It’s no secret that I loved everything JLA and was deeply affected when the Covenant series came to an end. Imagine my reaction when I learned she was starting a shiny new series about none other than Gargoyles! Who else used to race home after school and watch Gargoyles religiously?!

Needless to say I was super pumped! I mean I always thought gargoyles were kinda cool and Jennifer mixed in hot demons AND hot gargoyle and Boom, EPIC beginning to what I can only guess (or know) will be an EPIC series!

Layla is half-breed, a mute if you will mixed with half demon and half warden, or gargoyles who was raised by the wardens and taught to suppress her demon side. As the very they hunt, she tries to fight her urges of eating souls, courtesy of her demon mother.  Layla can eat souls by the one thing every teenage girl longs to do; kissing. It’s the worst case of never been kissed in history, because her lips are like Rough from the X-men, one touch and BAM! No soul for you!

 Because Layla is a half warden, unable to mate with the other wardens therefore not needing as much protection, she is allowed to attend public school and hangs out with friends where she is also able to tag demons, her own kind, for the wardens to hunt. With her feeling for her best friend and the only person she is close to, Zayne getting stronger she knows that she will never be able to be truly be happy. Enter Roth, an upper level demon bent on hanging around her and making her life miserable in school. Things get pretty intense when Roth turns out to be nothing like she thought upper level demons were and with secrets being kept and lies being told from left to right this book kept me up into the wee hours of the morning.

I love how Jennifer’s stories as actually based off of lore/legends and I found myself googling the various demons and monsters mentioned throughout the book. It made me wonder how long she researched of if she even researched at all or if this was random knowledge that she already knew, if so that makes her THAT much more amazing!

The story starts off slow, laying the back story and quickly picks up into action, humor, and romance, hot romance(of the YA variety) and doesn’t stop until the last page, leaving you wanting more! I am in dire need of the next installment and have great expectations for the Dark Elements series, this is another hit for Jennifer! And I’m totally not just saying that because she is a Supernatural fan either!

I was super excited to be able to read Rogue because after her Remy books I was like, okay how can you possibly top HIM?! Well, she has!

Everyone met Brooke’s best friends Melanie in Real, Mine and Remy but we really get to know her in Rogue. All her life Melanie has searched for the one, you know the one who will sweep her off her feet and look at her the way Remy looks at Brooke. Only Melanie goes through guys like water hoping she will find him in one of the many one night stands she has. She portrays a perfect image, perfect to her family, her friends but inside she feels loveless and alone. Until one rainy night..

Enters Greyson ‘Zero’ King… Right off the bat his first sentence had my brain fluttering… he was just so viral and dirty (in a totally hot and good way) and I loved him so hard from the line…

“I’ve got my **ck buried inches deep in a mewling women’s ***t..”

Yup that’s Greyson, bad boy, literally who is his father’s enforcer on loans owed to the underground, the arena in which Remy fights in. To get back what’s most precious to him he agrees to compete a list for his father of people who owe him money.  He’s good at his job never-failing, never being seen and never getting distracted, until he meets Melanie.

“Who are you?” She asks me, Breathless and amazed.

“I’m the twisted version of your..Westley,” I say.

The chemistry when those two are together rivals Brooke and Remy’s on the stem-o-meter and speaking for myself,  I LOVE the dirty talking they do to each other, it made the sex scenes that much more…gratifying(?). When Melanie finds out Greyson’s big secret she has to make the biggest decision of her life and I was on the edge of my seat with that decision!

“He makes me want to slap him and **ck him.”

It was great seeing a glimpse of Brooke and Remy and the gang and see who their lives were going, but I have to say that I wanted to SLAP the pee out of Pandora, it makes me really ach for RAW(her story) to see why she is such a major WITCH! She was for lack of a better term, **ck blocking Mel and Greyson at every turn! It really sets up for her story.

To say that I was blown away by this story, especially after hearing the original story of what this story was supposed to be, would be an understatement. Katy’s writing just gets better and better with each bad/troubled man that she writes about! I’m super excited about Raw and looking to add another book boyfriend to ever-growing list.

First, let me say that I don’t know why I waited so long to read this book, I could kick myself for waiting.

Okay, now that that’s out of the way. I had so many feels on this book and I half listened to the audiobook and half read it.

This story is unlike any I have read, Tatum and Jared hate each other like it’s their Job, living next door to each other since Tatum was ten they were besties until high school and Jared started treating her like a leper, making all her three years of high school hell.

“I wouldn’t care if you lived or died.”

Jared is a piece of work, only talking to Tatum to tell her to either move out of his way or ask her what the *uck she wanted and causing everyone in school to treat her the same way, spreading vicious rumors about her and blacklisting her from parties.  Tatum goes to France for a year just to get away from him and come back a new girl. She is tired of Jared and his friends *hit and starts hitting back, sometimes literally!

I was all over this book, from the semi backstabbing friend, who I wanted to slap half the time and the things that both characters said that had my jaw on the floor I was landed right back in school with this read. I loved seeing Tatum push back, if not a little too far sometimes, but it was refreshing to see a character fight back and not lay down and take it until something big happens and forces them to fight back. It’s so obvious the sexual tension that is dripping off the pages from the first time a request for a lap dance is made. Tatum pushes Jared so much that he finally breaks and tells her why he has hated her for the past three years and let me tell you, my heart cracked for him. From the music choices and sexually charged banter, this was a finish in one sitting read. I am currently purchasing the rest in the series. Penelope Douglas could easily become one of my favorite authors if this awesomeness spreads into her other books.
