USA Today bestselling author Vivienne Lorret launches a charming new trilogy about three debutantes who get more than they bargained for when it comes to the mating habits of scoundrels . . .
Heiress Winnifred Humphries refuses to marry the odious man her parents have chosen. She’ll marry for love or not at all. But how does a woman know a man truly loves her? Needing answers, she sets out to discover the marriage habits of London’s aristocrats. Yet when her friends kidnap a lord for research, Winn knows they’ve gone too far. Now she’s facing a wickedly handsome scoundrel who wants revenge.
Lord Asher Holt has the perfect plan to free himself of his father’s debts. But when a trio of foolish debutantes abducts him, their scheme ruins everything! Fuming and tied to a chair, Holt overhears that one of them is an heiress. Perhaps he isn’t above a little kidnapping either.
Yet, when the heiress runs away from her own wedding and straight into his waiting carriage, Holt finds himself on an adventure he’ll never forget, falling in love with a woman worth more than any treasure. But will Winn ever believe his heart only desires her . . . and not her fortune?
Welcome to the first book of The Mating Habits of Scoundrels series. Let me just start by saying the heroine in this book is by far the most relatable character I have EVER has the pleasure to read. This leading lady is my spirit animal, ya’ll. I am not going to go into a bunch of detail on why I say that because I don’t want to ruin your experience of getting to know her. Just know that seeing myself in her seriously sucked me down the rabbit hole, to the point where I was addicted to reading this book. With all that being said I feel like certain aspects of the ending completely left me hanging. I want to know what happens to the Marques! But maybe that is just me being for more of this story, or my inherent need to see justice served to all villains. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to see what adventure Jane’s story will take us on.
Winnifred Humphries is nothing any man would find attractive. She is overweight, freckled, and her hair is terribly unruly- or at least that’s what her mother has told her for her whole life. So it is no wonder that she is willing to submit to an arranged marriage to a man who wants her dowry so he can spoil his mistress. On the morning of her wedding, in a crazy scheme thought up by her best friends, she jumps in a carriage and runs away. Her journey to freedom with an unlikely traveling companion will lead her on an adventure she never would have dreamed of.
Asher Holt will stop at nothing to get out from under the manipulations of his greedy father. Just when he is about to sail away and make a new start he is kidnapped and robbed by debutantes. Now he must find a quick way to make his money back so he can chase his treasure and his freedom. After a night of drinking waking up in a carriage with run-a-way bride just might be his key to escape. Will this adventure give him what he needs so he can finally be free from his terrible father? Or will he lose more than money in the attempt?
After this book, I cannot wait to see what the rest of this series has in store for us!
