Angle After Dark(Promo) by Kahlen Aymes

Published January 21, 2014 by bookbesties

20131217_AngelAfterDark-kindleCov_TH (1)

Dr. Angeline Hemming is a beautiful, sassy, no-nonsense type of girl who has risen from a difficult past to become one of Chicago’s most successful and respected criminal profilers. In exchange for free commercials to promote her favorite charitable causes, Angel answers calls and gives relationship advice on a Friday night radio program.

Alexander Avery is a gorgeous and successful corporate genius who doesn’t believe in love. When his girlfriend-of-convenience calls into Angel’s program, he is furious with the show’s host who doles out (what he considers) blind advice, without knowing all the facts… and he decides to give her a piece of his mind, and his side of the story!

When Angel informs Alex he’s the one in need of a much-deserved lesson, all hell breaks loose as these two type-A personalities battle it out for control over minds and hearts, and yes, in bed. Not only are they fighting each other at every turn, but they are also struggling to uphold the convictions they each live by.

It’s unclear who is stronger, but both must discover that to get what they desperately want, they may have to give a little… or a lot.

Shredded by Tracy Wolff

Published January 19, 2014 by bookbesties

Shredded (Extreme Risk, #1)

A hot tattooed, bad-boy snowboarder? Um, yes please sign me up! I have read just about every book you can think of about a bad boy, rocker, biker, caged fighter, computer genies, you name it. But I have never read about a snowboarder, which is why when I came across this one, I jumped at the chance to read it.

Z Michele’s is an a self-proclaimed adrenaline junkie, world-class athlete and Olympic contender extraordinaire. But he could care less about any of that, coasting through life living off of women, booze and boarding, that’s the only way he knows how to survive, how to cope with the life he has been dealt after his world was turned upside down at the age of ten.

Ophelia is trying to escape a past that nearly killed her. When she meets Z, she sees all the signs of her past in him but something draws her to him, can they both fix each other are they too shredded?

Right away the writing style that Tracy hits you with is so descriptive it paints a great mental image for the reader.

“…And his abs. Omigod, his abs are a work of art. Forget six-pack. This guy has an eight-working-on-ten-pack, and for second-just a second- my eyes nearly cross as I imagine what it would be like to lick a path straight from his collarbone to his naval.”

I found myself emphasizing more in this case with Z(the male) then Ophelia(the female), because as awful as it was what happened to Ophelia, if anything like what happened to Z had happened to me, it would have crushed me so hard I would have been dust! I totally understood why he did all the things that he did and was not remotely mad at him for them, even if that was the intention and the direction the story was supposed to go. But I think that having the story in BOTH Z’s and Ophelia’s POV helped.

I should have read more books about hot badass snowboarders if I had known that they were put-a-hole-in-my-kindle-HOT! The scenes between z and Ophelia are filled with passion, not just sex, it makes it all the more better (for visualizing) when reading it.

I loved their story and the ending for them was great, I also loved how it explosively led into the next book in the series! I cannot wait to see how that one plays out!

This was  my first book by Tracy Wolff and from what I just read I will defiantly be reading the next in the Extreme Risk Novel’s.

Wrecked Cover

I had been seeing this cover art around for a while and read a brief description of it and thought it sounded promising so when the chance came to do a blog tour of it, I jumped at the chance. A man and a women being ‘just friends’.

I had very mixed feeling about this book because for one it was  longer than I was used to and while it had a lot of detail that I would normally like and some mystery as to the action of the MC’s, it still left me wanting more. I did not know that going into this there would be another book in series. I was almost done with it and realized that a big part was not resolved and then I knew. I did love the chemistry between the two MC’s, and the build up lading into the two’s love. Some people have an issue with the long-awaited love, but I FLOVE it and I loved this one and  Hunter was in a word, sizzling! I mean he was a MMA fighter but flawed and Lorrie is swearing off love. Now with that being said, let’s get to the other stuff. The things that bothered me the most about the book was the repetitiveness of how she would absolutely not date hunter under no circumstances what so ever! OK, I get that Lorrie didn’t want a relationship, I mean she pretty much stated it in EVERY sentence and if I had been Hunter I would have duced out a long time ago with the way she was emphasizing how much  she wasn’t going to sleep with him.

I get that she was flawed and that she was not looking for love, he himself had given up on the thought and was just friends until they weren’t. I did like how they didn’t just seem to fall in love at the snap of a hat and it took a while, like a W H I L E and that was realistic. The other things that got to me where the similarities to another book that I had read and fell in love with; and maybe if I hadn’t read that one first, then I would have loved this one as well.  I liked it, it was just I had heard the story before.

The Problem With Crazy by Lauren K McKeller Cover Reveal+Giveaway!

Published January 16, 2014 by bookbesties

I have been hearing about this book for a while now and the synopsis had me hooked, so when I got the chance to reveal the cover, I jumped at it!

The problem with crazy is that crazy, by itself, has no context. It can be good crazy, bad crazy . . . or crazy crazy—like it was when my ex-boyfriend sung about me on the radio.

Eighteen-year-old Kate couldn’t be more excited about finishing high school and spending the summer on tour with her boyfriend’s band. Her dad showing up drunk at graduation, however, is not exactly kicking things off on the right foot—and that’s before she finds out about his mystery illness, certain to end in death.

A mystery illness she is likely to inherit.

When your whole life goes from adventure and ecstasy to sad and suicidal, what’s the point? Not knowing who to love, and who to trust . . . where does it end?

The Problem With Crazy is a story about love and life; about overcoming obstacles, choosing to trust, and learning how to make the choices that will change your life forever.

*A portion of sales from this book will be donated to a Huntington’s disease-related charity (details TBC)

the thing about crazy Teaser 1 (2)

Excerpt:

“Nice ass,” a deep voice said. I jumped and quickly straightened up. Heat rushed to my cheeks as my head spun from left to right, trying to identify where the noise had come from.

“Sorry,” the voice came again, only this time I identified its source. A guy stepped out from behind the tree, lit cigarette in hand. He was tall, about six foot, with floppy brown hair, olive-toned skin and chocolate-coloured eyes, a tiny freckle marring his right cheek. A small smile was twisted on his lips, showcasing a dimple that made something twinge inside of me.

“You can’t do that.” I frowned.

“If you’re going to bend over in my presence I’m not allowed to compliment you?” The guy stepped forward, closer to me.

“I was stretching,” I shot him what I hoped was a withering look. “And you were hiding behind a tree.”

“I was relaxing behind a tree.” He stepped closer again and I saw the light dancing in his eyes. “But I do realise I might have come across a little sleazy. I meant it as a compliment. You have a great ass. Much better than some of the others I’ve seen around here.”

“You do this all the time?”

“Depends on what you mean by ‘this’.”

“Stand behind trees, and check out peoples asses.”

And now…The Cover.

Cyrus by MJ Feilds Blog Tour

~Cyrus~

Truth
I know who I am. I’m Cyrus Steel, son, brother, uncle, friend to people I choose to bring into my life.
Truth
I could fuck up anyone I want.
Truth
I know the devastation I can and have caused.
Truth
I can’t change the past, but I have chosen how to live now.
Truth
I like to fuck, and I will do a chick better than she’s ever been done. Hard and wild. No more than three hook ups. No expectations, no one gets hurt. As long as she agrees …it’s on.
One of my favorite tattoo’s bridges the V, and it says Truth.
A constant reminder of who I was and who I am now.

~Tara~
I wasn’t sure I knew how or even if I should tell him there was no one who loved me. Tony was the last person to say those words to me and he hadn’t meant it. He just wanted to use me.
That’s what this beautiful man underneath me, showed me today. He hadn’t used me, he didn’t even know me. But he thought I was beautiful, and he was nice to me. Tony was wrong about him, and even though I never want to see him again, I wish I could tell him just how wrong he was.
Can truth be altered? Can truth be seen when walls are built for protection, for self preservation? Will self doubt and years of pain cloud two hearts from finding their truth?

cyrus-menofsteelcyrus-menofsteel-full

I was first introduced to MJ Felids  with the book Men of Steel,  and Jase, the start of Jase Steel and his love, Carly and although you don’t have to read the those books to read Cyrus, it helps.  Cyrus is the older brother of Jase and is described in the Jase’s book as looking like ‘The Terminator’, and right then I knew I wanted to read his book. Cyrus is a BEAST in size and personality.

Cyrus is a ‘take care of shit now guy’, and as hard as they came. With having been in the Navy and had several tours under his belt before coming to work in his families tattoo shop, Forever Steel. He’s a no-nonsense guy and they type of guy who is not into his feelings, especially when it comes to a women. He has his three-time ‘wild ride’ limit and that’s it.

“I have rules; I’ll fuck you better than you’ve ever been fucked before, hard and wild. No more than three hook ups, understand?”

Then in walks Tara, a friend of his brother’s girlfriend and also a reluctant stripper thanks to her greasy ass boyfriend.  All her life she has been shuffled back and forth between people who don’t want her until she found and stuck with her boyfriend who really just wanted to exploit her.  Cyrus see’s something in her that he must save and sets out in doing so, and hey if he happens to get his three rides then so be it. Until he decides its better they remain friends. But can they?

I found that I liked this one as much, if not more than Carly and Jase’s story.  If I thought that Carly and Jase had amazing chemistry, Cyrus and Tara blew my mind!  As will her other book, this one was also written in dual POV’s   and MJ Fields has a way of writing from the guys POV really well, I absolutely loved reading from Cyrus’s POV, he was so gritty and real.  I did have a hard time following the dialogue when more than two people got to talking in a scene, as it wasn’t really clarified who was talking to who.  The ending was great and exactly what I was hoping for, I love when i see a character change(a little) but still remain who they are.  And again while you don’t need to read the other’s in the series as, it’s nice to get the back story on them all. MJ Fields is a name to watch out for and I can’t wait to read about the rest of the Steel brothers, and I hope the next one is Zandor.

About the Author

MJ Fields:

mjfields

I am a very new self published writer. I will tell you I have always had a very vivid imagination. Starting at age 3 (as it states in my Baby Book).
Sigma was my very first love (imaginary boyfriend). He lived about fifteen miles from my childhood home, (a farm). I took him chicken noodle soup every night on one of our families snowmobiles, (Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring). Apparently he was very ill and “Thank God” I was able to take care of him.
Next was my very first self publishing gig. At eight my cousins and I (and yes I was the president) wrote a newsletter and sold it to our family members.
Years later I decided to put it back into print to entertain my cousin as she was on an aircraft carrier on 9/11 (Kick ass cousin BTW) and very far away from home during a very scary time for our country, (protecting our butts).
Fast forward to 2012. I read 50 shades and thought, I can do that, (meaning writing). I have two complete series The Love Series, and Wrapped. I have two new series Burning Souls and Men of Steel. Ten books in 13 months. CrAzY and wonderful.
I love love! ( I would love to reference Pinks new song here, however I am not sure if that would cause copyright issues.)I also tend to enjoy watching people grow and change with self realization and moments of clarity that just sneak up behind you and smack you in the head. I love people and have always been able to see both sides of a story. Each person that comes into our life leaves us with something it is what we choose to do with it that helps us grow.

I live in central New York in the middle of nowhere and am surrounded by family and friend most the time. I run a small business out of my home and spend time reading and doing the typical Mommy things. Our house is full of pets and friends and noise ninety percent of the time, and I would have it no other way.
I love people, music, laughter, hugs, and books.

SYNOPSIS

Ryan Kendall is broken. He understands pain. He knows the hand of violence and the ache of loss. He knows what it means to fail those who need you. Being broken doesn’t stop him wanting the one thing he can’t have; Finlay Tanner. Her smile is sweet and her future bright. She’s the girl he grew up with, the girl he loves, the girl he protects from the world, and from himself.

At nineteen, Ryan leaves to join the Australian Army. After years of training he becomes an elite SAS soldier and deploys to the Afghanistan war. His patrol undertakes the most dangerous missions a soldier can face. But no matter how far he runs, or how hard he fights, his need for Finlay won’t let go.

Returning home after six years, one look is all it takes to know he can’t live without her. But sometimes love isn’t enough to heal what hurts. Sometimes people like him can’t be fixed, and sometimes people like Finlay deserve more than what’s left.

This is a story about war and the cost of sacrifice. Where bonds are formed, and friendships found. Where those who are strong, fall hard. Where love is let go, heartache is born, and heroes are made. Where one man learns that the hardest fight of all, is the fight to save himself.

Tainted Desires by Wendi Hulsey

Published January 13, 2014 by bookbesties

I was not a fan of this cover art when I first saw it but I am a firm believer in ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’ so I gave it a shot. I thought the synopsis had promise so I was all for it.

Kylie Jenkins has lived the past few years fearing for her life. She knows she must do whatever it takes to escape her current situation. With each assault, the injuries she sustains are more severe. She calls upon her childhood friends to help her escape, however it means moving away from everything she loves. Without knowing if she will ever see her family or friends again, she takes off in hopes of a new beginning. Her entire world is turned upside down until she is reunited with her childhood love and things start to look up. Cameron is the type of man she wants to spend her life with, he is fun, sensitive, considerate, and sexy.

Unfortunately, for Kylie, her dangerous past seems to be sneaking up on her. Strange things start happening to her, making her feel apprehensive and afraid. Her friends assure her that she is safe, but they start to think Kylie might be a bit paranoid. Will Kylie finally have her storybook romance? Or will her love and desire for Cameron be tainted from the start?

First off I loved the face that this is  a story of ‘puppy love’ turned into adult love, you hear about it all the time and I love for one am a fan of it. Not the ‘I grew up with you down the street we dated in high school love’ either. This love is they both moved on and dated gotten into other relationships with other people and found their way back to each other. The chemistry between Kylie and Cameron is super Nova, I really had to put down the Kindle it got so hot! But I I quickly picked it right back up! I had just got finished reading a story similar to this, but I thought Wendi told this one much better and it flowed for me, the only problem I had that gave me pause was how quickly K ends up with C. It’s no secret she was with an abusive man for a while and for me that would give me great pause and not jump so readily into a relationship again. That was the only non believable thing about the story line and that’s just me. because I had JUST read one similar to this one some of this seemed familiar and predictable BUT again, told much better for that reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. I thought it was great and I wish I had read this one first.

The Author

My name is Wendi Hulsey. I was born and raised in Racine, Wisconsin, just south of Milwaukee. After several vacations to the sunshine state, my husband and I fell in love with the warm weather and decided to have a house built in Florida. I miss my family and friends up north; however, I will never regret not having to shovel snow again. I have been a registered nurse for about ten years. I currently work on a medical/surgical unit, preferring to work the night shift.

My husband and I have been married for sixteen years, and I appreciate his support during this endeavor. I have one son who is a hard working grown man now living on his own. He has blessed me with the most precious grandson and a wonderful future daughter in law. My daughter is a beautiful and smart teenager who excels at just about anything she tries. She enjoys playing soccer and we have spent numerous hours on various soccer fields. I am blessed to have my mother, a retired cook, living with me and she is a great help with cooking, cleaning, and chauffeuring the teenager. Other members of our family include; one dog, one cat, two turtles and several fish.

My love for reading began at the age of twelve on a stormy day. With nothing to do I was bugging my mother, she said, “Go read a book.” I have never stopped. As a teenager, I preferred horror books, mainly Stephen King. As I age, my reading tastes change and I currently read mysteries, romance, or erotica. It has always been my dream to write a book. Although writing is a hobby for me, I hope to produce a book to the best of my abilities and hope you have enjoyed what you read. Thank you for your support.

Favorite band and / or favorite song?

I love classic rock, and it’s super hard to pick out one band, forget one song, so I’ll go with my current favorite: Imagine Dragons.

How do you come up with your book ideas?

Usually a character just pops into my head and starts telling me a story, but sometimes it’s a song lyric, or something I overhear someone say, or a line from a TV show or movie.

What’s the best prank you’ve ever played on someone?

Me and my high school lab partner in chemistry went out of our way to blow stuff up, so we broke a lot of beakers and test tubes over the course of the year. Our teacher gave us a bill at the end of the year for something like forty bucks…so we brought it all in loose pennies and dumped them on her desk.

What’s your fascination with cops and detectives?

There is just something innately alpha about them. They don’t take any crap, and there are lines that they can never cross.

What’s the thing you love most about Needing Her?

Getting to revisit some of my favorite characters and give them the happy ending they deserve.
