Someone to Hold(Review Post)

A reversal of fortune befalls a young woman in the latest Westcott novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Only a Kiss and Someone to Love.

Humphrey Wescott, Earl of Riverdale, has died, leaving behind a fortune and a scandalous secret that will forever alter the lives of his family—sending one daughter on a journey of self-discovery…

With her parents’ marriage declared bigamous, Camille Westcott is now illegitimate and without a title. Looking to eschew the trappings of her old life, she leaves London to teach at the Bath orphanage where her newly discovered half-sister lived. But even as she settles in, she must sit for a portrait commissioned by her grandmother and endure an artist who riles her every nerve.

An art teacher at the orphanage that was once his home, Joel Cunningham has been hired to paint the portrait of the haughty new teacher. But as Camille poses for Joel, their mutual contempt soon turns to desire. And it is only the bond between them that will allow them to weather the rough storm that lies ahead…

First, I want to say that this is this blogs first time reading anything historical, but we got a new review who LOOOOVES the stuff sooo..

This book was fairly easy to read.  But right from the beginning as I was reading I felt like there was a lot of extra language or filler if you would call it. At times it felt like there were excessively detailed descriptions and periods of extensive repetition that were completely unnecessary and they took away from my ability to connect with the characters.  Once I got past the filler I grew to love the characters and their story.

I appreciated how the author used the societal norms for the era to build depth to the characters and their struggles from royalty to poverty and visa versa.  Without completely spoiling the entire book,I will say that as much as I loved the characters and I was glad that they found true love in each other the ending of the story was way too “happily ever after” for me.The main characters fell in love and chose one another as any good romance story couple should but there was no need to twist the story at the end as to make them have a perfect life.

I feel like it was a cop out to the internal struggles that the heroin was working so hard to overcome and it was in insult to the traits I found so endearing in the hero.  Over all this in most likely not a book I would buy or read a second time due to it’s wordiness and it’s way too  “happily ever after” ending.

In this seductive new novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Falling in Deeper, mixing business with pleasure can be a dangerous proposition…

Jolie Quinn is a woman in charge. Her no-nonsense attitude has made her a rising star in the fashion world and her brand a household name among the Dallas elite. Nothing will stop her from achieving her goals—not even the gorgeous British security contractor who seems just as interested in seeing her personal assets as he is in protecting her professional ones.

After a tragedy left him broken, Heath Powell made a rule of staying unattached. But Jolie challenges him in a way he can’t ignore, and he isn’t used to backing down from a confrontation—especially when the reward for winning could feel so good. As passion blazes between them, the stubborn, confident beauty arouses more than his desire. She touches his heart.

When a mysterious enemy threatens Jolie and her company, Heath is the only person Jolie can trust to help. But working with him to save her business might put her dangerously at risk of falling in love…

EXCERT

Heath jerked back to face her and leaned in so close their noses nearly touched. “Am I wrong?”

She refused to stroll down that memory lane. “Does it matter?”

“I daresay it does. But we’ll come back to that. If you were merely mistrustful of men, you would have waited until tomorrow and delivered a well-placed warning to keep me away from your sister.

Instead, you came after me. And when you found me with another woman, your temper flared. If I merely lived up to your expectations of being a womanizing prick, that shouldn’t make you angry at all, simply smug at being right. But you were livid. I doubt all that displeasure is on your sister’s behalf. In fact, I suspect, Ms. Quinn, that you have more than a passing interest in me. You were jealous.”

Apprehension raced through her veins. He was uncomfortably close to the truth. “You’re egotistical.”

“But I’m right.” He gave her a tight smile. “For the record, if I intended to disregard policy and pursue a woman in the office, I wouldn’t bother with your sister. As you say, she’s naive and provides no challenge. But you . . . You would be far more interesting. Pretty, strong, smart, not easily bendable. Color me intrigued.”

She tensed. “I’m your boss.”

“Temporarily. We’re both adults. Surely neither of us are prone to torrid emotional attachments. We could keep business separate from personal, couldn’t we?”

Normally, she’d say yes. But working with him constantly buzzing around her, asking questions, and watching her every move had already dented her focus. “I have no intention of becoming your next conquest.”

“I never planned to pursue you.”

Jolie wondered why, then dismissed the question as she buttoned her red coat. “Perfect. There’s nothing left to say except I’m sorry for intruding on your evening. I hope we can forget this by morning.”

She had to get out of here. She’d overplayed her hand and needed to regroup, to think about how to treat him tomorrow. The last thing she wanted was for Heath Powell to decide she was a challenge he should convert into his next bed partner after all. Normally, the sexual urges of a man wouldn’t concern her unless she was interested. If so, she found a way to have him for a night or two, then ended it.

Something told her that nothing with Heath would ever be that simple.

But when Jolie turned her back on him and headed for the parking lot, he snaked an arm around her middle and pulled her against his big, steely body. “I never planned to pursue you . . . but I’ve changed my mind.”

What’s not to love about this book?! Hot guy with an even hotter accent or the take what I want woman in charge! Jolie is not looking for romance all she wants is to get this investor for her business! And Heath doesn’t do relationship after what he went through he thinks he will never love again.

Joile needs help, security and she looks to Heath to get it, but when a misplaced warning turns his interest Heath decides otherwise. As they work together there the chemistry these two have is immediate and sparking all over! The banter between these two is one I found sexy and sweet. There is some suspense that will have you guessing till the end and overall this was a Great read and a must buy!

The second installment of the White House Series, from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katy Evans.

We fell in love during the campaign.
The stakes were high.
Reputations could have been ruined.
Scandal hovered over us like a cloud.
Now the man I love is the President of the United States of America.
And its not my vote he is after.
He wants it all.
My heart. My body. My soul.
He wants me by his side.
In the White House.
Normalcy will be gone from my life, privacy forgotten.
I am only twenty three. I just wanted to play a part in history. But it seems like history wasn’t done with me. The part where I lost my heart to Matthew Hamilton? It was only the beginning…

Was I the only one who was nervous, heart pounding as I opened this book and read the first chapter?

Every now and then you get those books that you are so excited for, but yet so nervous to read. Katy did it to me with Manwhore and she has done it again with this one. Charlotte and Matt, the couple that everyone was hoping would become”Official”and yet, who else got a little frustrated when it didn’t happen right away? I get all the reasons Charlotte was hesitant, but OMG, the POTUS wants you!, YOU! how can you say no to that?

I did love the asgnst, them falling back in love all over again, the stolen moments and the fact that there was really nothing stopping them from being together except those two. Everyone was routing for them and there were no jealous lovers, or scorned exes to deal with. And the final(After a tease or two or seven), final outcome, which was, lets face it, classic Katy and classically perfectly perfect.

The love that was pouring off the pages, was sigh worthy(Which I did out loud a few times)

Spurred On by Sabrina York(Review Post)

From the author of Cowboy to Command and Stud for Hire comes the third deliciously sexy Stripped Down novel.

Just south of Fort Worth, Texas, you’ll find a little ranch where the hot, toned cowboys are ready and eager to take it all off and make your naughtiest fantasies come true…

As the owner of the Double S Ranch, Cody Silver knows what women want—all except the one that got away. So when his high school girlfriend Sidney Stevens comes back to town for her sister’s wedding, Cody will do whatever it takes to prove that he’s a changed man.

After their explosive breakup, it took a long time for Sidney’s broken heart to heal—and she’s not about to risk it again. She’ll tangle with Cody and live out her simmering fantasies, but when the time comes she’s going to walk away satisfied.

But love has a way of ruining the best laid plans, and Cody and Sidney are about to learn that what you want isn’t always what you need…

I was interested by hearing the title name and was excited to read the story, and while it was a nice story, it fell a little short for me. The chemistry between Sidney and Cody is strong but dissolved to quickly for me. Sidney is the ex lover scorned by Cody, which now he sees the error of his ways and  he wants her back and, no surprise she is not ready. Sidney character was too much back and forth for my taste, she wanted him, she hated him, which I know can be some women but I don’t think all women do this?  Cody seemed very easily diverted. Like I said when the romance was there it was good but Sidney was too much hot and cold. There were a lot of other characters that had a lot going on and maybe they will have their own books, but it was a bit much. All in all it was not my cup of tea .

Dirty Money by Jessica Clare(Review Post)

Published January 17, 2017 by bookbesties

Southern Texas heats up when four roughneck billionaires set their sights on love in the new series from New York Times bestselling author Jessica Clare.

Boone Price and his brothers know oil; at least, the dirty, backbreaking side of working an oil rig. But when their scrubby, worthless hunting land turns out to be sitting on top of one of the biggest oil wells in North America, they go from the rig to the boardroom and end up billionaires practically overnight.

Now with enough money to do whatever he wants, Boone is developing a taste for fine things. And the finest thing he’s ever seen is Ivy Smithfield, local realtor. Boone’s determined to win her affection and show the world that he’s more than just a dirty fool with a bit of money. Ivy’s classy and beautiful – she’ll make the perfect trophy wife. The fact that she’s sexy and funny is just a bonus.

There’s one tiny problem – Ivy’s as dirt poor as Boone was. Her carefully crafted veneer of luxury? All an act to promote her business. What’s Boone going to do when he finds out the woman he’s falling for is, well, in his league?

bright pink coloured stars scattered on a black background

The idea of this book was right up my alley, I mean, who doesn’t love a dirty talker amiright? I loved Boone at first, he was unapologetic and brash and knew how to use dirty words to his advantage. He was a roughneck through and through and just because he happened to have money, and I mean M O N E Y, didn’t mean he was changing for anyone. You can take the roughneck off of the rig…..Ivy is the total opposite of Boone, classy and groomed and rich…..or so she leads everyone to believe, including Boone, who only wanted her because he thought she was classy when he saw her(on a flier, none the less). But then, Boone started getting dumb. Like money is the answer to everything dumb.

“Come away with me.”-Him

“No, I can’t I have clients.”-Her

“I’ll buy them a car if they reschedule.”-Him

“Okay.”-Her

I’m paraphrasing like crazy here, but you get the idea.

I didn’t really connect with Ivy like I thought I would. She went back and forth to staying professional and getting involved with him, who according to him, he was going to marry. But one thing, ONE thing happened and she was lost.

With all of that being said I really did enjoy the story line and writing style. The chemistry with the two were palpable on the page and the tension of what will happen when he finds out is what really saved this read for me.

I will keep my eyes peeled for the other brothers stories, because there are a few that seem waaaay more than meets the eye there.

Excerpt:

He looks devilishly handsome.

His hair is combed back and oh, how I love every chiseled inch of his face. He’s the first to move, prying his hands from his pockets, eyes flaring, inhaling visibly—his inhale stretching the fabric of that black tux.

Disbelief and a punch of longing to have all of this man, his love and his name and his babies, hits me as he approaches. I’m gazing at him walk to me down the hall of the White House residence, both of us ready to attend a social dinner. My first public event with him.

I need a moment, or a thousand moments, to adjust to this new role.

Matt continues advancing—with every step his eyes drinking me in, his lips curling in a seductive, appreciative smile.

“You ready?” He stretches out his hand.

I nod and look at that hand—the hand I’ve held so many times, and that held me. I slide my fingers down the length of his, and he grips them and leads me down the staircase with him.

Hard Hitter(A Brooklyn Bruisers Novel) Review post

Published January 3, 2017 by bookbesties

511hw8mqrql-_sx308_bo1204203200_

From the USA Today bestselling author of Rookie Move comes the second novel in the series that’s hot enough to melt the ice.

He’s a fighter in the rink, but he’s about to learn that playing nice can help you score…

As team captain and enforcer, Patrick O’Doul puts the bruise in the Brooklyn Bruisers. But after years of hard hits, O’Doul is feeling the burn, both physically and mentally. He conceals his pain from his coach and trainers, but when his chronic hip injury becomes too obvious to ignore, they send him for sessions with the team’s massage therapist.

After breaking up with her long-term boyfriend, Ari Bettini is in need of peace of mind. For now, she’s decided to focus on her work: rehabilitating the Bruisers’ MVP. O’Doul is easy on the eyes, but his reaction to her touch is ice cold. Ari is determined to help O’Doul heal, but as the tension between them turns red hot, they both learn that a little TLC does the body good…

I love a great hockey book and when it’s a series that’s even better because you see the growth of all the characters! Patrick is Mr. Team captain and he is used to being the enforcer! Ari is the massage/yoga instructor and she rolls out all of their kinks! Patrick is the quiet brooding type and Ari brings out a softer side in him! I was excited to see if their romance would score a goal or would Ari’s ex body check Patrick? This book had everything I love in a good sports book, entertaining, romance, sweet, and keeps you reading! The romance  slowly simmers to boiling point! Trust me you won’t be disappointed! Cannot wait for the next book in the series!
