, literally.
Ave was a breath of fresh air! I loved her sense of humor and she had me laughing out loud more than once throughout the book. I loved the jungle scenes as they were sweet, hot, and romantic all in one. My heart went out to Mendoza throughout the book at his perception of himself and it was refreshing for the girl to be the strong one, emotionally.
Loved, Loved Loved, they never disappoint and the the Hit man novels will be on my re-read list for years to come!
