**This is book 1 in the Logan & Kayla Saga–a second-chance romance. You don’t need to read any of the other Checkmate series to enjoy this one, but is always recommended as they are both introduced in the earlier books.**

Every part of my body is on fire, fueled by the electricity between Logan and me as his lips glide across the softness of mine. The low hum in my stomach aches when he pulls us apart, and I fight the urge to press my lips back to his.

His lips are red and swollen, probably just like mine are right now. I don’t know what got into him, but Logan and I have never, ever kissed before. Hell, we’ve slow danced before at weddings, but nothing this intimate—ever.

“I think that did the trick,” he finally says, catching his breath. Fred left over two minutes ago.

“Yeah, I think so.” I take a small step back, trying to act unaffected, but the hard beating in my chest gives me away. I know he feels it, too. I just don’t understand why he pretends he doesn’t. “Thanks for your help,” I say, breaking the tension.

“Anytime. It was fun watching him sweat.” He grins, rocking back and forth on his feet, gripping the coffee cup tight in his hand. He’s just as nervous as I am.

“Don’t you get enough of that at work?” I tease.

“You do have some sick fetish for that, don’t you?”

“What are you doing on a dating website anyway?” he asks after I grab another cup of coffee and sit across from him at the table.

His brows lift. “What kind of people are you hanging out with?”

I sigh. “This city literally has no available, decent, single men. I might as well just move to another planet. Like Pluto. Get as far away from here as possible.”

“Actually, Pluto isn’t a planet anymore,” he tells me matter-of-factly.

I blink, unamused. “Great. I can’t escape this damn city.”

He chuckles, and I only slightly hate that he finds my pathetic dating life entertaining. “You’re still young. No need to panic until you’re like…thirty.”

I grab a piece of his pastry and throw it at him. “You suck.” I scowl. “I’m twenty-six, which means I’m almost thirty, and almost thirty means I should be with the guy I’m planning on marrying. Otherwise, I’ll be forty, my looks will be gone, my boobs will have fallen to my feet, and I’ll have gray hair,” I ramble, knowing I’m over exaggerating, but right now it feels true. Every date is a disaster. More than the last.

My first thoughts reading the Title I was a bit thrown on how much of a romance story this would be, but don’t judge a book by its cover and all right? So I went in and I was hoping that it would not be cheesy. I can ensure you that the book was nothing of what I expected!! The story starts out introducing Mac short for Mackenzie who has come back to her old home town after 7 yrs because her best friend is getting married and she is looking forward to seeing her friends but worried about facing past failures! Meet Gavin the bride’s little brother and who is a veterinarian and has grown Up! Not only does Mac have to face the town that she left abruptly after being stood up at the altar but when she sees Gavin again after 7 yrs well let’s just say that the stars and the bed of his truck was a lovely memory. The chemistry is hot between these two and it’s fun to see the war in Mac as she tries to fight how she feels! I was rooting for her to get past her issues and give Gavin a try! All around the supporting characters are awesome and hilarious! Wonderfully written and such a sweet romance! Great, great read!

This story was a fun read.  The characters were easy to fall in love with and root for.  I love how the author used the societal expectations of the era to push the main characters together all the while giving them the opportunity to show their depth of character, in what would have been devastating circumstances.  I love how the author adds humor throughout the story by showcasing some of the more shallow, narrow-minded aspects of Victorian English society such as how quickly and easily “life” altering scandals could be created and believed (no matter how outlandish the scandal) with no proof to back up the accusations.

  The only thing I didn’t really like about this book was the way the author rushed through the ending.  The last chapter felt like I was reading the Cliff’s Note version of the book while yes it got the point across I feel it was somewhat of a letdown after how well the rest of the book had been laid out.

All in all I would read this book again, But with the ending as it is I don’t think I would buy it to add to my collection.

I walk through the wide-open space that Honey uses to shoot her Desert Babies portraits. Families come from all over Texas for her distinctive photos that feature babies in the desert environment that surrounds Marfa. In the office, I find Honey seated at her desk, feet up and keyboard on her lap. “Thank goodness it’s just you. I’m so comfortable, and that’s a rare thing these days.”

Honey’s pregnant belly seems to get bigger every day. “How is my nephew doing?” I drop into one of her visitor chairs.

She lays her hand over the baby bump. “I think he’s playing rugby today.”

“Ouch.”

“You said it. The feet to the ribs are my favorite.”

“Won’t be long now, Mama.”

“I can’t wait. Blake is so excited. He talks to him every night and tells him all the things he’s going to teach him.”

“It’s great to see him so happy.” During our senior year of high school, Blake was devastated by the loss of his girlfriend, Jordan, in a car that he was driving when a truck broadsided it. He’s never been the same, and only after he fell in love with Honey last year did he seem to recover somewhat. “Both of you deserve everything you’ve got now.”

Honey gives me an odd look. “What’s the matter?”

“Why would you ask me what’s wrong when I’m saying you and Blake deserve to be happy?”

“Because I know you, and as much as I appreciate that, I can tell when you’re upset about something.”

That’s the thing about meeting your best friends in kindergarten. No one knows you like they do. “I’m not upset… I’m anxious.”

“About?”

“I have a date with Garrett tonight. A real date, not the usual beer and wings.”

Honey lets out a giddy squeal and claps her hands. “It’s about freaking time!” She puts the keyboard on her desk and drops her feet to the floor so she can lean in for closer scrutiny. “What brought this on? We all assumed you guys decided to just stay friends.”

“We did. We had. We… Well, it’s complicated.”

“How so?”

I bite my lip while trying to decide how much to tell my best friend, who is also Garrett’s good friend. “We sort of had sex six months ago.”

Honey stares at me, eyes agog. “How can you sort of have sex?”

“We did it, but it was weird and awkward and well… not good.”

“Ohhhh.” Honey taps her bottom lip. “This is extremely surprising in light of his… well…”

“Reputation?”

Nodding, Honey says, “Supposedly, he’s somewhat of a… um…”

“God in bed?” Girls we knew growing up used to wax poetic about his skills even when we were still in high school. Garrett thinks we don’t know this, but Honey and I are well aware that more than one tourist has come to town for a roll in the sack with the guy known as the Sex God.

“Yes! So, what the hell went so wrong?”

“I have no idea. I’ve gone over it and over it in my mind a million times, but it never makes sense. I adore him, and vice versa. We’ve been hot for each other for ages. It should’ve been off the charts. Instead, it barely made the chart, and it brought back a lot of crap from when I was with Wayne and he would tell me I suck in bed.”

“Wayne is an asshole, and you do not suck in bed.”

“How do you know that?” I ask with a laugh.

“Because you’re gorgeous and sexy and any man would be lucky to have you in his bed.”

The fear that Wayne is right about me has been keeping me awake at night since the disaster with Garrett. Though I’m touched by Honey’s unwavering love for me, I go with sarcasm to hide my emotional response. “And you’re not even slightly impartial.”

“Not at all. It’s a well-known fact that men who suck in bed frequently make their partners feel responsible for their inadequacies. Clearly, Wayne passed off his own failings onto you, and you can’t let him get away with that.”

“Where did you hear this well-known fact?”

“Cosmo. Where else?”

Snorting with laughter, I say, “Of course. Where else, indeed.” I run my hands over the skirt of my dress as another thought occurs to me. “But what if Wayne was right and I do suck in bed? What if it was my fault that it went so badly with Garrett?”

“Lauren! Stop this! It wasn’t you. It was an off night. I can’t stand to see you doing this to yourself. If you believe that crap, then Wayne wins, and he can’t ever win. I won’t allow it.”

Honey’s fierce defense goes a long way toward making me feel better, but I won’t truly believe it wasn’t me until Garrett and I successfully close the deal.

I  enjoy a good sports romance book very much and this one was right up my alley and a great read! I had already read the other books in the series even though you won’t be that lost if you don’t read the others. Mike is a single father and Lauren is the one that made him happy but life got in the way. The romance is sweet if not at times frustrating but the story pulls at the heartstrings. The path for these two goes through different obstacles that will have you hoping desperately for it to all payoff in the end.  Very much enjoyed this story and can’t wait for what’s next from Sarina!

I loved Rules of Contact by the same author and loved the writing style, and I do love second chance romance books. I felt like this was a must read for me. Loretta is back home after a bad relationship and now her ex is working right next door! I enjoyed the book for the most part as I was a little against Loretta at first. Loretta has a daughter who softens Deacon heart and It was sweet to see her and Deacon’s interactions. The story ended well for me but Loretta frustrated me at times with her choices, but I did wind up liking her by the end. I was a Team Deacon from the start though all the way!
Great read and one, that I will re-read again!

Lately, I have been reading a lot of HR that has left me kinda wanting more and I’m happy to say that Marry in Haste was not one of those books!

This book was sooo good! THIS, This story is why I love Historical Romance so much!   I truly couldn’t put it down and have started re-reading it! I adore the characters and the story of their relationship.   I love how even though I was expecting certain things to happen in the story, because at some point reading HR things can get predictive, but the author blew that out of the water without being completely predictable.  It was fresh and fun and  I can’t wait to get the printed version of this book and add it to my personal library!

This was a very good book.  I really appreciated finding out who the characters truly were and how it played in to the dynamic of their relationship.  I don’t normally care if everyone (including minor characters) gets a happy ending if the ending fits the characters and their story, so I was very surprised and pleased that this author made it happen for all the characters in a way that didn’t make it obvious that she adjusted the story line right at the end of the book to make it happen.  This is a book I look forward to reading again and adding to my collection.
