A Shade of Vampire (A Shade of Vampire, #1)

I love vampire books as much as the next, In fact aside from aliens (only written by my fav JLA) vampire books are my favorite paranormal reads. I haven’t come across a good YA vampire book in a long time, there have been some great one’s but not YA, so when A shade of Vampire crossed my path I was skeptical that it would hold a candle to what I had become accustomed to, especially because it was so short. Well slap my face and call me WRONG! A shade of Vampire blew me away with how great it was, so much so that I had to get the second book within seconds after finishing the first.

The story already has told me so much about before I even opened it up,

On the evening of Sofia Claremont’s seventeenth birthday, she is sucked into a nightmare from which she cannot wake.
A quiet evening walk along a beach brings her face to face with a dangerous pale creature that craves much more than her blood.
She is kidnapped to an island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine.
An island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains.
Sofia’s life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is the one selected out of hundreds of girls to join the harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince.
Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night.
Will she succeed? …or is she destined to the same fate that all other girls have met at the hands of the Novaks?

I thought with all that already given, what more could such a short book have to tell me.  So much more is what!

The blossoming relationship between our heroine Sofia and Derek the Vampire prince that is holding her captive although not really pulls you in from the moment the two meet. I loved the way the two MC’s came together, Derek wanting Sofia to show him what he has missed the past 400 years and Sofia just trying to survive, in doing so they formed a relationship that neither saw coming. The book had suspense and drama and a little shocking twist towards the end that caused a MAJOR conflict, it was over way too soon for me which is why I literally had to get the second book immediately. I have found my new favorite vampire YA book and look forward to finishing out the rest of the books and reading more from Bella!

4 out of 5 stars.
