Obsessed by Ted Dekker

Published July 19, 2013 by bookbesties

Imagine finding the Greatest Treasure in the World? What would you do with it? What you do to find it? This is what we deal with in the Amazing Novel by Ted Dekker called Obsessed.

In this book we find Stephen Friedman, successful Realtor, a Jewish immigrant and an orphan who had tried to find out who his parents were for a long time and at last gave up. But Stephen is the one who gets caught up in an obsession that is much bigger than he anticipates. It all begins with an  unexpected letter from a friend and a newspaper article. Stephen discovers that his mother was a woman named Rachel, a woman who had been through the nightmare of World War II concentration camps, and recently died. Stephen also learns that she was quite wealthy and had some property. Can you say  JACKPOT BABY, let’s make it rain.

His mother also left behind  a priceless historical artifact – a stone of David, one of the five stones believed to be used by David to defeat the giant Goliath. Also, it may be that she knew where the other four stones are.

Stephen becomes obsessed with the idea to find the remaining stones. Bring on the search and the adventure ahead! He goes to his  mother’s old house, where he believes the clues are hidden. However, the house is bought by someone else, snatched right out of Stephen’s hands (AIN’T THAT SOMETHING). The new owner is a German man named Roth, whose father  was the Nazi Commandant of the concentration camp, Torùn. Roth knows about the stones and about Stephen plans. And he also has plans of his own. It is so ON! Stephen’s quest to find the additional four stones introduces him to a much deeper obsession. For a time he unknowingly stakes his life on this adventure, but when the danger becomes clearer he must determine the value of his obsession to him.

The story goes on as Stephen makes one desperate attempt to get into his mother’s house after another. Roth’s thugs do their best to keep him away.  While all this happens we find another story-line that takes us back in time to the WWII camp, telling about two pregnant women, Ruth and Martha (Stephen’s mother) and their struggles with the ruthless commandant who kills on a whim and plays games with the prisoners by giving and taking away their hope. There is some mystery here, and although the two story-lines seem unconnected, they eventually come together.

Ted Dekker did it again! He took me off the couch and engulfed in this book for days! His contrast of positive and negative obsessions was illuminating. This book really makes you wonder about your current obsessions in your life. I Think the main thing I received from this book is make sure our desires are in the right place and that love is the greatest gift of them all.

Yea, that was all types of sentimental…I’m in a place, don’t judge!

First, I want to thank everyone who purchased, read, lived, liked and loved Losing Hope.  I just got word that it made the New York Time’s bestsellers list.  Seriously couldn’t be more excited and I’m hoping Abbi Glines takes advantage of the fact that I’m vacationing with her and she takes me out to celebrate by buying me a huge, expensive dinner.  Because friends do that for friends don’t they?  I think it would be great if y’all could all tweet her at @abbiglines and tell her she needs to take me out tonight to celebrate.  🙂  Haha.

For twenty-one-year-old Sydney, being in love with Kyler isn’t anything new. They’d been best friends ever since he pushed her down on the playground and she made him eat a mud pie. Somewhere over the years, she fell for him and fell hard. The big problem with that? Kyler puts the ‘man’ in man-whore. He’s never stayed with a girl longer than a few nights, and with it being their last year in college, Syd doesn’t want to risk their friendship by declaring her love.

Kyler has always put Syd on a pedestal that was too high for him to reach. To him, she’s perfect and she’s everything. But the feelings he has for her, he’s always hidden away or focused on any other female. After all, Kyler will always be the poor boy from the wrong side of tracks, and Syd will always be the one girl he can never have.

But when they’re stranded together at a posh ski resort due to a massive Nor’easter, there’s nothing stopping their red-hot feelings for each other from coming to the surface. Can their friendship survive the attraction? Better yet, can they survive at all? Because as the snow falls, someone is stalking them, and this ski trip may be a life-changer in more ways than one.

Fifth Grave Past the Light by Darynda Jones

Published July 15, 2013 by bookbesties

So if you have seen my Facebook or Twitter feed lately than you know I looooove everything Charley Davidson. She’s my first ever book girlfriend. (Don’t act like you guys don’t have them).  She is part Veronica Mars and maybe part Ghost Whisper, to an extent. You see Charley is a Grimm Reaper, THE Grimm Reaper to be exact and she also happens to date/ have relations with the Son of Satan, Reyes. Plus she has the worst case of ADD that I have seen, which just makes her more lovable in my book. If you have no idea who I’m talking about check out my review on the first grave book here. Anyone who is a fan know that just the titles of the chapters alone is enough to make you spit milk from your nose.

“I’m not 100 percent certain, but I think my cup of coffee just said, “You’re my bitch.”- Status update

“Whoever is in charge of making sure I don’t do stupid %hit is fired-T-SHIRT

Charley is back in her element doing what she loves, PI-ing (if that’s a word) and along with her assistant/ best-friend Cookie, she doing OK. A normal day for her  is coffee, then going to work and having someone try to kill her and she has to use her mad ass skills to save her life or her super hot  guy materialize and does it for her.  Being the Grimm Reaper she is used to seeing dead people everywhere she goes, so she thinks nothing of it when a departed little girl shows up under her bed, followed by another and another, totaling 27 departed women in her apartment. It’s like six sense all over.  The women appeared almost overnight and they all are scared and not talking and clearly in distress, Charley has never seen anything like it in her life.  Wanting to help these girls and also solve the mystery about  the arsonist burning up Albuquerque  and also trying to lay low so that Satan won’t send any more of his army after her, Charley has her hands full.  Her whit however, has not left her, and her ADD brain, Barbra is just as funny as ever.

“Yes! I’d nailed it!, I was an expert at nailing things. Ideas, two-by-fours, men with low self-esteem. If it could be nailed  I could nail it. I should probably change my name to the Nailer.”

I could not stop laughing out loud (sometimes snorting) to this book!

But with Charley comes Reyes, THE son of Satan and so much more. Reyes is as deadly as he is hot and he want’s one thing. Charley.  I loved flirtatious banter they had going on it throughout the whole book, it made me really fall in love with their relationship, Even though certain people seem to be hell-bent(pun intended) to keep them apart, Reyes and Charley could care less.  Reyes is also as cocky as he is the son of Satan.

“Hey, wait.” I said, puling back, “you are the son of Satan. Maybe we should have a safe word.” His grim morphed into something wickedly charming.”Okay, how about , ‘Oh my god it’s so big.’”

I loved with book and all it’s twist and turns, as usual there were 50 different things going on at once, and just like her ADD, everything was all over the place. The running mystery behind Reyes and Charley’s history and future is still ever-present and I loved that there was more Reyes in this book than the last, and man, was he swoon worthy.

“I want you Dutch, body and soul  I want you in my bed every night. I want you there when I wake up every morning. I want your clothes strung across my apartment and your sent on my skin.”

Yea that was all sorts of

I was glued to this book until I was done, which was in one day and my Charley crush was renewed. The knowledge that was dropped in this book had me going ‘ooooohhhhh, i get it’, I can’t wait for the next book and as always Darynda did an excellent job.

Hello beautiful people! So last week, This Man Confessed by Jodi Ellen Malpas was released and as soon as it landed on my Kindle I dived in and devoured every moment with The Lord. *cheeky grin* This book made me stay up the whole night. Yes the entire night, no sleep until the ray of sunlight peeks out from my window. I say that my slight *Jesse* induced headache in the morning was all worth it.

All the way from This Man to Beneath This Man I never thought I would love Jesse and his ways more than I have already loved him. His over possessive, bat shit crazy ways of showing how he cares for and loves Ava is over the top. He is swoon worthy, panty dropping, heart melting and gawd who wouldn’t love to choose between all his *variety of fucks*. I loved how the characters have…

White Trash Beautiful by Teresa Mummert + Giveaway!

Published July 5, 2013 by bookbesties

Ever since I read Safe Word by Teresa I have been wanting to read all her new stuff. White Trash Beautiful surprised me as first, it’s nothing like Safe Word and I think that’s refreshing as much as I LOVE the romance and yes, sex, I also like the wholesome, muted sex books as well. In WTB, we are introduced to Cass, who is the epitome of  what you would think of a person who is, well white trash. Trailer, check, mom hooked on drugs and missing father figure, check, abusive man in her life, double-check and to top it all off she works at a local craptastic diner to help support her mom and drug addict/ abusive boyfriend. She has had a rough life, and has an ever rougher attitude to boot.

Cass was fine, saving her money so she could get the hell out of her life in search of something better. That something better was Tucker White, lead singer and front-man of a rock band called Damaged. They form a short of friendship despite her attitude, that Cass knows is dangerous because of her crack head boyfriend, Jax.

Still there is something about him that draws her in, and Tucker feels the same way. This book was heart wrenching in so many ways, because not only did it deal with physical abuse, but also drug abuse and it made me feel so very sorry for Cass. Even though she tried to put up a protective shield with her attitude, she still just wanted someone to take care of her for a change. Tucker comes from a somewhat similar background and he wants to take her away from her crappy life, to take care of her.

“It’s not your problem.”

“I don’t have a choice, from the moment I saw you , I didn’t have a choice. You come off so strong and brave and it’s obvious you are hurting. Someone is hurting you and no one is there to protect you.”

Tucker is every bit the rock star, tattoos and all(of course tattoos) but has the biggest soft spot for one person. Cass.

The ending was the explosive mess that I knew it would be but also very gut wrenching, which I didn’t know it would be.  I can’t wait read White Trash damaged to find out the second half of the story and how they recover from such traumatic events!

Teresa Mummert did a wonderful job with this story, it’s not all rainbows and sunshine but then again, what life is?

You can pre-order the book here before it come’s out on the 9th of this month.

And because I loved the book soooooo very much, I’m going to give you a chance to sign  up to win paper back copy of the book before it’s out! Contest ends the 8th, one day before release date, so hurry and enter below!. (US RES ONLY)

It’s a lonely business trying to find out who you are, especially when you’re afraid you won’t like what you discover. No amount of drinking or dancing can chase away Kelsey’s loneliness, but maybe Jackson Hunt can. After a few chance meetings, he convinces her to take a journey of adventure instead of alcohol. Losing Hope by Colleen Hoover

Published June 30, 2013 by bookbesties

I was supa-dupa stoked when I found out she was doing another book from Holder’s POV, because Hopeless was my all time fav book of last year. Hands. Down.  You can check out my review  here. I love everything that Colleen writes and this was no exception, she has a way of drawing you into the MC world and being completely consumed by it, as well as her famous catch phrases! (Butterfly you and Live you).

I always like to know what’s going on in the other persons head and life, unlike This Girl (Slammed from Will’s POV) this one had so many new parts it was a different story all together.  I especially wanted to be inside of Holder’s head, because he was so hot and cold and off and on that it was hard to tell if he wasn’t insane!

If you haven’t read Hopeless than don’t read this review and go grab it now.

Losing Hope is basically Hopeless, but the straight to the point Holder’s version. It told what was going on in Holder’s life and it was just as much tragic as what was going on in Sky’s life. This story is more to the point, because it had already been told before. Now for those of you that think its the SAME story, stop thinking that, it’s not. While parts of the dialogue do overlap from Hopeless, it was so still a very different. Although there were less chapter breaks needed for this one, I still felt so bad for Holder and what he had to go through with the loss of Les, then learning the meaning  behind his tattoo, I wanted to cry for him.

There was a lot more use of the eff bomb being thrown around in this book than the first, but it was from a guys POV, and guys use the eff bomb like crazy and to me Holder was very angry in this book and angry people curse(this is my logic).  I was engrossed from minute one and couldn’t put it down. I loved certain scene in his eyes like the grocery store scene and the whole thing with her father, even though I knew what was going to happen it didn’t stop me from being on the edge of my seat. It was brilliant and funny and tragic all in one, which is the very best of a great Colleen Hoover story! I loved the letter’s to Les that gave us a recap of what was happening without  being too wordy.

“Dear Les,

Happy two-week deathiversary. Harsh? Maybe so but I’m not apologizing.”

And if you thought you couldn’t love Holder anymore than you did, you would be wrong. I was swooning over Holder all over again, forget about what he was saying to Sky, it was what was in his head that he didn’t’ say out loud that had me falling for him. All. Over. Again.

“Dear all dead people who aren’t Les, since I’m not writing letters to Les anymore, I’ve loved Hope since we were kids.

But tonight?

Tonight I fell in love with Sky.”

I also loved that we got to see what happened after all the ‘poo’ hit the fan in Hopeless and that even though life is messy and in this case all types of  effed up, it can still have a happy-ish ending.  I LIVED this book so very hard and you will too!

You want to get this book when it’s released which is July 8th, trust me!
