Paris For One and Other Stories By JoJo Moyes(Review Post)

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Me Before You and After YouParis for One and Other Stories is an irresistibly romantic collection filled with humor and heart.

“A vicarious jolt of Parisian romance. . . Delightful.” –People Magazine

“An old-fashioned, feel-good love story. . . It’s as if Moyes has booked a vacation and is taking us along. To Paris. Amour!” –USA Today

“Dreamy escapism, a book you can curl up with and easily finish over a weekend, with or without a glass of wine.” –Miami Herald

Nell is twenty-six and has never been to Paris. She’s never even been on a romantic weekend away—to anywhere—before. Traveling abroad isn’t really her thing. But when Nell’s boyfriend fails to show up for their mini-vacation, she has the opportunity to prove everyone—including herself—wrong.  Alone in Paris, Nell finds a version of herself she never knew existed: independent and intrepid. Could this turn out to be the most adventurous weekend of her life? Funny, charming, and irresistible, Paris for One is quintessential Jojo Moyes—as are the other stories that round out the collection.

When I first heard of JoJo Moyes I knew her from Me Before You and Me After You, even though I had actually never read either books It was on my list. So when the chance arose to read another one of her stories, I jumped on it.

We meet Nell, or nervous, over cautious Nell who I like to call, who convinced herself that it was a good idea to ditch her girlfriends week and go to Paris with her fickle, no worries boyfriend Pete. Pete being the loser he is, stands her up and doesn’t tell her until she is all ready in Paris, alone!

Now on top of being alone in Paris and scared, she has to share a hotel room with an crabby American woman. Nell is all for catching the next plane home, but things don’t work out like that. Nell slowly comes out of her shell and finds her way to Fabien who is an aspiring writer  by night and a waiter by day in a local french cafe who is still pining for his ex that left him. The two meet and it isn’t until some left tickets for an art show from the crabby American that the two meet again.

This story was made me want to drop everything and book a trip to Paris on the hopes that I got to experience all that Nell did! The city of romance is right and this story was quaint and magical and sweet.

So much so that i obtained the audio version(because I love English accents) and listened to it as well, before writing my final review. And I have to say, I loved it even better.

Elizabeth’s Wolf(ARC Review)

Published December 9, 2017 by bookbesties

Special-Forces solider Dash has all but given up his will to live until an innocent letter from a little girl brings him back to life. Cassie writes to him every week, strengthening his resolve to recover from the devastating loss of his unit. But when the letters suddenly stop arriving, Dash instinctively knows Cassie and her mother are in critical danger.

Elizabeth and her daughter are on the run from a dark and bloody past that refuses to let them go. The stakes are too high for her to fall for this dangerous man who’s just walked into her life, but now more than ever she needs help.

Saving his mate and her daughter calls Dash’s beast to the forefront and transforms the lone wolf into an alpha protector—he becomes Elizabeth’s wolf.

When I first saw this story i thought it was interesting even though I had never read this author before or the series.

The beginning I found to a little slow with getting to the back story with there essentially being two stories, Cassie and Dash. Cassie and her mother are on the run from the man that killed her father and want Cassie because she witnessed it. Trying to bring normalcy to her daughter’s life on the run Elizabeth enrolls Cassie in school for a brief time, where Cassie’s class pick soldiers to become pen pals with. She picks Dash’s name because his name sounds like a ‘good daddy’s name’ and from the moment Dash’s sergeant reads him the letter, because Dash was in a comma at the time, he knew he had to help Cassie and her mother.

Not sure if Dash was in the other Crossbreed novels but it was semi vague about what happened to him. It wasn’t until later when he is explaining his story to Elizabeth that we(I) get the full story. After the two finally meet then the story starts getting interesting.

The truth behind Elizabeth, Cassie and Dash all unfolds in this action packed novel and to say i loved how the story unfolded would be an understatement. I was enthralled with it and couldn’t put it down, and for a ne having come into this world on like, the 15th novel is something! It can totally be read as a stand alone, but I’m guessing it would be a better reading experience if you followed the other stories, which I am totally going to do.

The chemistry I have to say is lava, Dash is as Alpha as you’d expect him to be and is not afraid to show it, but Elizabeth is a strong female and by no means a pushover despite what she has been through. The story I found dragged a bit, but that’s not It to say that it didn’t hold my attention. It was appropriately evened out with action and sexy time, but a lot of inner dialogue.

All in all I enjoyed the story and will be reading the next book about.

The City Baker’s Guide to Country Living: A Novel

Published December 8, 2017 by bookbesties

515wGpfQ-nL (1)

A full-hearted novel about a big-city baker who discovers the true meaning of home—and that sometimes the best things are found when you didn’t even know you were looking

When Olivia Rawlings—pastry chef extraordinaire for an exclusive Boston dinner club—sets not just her flambéed dessert but the entire building alight, she escapes to the most comforting place she can think of—the idyllic town of Guthrie, Vermont, home of Bag Balm, the country’s longest-running contra dance, and her best friend Hannah. But the getaway turns into something more lasting when Margaret Hurley, the cantankerous, sweater-set-wearing owner of the Sugar Maple Inn, offers Livvy a job. Broke and knowing that her days at the club are numbered, Livvy accepts.

Livvy moves with her larger-than-life, uberenthusiastic dog, Salty, into a sugarhouse on the inn’s property and begins creating her mouthwatering desserts for the residents of Guthrie. She soon uncovers the real reason she has been hired—to help Margaret reclaim the inn’s blue ribbon status at the annual county fair apple pie contest.

With the joys of a fragrant kitchen, the sound of banjos and fiddles being tuned in a barn, and the crisp scent of the orchard just outside the front door, Livvy soon finds herself immersed in small town life. And when she meets Martin McCracken, the Guthrie native who has returned from Seattle to tend his ailing father, Livvy  comes to understand that she may not be as alone in this world as she once thought.

But then another new arrival takes the community by surprise, and Livvy must decide whether to do what she does best and flee—or stay and finally discover what it means to belong. Olivia Rawlings may finally find out that the life you want may not be the one you expected—it could be even better.

This book was so sweet!!  This isn’t my normal reading genera of historical romance, but I figured I would give it a try anyway and I am so glad I did.  I adored how even though she has spent most of her life in big cities the main character has country roots and by getting back to those roots that she is able to find her place in the world.  This book made me wish I was reading it snuggled up in front of a fire.  It was a joy to read that I couldn’t put down!  And I truly can’t wait to try the Blue-Ribbon Apple Pie recipe that is at the end of the book!

Dangerously Divine(Review Post)

The Riders: Three immortal brothers who kept the Baba Yagas safe, now stripped of their summons to protect. But fate is not finished with them—and their new callings are even more powerful…

Though his physical wounds have healed, Gregori Sun, the eldest of the Riders, remains in spiritual turmoil. His search for his mother, the one person able to heal his soul and save his life, is failing—until he crosses paths with a beautiful and fascinating librarian who might be the key to his salvation…

Ciera Evans’s bookish ways are just a guise. The product of a difficult past, she has dedicated her life to saving lost teens—by any means necessary. She works alone, but when a dark, brooding stranger proposes they team up to solve both their problems, she is tempted—in more ways than one…

After Ciera and Sun’s plans are derailed by dangerous enemies, they find themselves entangled in an ungodly affair—one that will force them to either find new strength together or be forever haunted by their pasts alone.

In completion of this insert into the Baba Yaga world, I love this book as much as all the other I have had the pleasure of completing in this series.  Gregori Sun definitely gave off the “monk” aura throughout the book, but he still rode his Ducatti steed around.  I always picture the Riders transportations to have personalities similar to the Chudo Yudos and would love to see that come about in some way in a future book.

Ciera Evans is an amazing female character.  I enjoy rooting for a female main character that isn’t some weakling “help me brave sir” type and does for herself.  She overcomes a lot and is unquestioningly a character to look up to and emulate.

thank you Deborah Blake for this series.

Wrong to Need You: Forbidden Hearts(ARC REVIEW)

OUT 11/28!!

Alisha Rai returns with the second novel in her sizzling Forbidden Hearts series!

He wasn’t supposed to fall in love with his brother’s widow…

Accused of a crime he didn’t commit, Jackson Kane fled his home, his name, and his family. Ten years later, he’s come back to town: older, wiser, richer, tougher—and still helpless to turn away the one woman he could never stop loving, even after she married his brother.

Sadia Ahmed can’t deal with the feelings her mysterious former brother-in-law stirs, but she also can’t turn down his offer of help with the cafe she’s inherited. While he heats up her kitchen, she slowly discovers that the boy she adored has grown into a man she’s simply unable to resist.

An affair is unthinkable, but their desire is undeniable. As secrets and lies are stripped away, Sadia and Jackson must decide if they’re strong enough to face the past…and step into a future together.

In this book you have Sadia who a year ago lost her husband and is now trying to keep her business going and trying to take care of her kid. Jackson is back in town just long enough to check up on his sister, except he sees Sadia and he tries to stay a bit longer to help her till she finds a new chef. At least that is what he tells himself. He has always loved Sadia and would do anything for her. Did I mention that Sadia is his brothers widow? As lust comes to light along with secrets from the past come to light. I felt that the relationship was a bit messy and unnecessary drama between the two. It was nice to see her best friend Livvy(from the previous book in this series) make an appearance. All in all it was an okay read, but not for me.

Some One to Wed by Mary Balogh(Historical Rom Review)

A very practical marriage makes Alexander Westcott question his heart in the latest Regency romance from the New York Times bestselling author of Someone to Hold.

When Alexander Westcott becomes the new Earl of Riverdale, he inherits a title he never wanted and a failing country estate he can’t afford. But he fully intends to do everything in his power to undo years of neglect and give the people who depend on him a better life. . . .

A recluse for more than twenty years, Wren Heyden wants one thing out of life: marriage. With her vast fortune, she sets her sights on buying a husband. But when she makes the desperate—and oh-so-dashing—earl a startlingly unexpected proposal, Alex will only agree to a proper courtship, hoping for at least friendship and respect to develop between them. He is totally unprepared for the desire that overwhelms him when Wren finally lifts the veils that hide the secrets of her past. . . .

This is the second book by this author that I have read and as luck would have it the second book in the series.  While I found the first book somewhat tedious to read due to what I felt like was a lot of filler and “fluff” this book had no such issue.  This book was a smooth read and every time I put it down I found myself eager to pick it right back up again.  The leading lady in this book is by far one of my favorite literary leading characters to date.  The depth of her personality artfully written by the author had me genuinely cheering for her from start to finish.  I truly enjoyed this book and am so glad that I have been able to form a new, better opinion of this Author and an now looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Wilde in Love: The Wildes of Lindow Castle(REVIEW POST)

Published October 31, 2017 by bookbesties

One of Cosmopolitan’s Best Books of 2017!

Lord Alaric Wilde, son of the Duke of Lindow, is the most celebrated man in England, revered for his dangerous adventures and rakish good looks. Arriving home from years abroad, he has no idea of his own celebrity until his boat is met by mobs of screaming ladies. Alaric escapes to his father’s castle, but just as he grasps that he’s not only famous but notorious, he encounters the very private, very witty, Miss Willa Ffynche.

Willa presents the façade of a serene young lady to the world. Her love of books and bawdy jokes is purely for the delight of her intimate friends. She wants nothing to do with a man whose private life is splashed over every newspaper.

Alaric has never met a woman he wanted for his own . . . until he meets Willa. He’s never lost a battle.

But a spirited woman like Willa isn’t going to make it easy. . . .

The first book in Eloisa James’s dazzling new series set in the Georgian period glows with her trademark wit and sexy charm—and introduces a large, eccentric family. Readers will love the Wildes of Lindow Castle!

Run Read Alert!!!!  I couldn’t put this book down.  I love how this book flips the script and makes it so that drama and the potential for scandal follows the hero rather than like most H.R. books where it tends to find the heroine.  I love watching the hero convince the heroine that even though due to his fame he is not the husband she would choose for herself that he is in fact the husband she can not live with out.  I love how this couple is faced with and overcomes life and death situations rather than the trivial scandals that we find in many H.R. stories.  This book was such a fun read and I can’t wait to read more from this author.
