Published August 1, 2017 by bookbesties

I am 100 pages from being dine with this baby(life git in the way if my blogger duties) but its still so good!

At first, the death of William Baldwine, the head of the Bradford family, was ruled a suicide. But then his eldest son and sworn enemy, Edward, came forward and confessed to what was, in fact, a murder. Now in police custody, Edward mourns not the disintegration of his family or his loss of freedom . . . but the woman he left behind. His love, Sutton Smythe, is the only person he has ever truly cared about, but as she is the CEO of the Bradford Bourbon Company’s biggest competitor, any relationship between them is impossible. And then there’s the reality of the jail time that Edward is facing. Lane Baldwine was supposed to remain in his role of playboy, forever in his big brother Edward’s shadow. Instead he has become the new head of the family and the company. Convinced that Edward is covering for someone else, Lane and his true love, Lizzie King, go on the trail of a killer—only to discover a secret that is as devastating as it is game-changing. As Lane rushes to discover the truth, and Sutton finds herself irresistibly drawn to Edward in spite of his circumstances, the lives of everyone at Easterly will never be the same again. For some, this is good; for others, it could be a tragedy beyond imagining. Only one thing is for certain: Love survives all things. Even murder.

Beauty Like the Night (The Spymaster Series) Review Post

Séverine de Cabrillac, orphan of the French revolution and sometime British intelligence agent, has tried to leave spying behind her. Now she devotes herself to investigating crimes in London and finding justice for the wrongly accused.

Raoul Deverney, an enigmatic half-Spaniard with enough secrets to earn even a spy’s respect, is at her door demanding help. She’s the only one who can find the killer of his long-estranged wife and rescue her missing twelve-year-old daughter.

Séverine reluctantly agrees to aid him, even though she knows the growing attraction between them makes it more than unwise. Their desperate search for the girl unleashes treason and murder. . . and offers a last chance for two strong, wounded people to find love.

This book took me a while to get into, not by any fault of the Author. You see, I have read so many historical romance books that they all start to have very similar plot lines and characters this book was very different right from the start. It took me a while to stop reading this expecting typical historical romance characters and plots and to start reading it as more of an adventure book. I love that our lead characters are an infamous spy and thief and how their individual skill sets as such play into their relationship. This book as many twists and turns and is quite an adventure to read. I absolutely can not wait to add this to my collection.

the brightest SUNSET (Review Post)

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Lies.
Words destroyed me.
“I’m sorry. She didn’t make it.”
“Daddy, he can’t breathe!”
“There’s nothing more we can do for your son.”
Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
More lies.
Those syllables and letters became my executioner. I told myself that, if I didn’t acknowledge the pain and the fear, they would have no power over me. But, as the years passed, the hate and the anger left behind began to control me.
Two words—that was all it took to plunge my life into darkness.
“He’s gone.”
In the end, it was four soft, silky words that gave me hope of another sunrise.
“Hi. I’m Charlotte Mills.”

Witty, emotional, heart-warming and gut-wrenching are just a small portion of the rang of emotions in this amazing story

After reading the Darkest SUNRISE, I was afraid to read the conclusion in the brightest SUNSET, but I forged on, because how could I not!?

I still don’t have my emotions in check after reading this book, and honesty I can’t really tell you about it without spoilers, it’s just one of those books you have to experience and not just read.

GrIf I thought that Charlotte killed me in the first book, then Porter Reese SLAYED me! The book picks up right where the cliffhanger of the last one left off and to say it is with a bang is an understatement! I was so mad for a good portion of the book and i guess I could understand, but come on!!

There is a riff, but Aly didn’t make us wait long before that riff was whole and the obstacles that Porter, Charlotte, Brady, Travis, and Hannah have to go through are, just…WOW! I have no idea how Aly does it, but she digs deep in your soul with her words and pulls out this emotions you didn’t even know you had for a subject you would have no idea how to handle in a million and two years, THAT’S how talented and good this book was!

I really can’t imagine thinking my life was one way, then BAM! everything I thought I knew is in question, including the love I have for someone. It was a great emotionally charged ride that I will read over and over!

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.

The Scandal of it All by Sophie Jordan(Review Post)

A vibrant, passionate Spanish beauty, Graciela never imagined she’d be a widow at such a young age. But when her husband, the Duke of Autenberry, dies, she finds herself alone—a Dowager Duchess with two grown stepchildren. But she’s determined to live a full, satisfying life… and decides to take a lover for a single night.

Lord Tucker has been best friends with Marcus, the new Duke of Autenberry, since they were children. He could hardly believe his eyes when the elderly duke married a woman as stunning as Graciela, but loyalty to the family that has always welcomed him—and the scandal of wanting his best friend’s stepmother—keep him from voicing his desire for the Dowager Duchess.

That is, until Graciela offers Tucker one wild night in her bed and it’s too tempting to resist. But what was supposed to be a single passionate encounter soon turns into an affair of the heart.

I really enjoyed reading this book!!  This story is full of scandal. From some of the settings to the relationships between the main characters, it is scandal after scandal and any historical romance fan will have a permanent smile as they get drawn in to find out if the scandals are exposed.   It makes me so happy to find an author who isn’t afraid to allow her characters to explore their wild sides to find their happiness.  I can not wait to read more of her books and to add this one to my collection.

Hate to Want You by Alisha Rai(Review Post)

Published July 25, 2017 by bookbesties

One night. No one will know.

That was the deal. Every year, Livvy Kane and Nicholas Chandler would share one perfect night of illicit pleasure. The forbidden hours let them forget the tragedy that haunted their pasts—and the last names that made them enemies.

Until the night she didn’t show up.

Now Nicholas has an empire to run. He doesn’t have time for distractions and Livvy’s sudden reappearance in town is a major distraction. She’s the one woman he shouldn’t want…so why can’t he forget how right she feels in his bed?

Livvy didn’t come home for Nicholas, but fate seems determined to remind her of his presence—and their past. Although the passion between them might have once run hot and deep, not even love can overcome the scandal that divided their families.

Being together might be against all the rules…but being apart is impossible.

This is my first time reading anything from this author but the cover intrigued me! Nicholas Chandler and Olivia Kane were once lovers until a tragedy causes a rift between families. Olivia and Nicholas secretly agree on one night every year where they meet and don’t talk after till the next year.

I was sucked in from the beginning the banter between these two is hot, fiery and the sparks show from chapter one! I was left rooting for them and I didn’t want to put the book down! I had so many questions: Why did their families hate each other? Can Olivia forgive Nicholas? Will they rise from the problems of their past? This book had the right amount of chapters and the chemistry between these two was sweltering! My only negative to this story is I would have loved an epilogue or a more finalized ending but it was still a high five book for me! Can’t wait to read more from this Author!

The Dream Keeper’s Daughter: A Novel

Published July 25, 2017 by bookbesties

A woman discovers an impossible connection that transcends time and place in this stirring, unforgettable novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Memory Thief.

Isabel Griffin has done her best to move on since her boyfriend, Max Adair, vanished without a trace eight years ago, leaving her heartbroken—and pregnant. Eerily enough, this isn’t the first time someone Isabel loves has gone missing. When she was sixteen, her mother disappeared, and her father became obsessed with finding his long-lost wife—at the expense of parenting Isabel.

Determined not to repeat her father’s mistakes, Isabel works hard to become a respected archaeologist and a loving mother to her daughter, Finn, a little girl with very unusual abilities. But while Isabel is on a dig in Barbados, she receives a disturbing phone call. The hauntingly familiar voice on the other end speaks just four words—“Isabel. Keep her safe.”—before they’re disconnected.

Isabel tries to convince herself that the caller can’t possibly be Max. But what if it is, and Finn is in danger? As one mysterious event after another occurs, she can’t shake the feeling that, despite what everyone else believes, Finn’s father is alive—and he’s desperately trying to reach her.

Let me start by saying the title of this book makes no sense to me based on the story.  But I will say mistitled or not this was a very interesting book.  From page one you can tell that the author took her time and did her research on the topics and places she used to build the characters and their story.  I really appreciate that!  This book did not end the way I was expecting it too and guess what….  I was not disappointed.

There are a couple of things towards the end of the book that are obviously in the story so additional books can be written using some of the characters, and while I would love to see these characters stories written, the way that they were referenced and used in this book made me feel like they were just thrown in for the sake of continuing or building a series.

All in all this was a good book and I would absolutely read it again.

Blackthorne’s Bride: A Bitter Creek Novel Review Post (@BerklyRomance)

A rogue nobleman, a rescued lady, and revenge undone by romance all play a part in New York Times bestselling author Joan Johnston’s irresistible novel of best-laid plots, delicious deception, and unexpected passion.

Two years have passed since Josie Wentworth was bought from the Sioux for a gold watch and whisked back to England by Marcus Wharton, the Duke of Blackthorne. When Marcus breaks his promise to return Josie to America, she ends up as a maid in the home of his charming but neglected nephews. Once Josie’s long-lost family finds her, however, the suddenly wealthy heiress sets out to save the two boys from their indifferent uncle—and teach the duke a lesson in honor.

Learning that Marcus is seeking a rich American bride to save his estate, Josie plots to catch his eye—certain he’ll never recognize the beauty she’s become as the ragged captive he rescued. But Josie doesn’t wager on her marital charade taking a tender turn, as the nobleman she’s despised for years proves to be a very different man than she’s imagined. And there’s no denying his passionate caresses, as she falls deeper under the spell of a husband determined to claim her heart.

This is an awesome story!  I loved knowing the insider details about each character and how they knew and felt about the other when they didn’t, it made this such a fun read.  I really like that even though this book was written as a continuation to a series (I didn’t know that until after I read the book) that the author wrote for her fans because they requested to know “what happened to Josie” I never felt like I was missing part of the story.  I am looking forward to reading the first 3 books in the series now to see if they can give more insight into the heroin I have grown to love.

Lady Be Bad by Megan Frampton( Review Post)

Pride and Prejudice meets Moonstruck in this sexy, smart love story between a man who falls for his brother’s fiancee, and a young woman who longs for adventure before she’s sold off in marriage

Once upon a time, a duke had five daughters who never made a stir. They practiced their French, their pianoforte, and their dancing…until one ran off with the dancing instructor, and the rest were left to face the scandal.

Lady Eleanor, the duke of Marymount’s eldest daughter, knows the burden is hers: she must marry well to restore the family name. So a loveless match is made and her fate is set. But then Eleanor meets her intended’s rakish younger brother. With his tawny hair, green eyes, and scandalous behavior, Lord Alexander Carson makes her want to be very bad indeed.

With his very honorable sibling too busy saving the world to woo Eleanor, Alexander is tasked with finding out her likes and dislikes for his elder brother. But the more time he spends with the secretly naughty Eleanor, and helps her tick off all the things on her good list for being bad, the more he knows what they want, and need, is each other.

This book was an entertaining read. The female lead character was a joy to get to know. I would go as far as describing her personality as cute. Her journey to “more” is what makes this book such a fun read. This book is not overly sexual and I feel like that gave the author the opportunity to really delve into the heroine’s growth from a young naive lady into womanhood. I truly love the fact that in this book we get real insight of the emotions and thoughts of a young lady in a period of time where society and her family make all of the decisions in her life.
