Shadow Silence by Yasmine Galenorn(Review Post)

Fifteen years ago, I ran away from Whisper Hollow, Washington, a small town on Lake Crescent in the Olympic Peninsula. But truth is, if you were born here, you can never really leave. I’m Kerris Fellwater, and I’m a spirit shaman. It’s my responsibility to drive the dead back to their graves, because around Whisper Hollow, people—and secrets—don’t always stay buried.

My best friend Peggin finds herself under a curse after she is almost taken by the Lady of the Lake, and the Unliving are determined to drag her back to the hungry waters. As Bryan—my guardian and mate—and I work to break the hex, we uncover a dark and violent mystery from the past. One the Hounds of Cú Chulainn will do anything to guard—even if they must summon a legion of the dead to destroy Whisper Hollow.

AMAZON

I have had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of part two of the Whisper Hallow series.  It was just as exciting as the first; by exciting I mean intensely terrifying.  I have a problem with ghost and spirits and never quite remember that until I am in the middle of a book I now cannot put down.  Let me say that judging by the chills I have running down my arms and up my back when I read, Ms Galenorn has captured the spirit *bah dun tss* of the novel.

Thank goodness for Kerris (I love her name!), Byran and Ellia and the work they do.  I love the description of Whisper Hallow.  It is a town I would love to visit and/or live; minus the spirits of course.  A quaint small town that looks after their own and where people live forever; sometimes literally.

Sex Machine:Marie Force(Review Post)

He’s good for one thing and one thing only—and she wants it bad. Honey Carmichael has never had a decent orgasm, and she’s out to change that with the one man in town known for his superior skill between the sheets. Blake Dempsey is happy to help Honey with her “problem” as long as she knows he’s only interested in sex. His heart was broken when his high school girlfriend was killed in the car he was driving, and he has nothing to offer other than more orgasms than Honey can handle. Which is just fine with her—until fantastic orgasms aren’t enough anymore for either of them and unexpected feelings turn hot sex into messy entanglement—and that most definitely wasn’t in the plans. But you know what they say about plans… A sexy, dirty standalone romance intended for MATURE audiences. If you can’t take the heat in Blake’s bedroom, stay out or you might get burned. You’ve been warned!

AMAZON

I became a recent fan of Marie Force via her other (M.S. Force) series of books and I thought sure, the title alone caught my attention.

From the very first word I was hook.

“I want you to *uck me.”

Talk about a one liner that will hit the breaks! I was hooked on the story of Honey and her quest for the big ‘O’ and I was not prepared for the hilarity that ensued when she first encountered Blake and “The *ock.” The story line itself has been done several times but Marie wrote it in such a way that it was fresh and exciting, if not accurate as to how it would be being with someone who is overly endowed as was Blake!

While I loved the story I already riddled out how it was going to play out simply because so much emphasis was put on his(Blake’s) past and how much it haunted him. Honey was a breath of fresh air and while this is a standalone, the other side characters were great and I’d love to find out if anything comes from them!

In all I loved the story and its a great quick read when you need a mix of hot sex, light comedy and romance that will make you swoon!

I was on the fence about this book because when I first started to read it II did not think I would enjoy it.. Trevor works at a club but does fights and trains daily, fighting is something that he loves until that something is jeopardized after a night of trying to help out a friend. Then we meet Dr. Fox who he meets at the hospital and soon she has his fighting destiny in her hands! She can make or break his dreams. So naturally, the chemistry is hot from the start! Trevor is a charmer! When you love something so much but are endangered of never being able to do what you love again you have this passion and that passion bleed through on the pages. I found myself willing and hoping beyond hope that Trevor gets his destiny! This is as much as I have rooted for a book character in a long time. Overall a four star read for me!

Billionaire on the Loose by Jessica Clare (Review Post)

The New York Times bestselling author of the Billionaire Boys Club novels is back with a sexy, sweet romance that proves opposites definitely attract…

Taylor is a genius when it comes to computers, but understanding the opposite sex is beyond her. Because she always fumbles her flirtations, she needs help in finding her Prince Charming. So when her friend, Gretchen, sets her up as a tour guide for a new guy in town, she says yes despite her misgivings.

She just doesn’t expect Mr. Charming to actually be royalty…

A faction in his country wants him to be king, but Loch has no intention of taking the crown. To keep from being named as the next successor, he hatches a scheme to marry a totally unacceptable American woman. Quirky Taylor seems like the perfect person for the job, until Loch realizes he likes more about her than her ability to keep him off the throne.

When Loch’s secret schemes come out, his chance of happiness with Taylor are blown—unless he can find a way to get the nerdy object of his affection to believe she’s truly the queen of his heart…

I wanted to love this book, I mean it it had a prince, a shy gamer girl, and destiny! Loch needs to getaway from his royal family and finds himself in the USA! Now introduce Taylor who is shy, funny and into computer online role play! This was a little outside my scope of characters, as I have no idea about on line role playing, but it was interesting! Their relationship starts as a arrangement and it’s interesting to find out what comes next. The chemistry between the two is cute and fun and it will have you excited to see what comes next! The one thing looming over this is that Loch doesn’t really tell Taylor the truth behind the arrangement until muuuuuch later! It’s a fun read and if you like computer online role play this book has a lot of references! It’s a good read that any gamer is sure to enjoy!3 and a half

Olivia Decoded(Review Post)@ViVibarnes

Published September 13, 2016 by bookbesties

510iuotwobl

This isn’t my Jack, who once looked at me like I was his world. The guy who’s occupied the better part of my mind for eight months.

This is Z, criminal hacker with a twisted agenda and an arsenal full of anger.

I’ve spent the past year trying to get my life on track. New school. New friends. New attitude. But old flames die hard, and one look at Jack—the hacker who enlisted me into his life and his hacking ring, stole my heart, and then left me—and every memory, every moment, every feeling comes rushing back. But Jack’s not the only one who’s resurfaced in my life. And if I can’t break through Z’s defenses and reach the old Jack, someone will get hurt…or worse.

If I hadn’t known that the story takes place BEFORE the epilogue from the previous book, I would have been a little lost, but not for long. I read this book in about 14 hours and was kinda sad it was over.

The story takes place 8 months after the last one ended where Jack left Olivia with her maternal grandfather to live a normal live, free of hacking. I was really excited to get to read more of Olivia and Jack A.K.A “Z” story because the first one was so great.  Olivia decoded had all the makings of a great squeal; mystery, angst(this is a YA novel) drama, romance and suspense all in the opening chapters!

Olivia is trying to move on with her life, but a certain blonde hair leather wearing guy keeps her firmly in the past, but in a good way, meanwhile Z is just trying to keep his little family afloat but not ready to give up his hacking. But someone starts stalking Liv and framing Z and the two come crashing together in a tense but hopeful reunion. mixed with cars crashes, lying, breaking and entering and of course hacking this had me on the edge of my seat for most of the book.

I think, for a squeal, ViVi Barnes did such a great job, where some sequels can fall flat, this one did not and was just as great as the first one.

Rookie Move(A Brooklyn Bruisers Novel)-Review Post

Published September 6, 2016 by bookbesties

51UD6vgviqL._SX308_BO1,204,203,200_

The first novel in a sexy new series featuring the hockey players of the Brooklyn Bruisers and the women who win their hearts—from the USA Today bestselling author of the Ivy Years series.

In high school they were the perfect couple—until the day Georgia left Leo in the cold…

Hockey player Leo Trevi has spent the last six years trying to do two things: get over the girl who broke his heart, and succeed in the NHL. But on the first day he’s called up to the newly franchised Brooklyn Bruisers, Leo gets checked on both sides, first by the team’s coach—who has a long simmering grudge, and then by the Bruisers’ sexy, icy publicist—his former girlfriend Georgia Worthington.

Saying goodbye to Leo was one of the hardest things Georgia ever had to do—and saying hello again isn’t much easier. Georgia is determined to keep their relationship strictly professional, but when a press conference microphone catches Leo declaring his feelings for her, things get really personal, really fast….

This book called to me from the jump. I love second chance romances and then combine it with a sports romance and voila I am hooked! I really enjoyed this story a lot! Georgia crushed Leo many years ago by leaving him and now after overcoming his heartbreak and years go by, Leo is famous hockey star and Georgia has to work for his new team! AWKWARD!!!
The chemistry between the two is hot and Leo has it bad, his love having been put on the back burner all these years. But now that she is in front of him,it’s hitting him hard and he can’t keep away! Great story and very heartfelt, it will definitely have you rooting for Leo the whole time!

About the book:

Welcome to Hartwell, a quiet seaside escape where uncovering old secrets could lead one woman to discover the meaning of a love that lasts…

While Doctor Jessica Huntington engages with the inmates at the women’s correctional facility where she works, she’s always careful to avoid emotional attachments in her personal life.  Loss and betrayal taught her that lesson long ago. But when she comes across a set of old love letters in the prison’s library and visits the picturesque town of Hartwell to deliver them to their intended recipient, she finds herself unable to resist the town’s charm—and her attraction to the sexy owner of a local bar proves equally hard to deny.

Since his divorce from his unfaithful ex-wife, Cooper Lawson has focused on what really matters: his family and the boardwalk pub they’ve owned for generations.  But the first time Jessica steps into his bar, Cooper is beyond tempted to risk his heart on her.

Yet as their attraction grows hotter and Jessica remains stubbornly closed off, he begins to realize it will take more than just passion to convince her there’s only one real thing in life worth fighting for…

Excerpt

“You’re not walking back to the inn alone at night, Doc. We’ve been over that.” He grinned as she flushed at the reminder of their make-out session on the beach.

She huffed. “I’m perfectly capable of doing so.”

“Not arguing about it.”

“What happened to the enlightened gentleman who let me pay for dinner the other day?”

“Splitting the cost of a date is different from seeing to your safety.”

“Date?” Bailey’s ears perked up.

“Fine, you can walk me home,” Jessica said abruptly, cutting off Bailey’s curiosity. “’Bye, all!” She hurried out of the house.

Cooper was met by four amused stares. He smiled back at them and Bailey looked ready to burst with delight. She thought they were a tag team.

They weren’t.

Cooper still wanted the doc to make up her own mind.

Didn’t mean teasing her wasn’t fun as hell.

He hurried to catch up with her outside. “Hold your horses, Doc.”

She turned to wait for him. The sadness he caught on her face kicked the amusement right out of him.

They walked together toward the inn in silence until Cooper couldn’t take it anymore. It needed to be talked about. “You happy back in Wilmington, Doc?”

He felt her tense beside him. She suddenly threw her hands up in seeming frustration. “I don’t know, okay? I don’t know. But I do know that my life is back in Wilmington, Cooper. My job is there. And I’m good at my job. Those women need someone like me. I made a commitment to my job that I can’t just break.”

“And what about you?” he argued. “What about what you need?”

Her only answer was this pained expression he didn’t quite understand.

It was full of so much hurt he decided to drop it.

Silence fell between them, but the usual camaraderie he enjoyed so much between them was gone. As the moments passed, he was aware of everything about her. The heat of her body close to his, the quick rise and fall of her chest that told him she was just as affected by his closeness, the little tremble in her full bottom lip he didn’t think she was even aware of.

The previous night, he’d dreamed about her.

She was in his bar like the day they’d met. No one else around but them.

He’d fucked her on top of one of the tables.

Fast. Furious.

So hot.

Cooper had woken up only to jump into the shower. He’d closed his eyes and remembered the dream as he took care of himself.

It was empty, so fucking empty, in comparison to what reality could be.

His dick tightened in his jeans thinking about it, his gaze shooting to Jessica’s mouth. It was time to remind her what was possible between them.

Cooper grabbed her wrist and pushed her up against the side of Dahlia’s gift shop. The alley between it and George’s place was dark and silent except for their heavy breathing. He pinned her in, his hands braced on the wall at either side of her head.

Jessica stared up at him with those big, dark eyes. “Coop—”

He cut off her coming question with his mouth just like last time.

She tasted of the mint ice cream they’d had for dessert and something else. Something all Jess.

She whimpered against his kiss a second before he felt her tongue touch his and that was it.

He was lost.

His kiss turned hungry as a feeling of desperation came over him and he pressed his body down the length of hers. The lush feel of her mouth mingled with the weight of her breasts pressed to him was enough on its own to fire him up, but when she wrapped her arms around his neck and tightened her fingers in his hair to draw him closer, he was done for.

He gripped her ass in his hand, urging her closer, his dick straining against her belly. His hand slid down to the back of her thigh and he hiked one of her legs up against his hip so he could be where he needed to be, fitting snugly between her thighs.

Fuck, he wished she were wearing a skirt.

“Cooper.” She breathed out his name, breaking the kiss. Her head fell back and her eyes fluttered with the sensation of him rubbing against her, mimicking sex. Her cheeks were flushed as she moaned and dug her hands into his shoulders to hold on. She flexed her hips against his and he felt his nerve endings catch fire.

He needed to be inside her.

The soft skin of her throat called to him and, as she gyrated against him, he tasted her, pressing kisses down her neck and across her collarbones. He moved his other hand down her back as his mouth reached the rise of her breasts. He brushed his thumb over the thin shirt and bra that hid them from him and groaned as her nipple visibly pebbled through the material.

If they didn’t stop soon he was going to take her right there.

“Fuck.” He pulled away from her abruptly and she stumbled back against the wall, looking as dazed as he felt.

All he’d wanted was a taste of her.

Now he knew for certain that just a taste would never be enough with this woman. “Tell me,” he said, a little breathless, “tell me you’ve got this back in Wilmington, Doc.”

He watched the muscle in her jaw twitch as she clenched her teeth.

She couldn’t tell him.

He knew that. Because what they had between them didn’t come around very often.

“Doc?” he persisted, and he learned in that moment that Jessica Huntington was not only smart and sassy but stubborn as hell.

“I can’t do this”—she gestured between them—“not with you.”

And she walked away.

Gutting him.

He was just asking her to think about making room in her life for him. The fact that she wouldn’t even contemplate it for a second, when his blood was on fire with need for her and his mind was on her most hours of the day, was like a gaping wound.

Strangely, the pain fired his determination. Jessica Huntington was lying to herself. Cooper didn’t know why, but he was going to find out.

By then the doc would be in his bed.

Right where they both knew she belonged.

Blind Landing(Flipped Book 1) Review post

Published August 30, 2016 by bookbesties

51u072+33rL

Fear stops dreams in their tracks before they even have a chance. Then again, so do injuries.

Natalia Grekov was born to win a gold medal. As the USA’s top gymnast, she’s calm, confident and ready to make her country proud in just two short months. And her elite athlete lifestyle includes no time for distractions—especially men. When a disastrous fall in practice puts her dreams at risk, it seems the only person who can help her is the one person she wants nothing from.

Spencer Russell is gymnastics’ bad boy. A cocky, laid-back charmer with abs of steel and a witty mouth, he waltzes around the U.S. Gymnastics Training Camp like he owns the place—even though he doesn’t anymore. After an injury sidelined his career and any chance at glory, he’s now just a coach, helping other gymnasts reach their goals. Serious is not a word in Spencer’s vocabulary. But when Natalia tumbles into his life, he’s suddenly sincerely interested in helping the blonde beauty in any way he can.

Can they vault over the obstacles standing in their way? Or will Spencer be the distraction that causes Natalia’s chance at gold to crash and burn?

bright pink coloured stars scattered on a black background

I was super excited for this book because I had never seen a romance about Olympian Gymnastics, not that there are not some out there, I just hadn’t seen them.

It was interesting for me to read all the moves they were doing and could actually visualize them as they were doing it. I have a child that’s been in ‘The Lifestyle’ for years and if I hadn’t known what a hip circle was or a giant looked liked it would have been a little confusing to me as it wasn’t that well explained.

Natalia was a little of a contradiction to me. She was like a female Spencer but not really. She was cocky and daring, but not..It is explained why but her charterer still felt off to me. I really loved Spencer, his and Natalia’s banter was great as well as his attitude, plus I’ve seen those gymnastic men and they are RIPPED, so I knew he was also hot.

All in all I liked the story because of the gymnastic elements but the spark wasn’t there for me. That’s not to say I wouldn’t read it again or recommend it, I would do both but maybe my expectations for this one fell a little flat.
