Twenty-seven year old Ocean Hawthorne thought he’d known loss and pain when his twin sister Stormie died. It was his fault the world would no longer see her beautiful smile or hear her captivating laughter. The former world champion in the vicious world of MMA fighting thought he’d been through the worst and has now carried that guilt and pain with him since.

Then he met Livie Acosta. The moment he laid his eyes on the exotic beauty, he was hooked. In that split second of looking into her wild and hurt eyes, his heart began to beat again. He knew then that he would never be able to let her go… but was that the right thing for him to do? Because yet again, Ocean found himself surrounded by a familiar darkness, a pain so strong that even breathing hurt, and living felt impossible. He’d pushed too far in the effort to love and help her, and now… now he didn’t know if he’d ever see her again. Lawrence Hawthorne has been through the ringer when it came to hurt and disappointment, but nothing could have prepared him for the possibility of losing Livie.

He’d just found her and now—well, now he didn’t know what to think. To him, Livie was more than just a girl, more than just a friend. To Law, Livie was someone he needed to help and protect, even from herself, and he’d failed that simple task. Will the Hawthorne cousins who have sworn to protect Livie survive her selfish act, or will they crumble, yet again?

My name is Melissa DeOlmos, an aspiring author and a newbie to the world of indie writing. I live in sunny side Palm Bay, Florida with my two lovely crazies ages five and two, along with my Law Enforcement champ of a husband. I could say that writing novels has been a passion that I’ve always pursued, but I can’t. Writing for me has always been my own secret escape into a land of wonders and opportunities.

Filled with love and so much trouble, I sometimes wonder if I need medication for the stories that pop into my head. I have now decided to share my mystical mind and stories with the world so, hopefully, others may also find that little something extra they’ve been looking for within my stories.

Getting to know M.A. De Olmos

BB: What made you want to be a writer?

M.D: What triggered my itch to write started with sleepless nights reading novel after novel. I was in an awkward place and needed to find a positive outlet. Thank goodness I turned to writing because I can be pretty obsessive. 🙂

BB: How long did you wrestle with the idea to become a writer?

M.D: Honestly, once the idea came to me I was hooked. I was so ready to do something for myself, that I let the writer in me completely take over.

BB:  How did you come up with the idea for the Ocean’s Trilogy?

M.D: Oceans Trilogy has a lot to do with my own scattered emotions. I pulled a lot of emotions from my own heart and soul giving life to the characters. It’s a little weird to explain but the names and each of the characters personal conflicts sort of just set themselves in place.

BB: Do you listen to music while you write?  If so what are some of your faves?

M.D: I absolutely love music! If I have not listened to music within the last twelve hours or so, I’d say you better watch out. Music fuels my emotions and just makes me happy. I listened to a lot of rock while writing this series. Some of my favorite bands now include The Frey, The Cab, The Script, Parachute and the list goes on and on.

BB: What kinds of books do you read in your down time?

M.D: I am openly addicted to anything paranormal. My favorite books to read include anything paranormal. Let’s just say I I ever ran into a rabid or rouge werewolf I’d jump up for joy before tackling it. Same goes for a blood lust frenzied vampire. The mystery and fantasy intrigues me to no end.

BB: What’s your greatest experience so far with breaking into the indie writer world?
M.D: I would have to say that reading the reviews is what thrills me. I am love with getting a peek into the readers minds to see how they interpret my crazy. Second would be the AMAZING people I’ve cyber met hehehe. The world is full of amazing people and networking with them is a phenomenal experience.
BB: Well thanks so much for stopping by the blog!
M.D:  Thank you!

I used to have a great life. My little world was bright. I had no complaints. My perfectly simple life made the fall from grace that much more devastating. I plummeted from the heavenly little bubble that I shared with Jake. I fell fast and hard straight into the fiery pits of hell. The knowledge of how things used to be is a bittersweet torture that refuses me even one moment of respite. I live in a painful reverie that I can’t escape.

I had it good once.

That’s gone now.

All of it disappeared like vapor into the ether. I’m a lost woman, wandering through grief and struggling to come to terms with my new title: widow. My family says I need understanding and closure. I say a cigarette and a bottle of wine is a much better option for instant gratification.

I’m the awkward, depressed one standing in the corner making everyone around me miserably uncomfortable. I’m the one with vacant eyes that society strives to help but can’t. I’m the one who hands out tight smiles and derisive snorts. I’m the widow adrift in this world with no direction. No meaning. No hope. No vital sign.

Sadie sets out on a journey to healing without knowing that things will get far worse before they get better. Despite her general indifference to organ donation, she finds herself on a journey to seek out the only people who benefited from her husband’s tragic death.

Resentment runs rampant as she meets the thriving organ recipients. Anger and jealousy spiral, sending the delicate structure of Sadie’s emotions into a tailspin.

Alexander McBride got a second chance—one that he didn’t necessarily want. Alexander is a game changer for Sadie. She hates him for his health but can’t help feeling at home in his presence. He soothes her grief in a way that is intoxicating, addictive even.

The heart that once fell in love with her now resides in Alexander McBride’s chest. It’s a circumstance that forces her to wage an internal war fueled by grief, anger, guilt, love, lust, and loyalty.

Sadie must discover the things that are vital to going on with her life if she has any hope of finding her way through the all-consuming grief that dominates every waking moment.

He looks at me, taking his time as his eyes drag over me from head to toe. “Not so smart today, Sadie.”

“What?” My eyes widen a little showing my confusion.

Zander’s eyes glance to my free hand. “No mace.”

I lower my head looking to my empty hand. “I’m not scared of you,” I admit, inwardly wondering exactly what that means to me.

“Are you sure?” Zander’s voice has taken on a sultry, husky tone.

“Yeah,” I breathe.

“Maybe you should be.” An unmistakable look of regret fills Zander’s eyes, making me curious where it has come from. Seeing that look on his handsome face makes me want to make it better. It makes me want to pull him to me, to wrap myself around him and vow on my life to guard him from all the bad that the world has to offer.

Prologue

Ocean

The tires of my Range Rover screeched outside as Liv took off, making my skin crawl. It was a given something wasn’tright with Liv, but this wasn’t her typical nervous breakdown behavior. No, this was much worse. I could feel it deep inside of me; the familiar feeling of my life spiraling out of control was beginning to take hold of me. When she asked me to let her go, there was so much more meaning behind those words. She wasn’t just having a panicattack; Liv was acting out of desperation, and I know exactly what people are capable of when they act out of desperation. Fuck this shit! If I was going to let her say goodbye to me, we were going down together!

“Law! Law, we need to go now! Where the hell are you?”

Walking around the maze of a studio,my nerves were unraveling with each passing second. Turning the corner, I punched the wall, my fist going straight through the dry wall.

“What the fuck asshole! I was taking a fucking piss. What the hell was that for?”

“We need to go. Something’s not right with Liv, and I’m not staying here. Socome with me or stay I don’t give a shit, but I’m leaving.”

He looked me up and down, then back to the hole I just put through the wall.

“Yeah, I’m coming with you. Head out, I’ll lock up the back and be right out.”

I turned around, walking away before he even finished his sentence. I needed Liv in my arms; I needed to see she was okay. The drive to our condo was the longest fucking drive ever. I jumped in my seat when my cell phone went off with Liv’s ringtone. I pulled it out quickly, answering it on the first ring.

“Baby, you okay? I’m sorry; I didn’t mean to get pissed. Baby?”

All I could make out were the haunting screams and cries coming out of Liv. Her voice was hoarse and strained as ifshe had been screaming for hours. I heard her say goodbye in between her screams and then a loud crash on the other end. My heart wanted to bust out of my chest and I wanted to fucking beat the shit out of Law for driving so fucking slow!

“FUCK LAW, DRIVE FASTER, GO GO GO!”

I said kicking the shit out of his dashboard.

The next turn Law took, the truck nearly tipped over. I punched the gate opener busting the gadget to shreds. As the gate started to open slow as fuck, I jumped out of the truck and took off running. The adrenaline, pain, fear, and hate shredding my veins open was afeeling I experienced not too long ago. They were the same feelings I had after my bike accident as I held my sisters dying body in my arms on the side of the road. I flew up the stairs, not seeing or feeling anything except for my need to get to Liv before I was too late. I couldn’t let her die too; I wouldn’t survive it.

Tears started pouring from my eyes on their own. When I reached our door, I kicked it open without a secondthought. The smell and the sight of blood knocked the little wind I had left in my lungs out of me. My body burned in its entirety as I took in in the site of Liv up against the wall on the floor cutting herself with a big ass piece of glass. When she pulled her wrist out in front of her, I snapped out of my shock, but was too slow. She dug the shard of glass deep into her wrist slicing upwards. When she got to her elbow, she turned white and fell over.

“No, baby no! Livie… Livie open your eyes. LAW CALL THE FUCKING AMBULANCE! Don’t leave me baby;please, I can’t fucking lose you too. LAW! I won’t make it Livie. Fuck you for doing this! I love you Livie, don’t leave me, please!”

There’s an alien next door. And with his looming height and eerie green eyes, he’s hot…until he opens his mouth. He’s infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, he lights me up with a big fat bulls-eye. If I don’t kill him first, that is.

Excerpt 72

“Excuse me ladies.” The voice comes from nowhere and I look around spotting Amber first with her jaw on the ground. She’s speechless, this never happens with her. My eyes roam to find what’s got her in a comatose state and standing right in front of us is a guy in Wranglers so tight it should be a crime and a baby blue dress shirt with those snap buttons. This guy is playing this cowboy part a little too seriously. His boots are even worn like they are the only pair of shoes he owns. Oh brother, is he kidding me? I roll my eyes while Ambers jaw is still on the floor.

She slowly closes her mouth and manages a weak smile. “Hi.”

My eyes feel like they are constantly rolling, this is a damn joke. We’re next at the concession stand and I lean forward asking for a Bud Light. The girl hands me a big plastic cup filled to the brim. Thank you God. I take a big sip letting the cool liquid slide down my throat. I look back to see he’s still standing there and he’s looking at me. Practically staring. His green eyes are sparkling like emeralds and it takes a second before I’m able to tear mine away.

“I’m Wesley.” That drawl in his voice is almost making me swoon but I stop it. He extends his hand out to me. I can practically hear Amber scoff and I’m agreeing with her. Why isn’t this guy talking to her? I am nowhere near ready to speak to another guy.

Baffled, I just stand there trying to decipher what’s going on. “I’m Amber, this is Hope.” Amber interjects and I shoot daggers at her begging her to shut up. She’s smiling, and I know exactly what she’s doing.

“Nice to meet you Hope. I won’t bite, I swear. I may nibble and that’s it.” Oh man Wesley sure has some nerve! I’m rolling my eyes again and I’m really praying he doesn’t notice because I’m not trying to be rude.

“Nice to meet you too,” I mumble.

“I hope you like the rodeo tonight.” He says never taking his emerald green eyes away from mine. The intensity of his stare takes my breath away.

Nixon
I checked the time on my cell and leaned against the wall. The desert heat was not in any way helping my already-tense mood and irritated disposition. A guy walked by, flicking his cigarette into the dirt. Note to self: you know you’re tense as hell when you’re halfway tempted to grab said cigarette and suck the nicotine dry from the remains.
And I didn’t even smoke.
Shhhit.
My head hurt, my muscles were sore, and Trace was pissed. I closed my eyes and leaned back against the building.
“Hey there.” A flirty voice interrupted my self-inflicted torture session. I opened one eye, then two. A blond-haired girl in six-inch heels and something I can only assume at one point use to be a shirt, hanging over her shoulder, walked into my personal space. Her shirt-dress thing barely met her thighs.
“Yes?” I kept my sunglasses on. If I took them off and glared, she’d probably run screaming down the street, and I wasn’t into scaring females… at least not in that way. I knew I looked downright pissed as hell.
“Just thought you looked lonely.” She lifted her shoulder and offered a teasing smile. Did that really work on other guys?
“You thought wrong,” I said simply. “I’m holding the wall up like Samson.”
“Samson?” She looked around as if waiting for another man to appear.
“From the Bible,” I clarified.
“The what?”
“Gotta love Vegas,” I muttered under my breath. “Look, I don’t want any.”
“Any what?” She ran a manicured nail down my chest, biting down on her lip at the same time. I could only imagine her point was to get me to stare at her lips, but all I felt was irritation. Damn Chase and Mil. I just wanted to go to bed, but I needed to talk with him before tomorrow.
“Sex.” My voice clipped. “I. Don’t. Want. Any.”
“But” She twirled a piece of blond- hair in her fingers.
“I’m gay.”
“Right.” She snorted.
“I’m into men.”
“Oh really?” She closed the distance between us. Just as I was ready to seriously put my hands on her and push, I felt an arm wrap around my shoulder.
“Hey there, hot stuff.” Tex said in a low voice as his hand grabbed my ass, cupping it with a little too much enthusiasm. “You ready?”
I ground my teeth together and forced a smile. “Yup.”
“Oh…” The girl stepped back. “Um, sorry, you guys, uh, enjoy your night.” She pushed past Tex so fast I was afraid she was going to teeter off her heels and get hit by a taxi.
“Tex.” I seethed.
“Hmm?” He took off his sunglasses and tilted his head as the girl hurried away.
“You can take your hand off my ass now.”
“Why? Afraid you like it too much?”
I pushed against him.
“Just embrace your feelings!” He shouted, earning the attention of a family walking by with their two little kids.
I grabbed him by the front of his shirt and threw him few feet away from me, trying my damnedest not to smile.
“Admit it. You keep me around for comic relief.” Tex nodded with a smirk.
“I admit nothing.” I lost the war against smiling and started laughing. “But I do keep your ass away from Campisi, so remember that next time you start yelling about me being your lover.”
“True.” Tex grinned. “Oh, and P.S., don’t knock it till you try it.”
“P.S.,” I repeated in the same voice. “Still pissed at you for screwing over my sister.”
“Yeah well.” Tex sobered. “It’s for the best.”
“Breaking her heart and bringing in whores is what’s best for her?”
Tex lifted his hands into the air. “Look, I didn’t say my methods were sound or that they were intelligent, just let us deal with it, okay? We’re big kids.”
“Kids.” I snorted. “That about sums it up.”
A town car pulled up next to the curb. Chase got out and then held out his hand to Mil. My eyes narrowed; she looked different. Happier.
Her mom had just died, and she’d survived a bombing.
And she was smiling like the Taliban had just declared world peace.
Chase gripped her so tight that I saw the white of his knuckles.
I tilted my head, still watching them when Tex said. “Dude, you get laid?”
“Tex,” I snapped. “Go get something for their luggage.”
“But
“Go.”
Tex flipped me off, but ended up jogging over to the main entrance while I inspected both Mil and Chase. “I’m not saying this to be an ass
“Here we go.” Mil crossed her arms.
Chase waited.
I licked my lips and tried to appear indifferent. “But if you guys start screwing each other now, I may have to shoot one or both of you. It’s not the time to play house, got it?”
“Play house,” Chase repeated in a deadpan voice as he dipped his free hand into his back pocket, most likely clenching a pair of brass knuckles.
“I know it’s your honeymoon,” I continued. “But this [P1] little scenario you’ve got going on with the whole hot and cold is going to have to wait until everyone’s safe. So Chase, keep it in your pants for once in your life, and Mil, stop trying to seduce the poor kid, alright? It’s like dangling a damn fry in front of a seagull.”
“Who’s a fry?” Tex asked, pulling the luggage cart with him.
“Mil.”
“Are we eating dinner or something? Because I have to admit,” Tex leaned against the cart, “I’m freaking starving.” He eyed Chase and Mil. “Then again, I’m sure you both are too. All those extracurricular really take it out of ya.”
Chase took off his sunglasses, his face twisting in irritation and annoyance, no smile. Nothing. He was pissed.
“Chase,” I said slowly. “You know I’m right. You’re the best I have. I need your focus to be on The Family. Your family. Then you can screw all you want, okay?”
Mil looked like she wanted to punch me in the face. Chase took a step forward, but she stopped him.
“Good talk.” I exhaled. “Chase, I’ll see you down in the bar in a half-hour, okay? We have business to discuss. Mil, you can go find the girls. They’re having dinner out by the pool.”
Nobody moved.
After a few seconds of tense silence where I was pretty sure Chase was trying to convince himself not to strangle me to death, Tex cleared his throat and pointed to the luggage. “You guys need help, then?”
“Yeah,” Chase croaked. “Thanks.”
We loaded them up and sent them on their way.
“Tell me,” Tex asked once we were walking back toward the bar. “Is your only goal to see how far you can push Chase before he kills you in your sleep?”

I lay curled up in that ball crying until I couldn’t cry anymore.

My phone buzzed with text messages, then phone calls several times, but I didn’t answer them. They weren’t from Aria or Opal, so it didn’t matter.

The morning sky turned to afternoon and still I lay there; I couldn’t move. If I moved, more shit would happen to me, the world would find something else to throw my way. So I lay there. The afternoon sky turned to dusk, and I heard the front door open and close. Aria was home, and I knew she would come looking for me, knowing she saw my car. Sure enough, 10 minutes later the door opened and her head popped in.

“There you are. Why are you in here?”

            I didn’t answer.

            “Are you sleeping?”

I was glad my back was to the door; I pretended to be asleep.

            “Dacey?”

She stood there for a few more minutes, then closed the door quietly so as not to wake me. I didn’t want to talk to anyone not right now, not for a long while.

The dusk sky turned to evening, and there was a soft knock and Aria stuck her head in again, saying softly that Trevor was here and wanted to come in.

“Did something happen, Dacey?” her voice wavered.

I didn’t have a chance to reply because he came in the room and asked Aria to give us some privacy.

She didn’t know, so she closed the door and left.

“Dacey, why haven’t you answered my text or calls? I’ve been worried.”

I still had my back turned to him, and he didn’t make an effort to face me…I wanted everything to go back to normal and  I was silently wishing for; because the world couldn’t shit on me this much in three months, could it? It wasn’t this mean, was it?

            “Why are you here?”

“I wanted to check on you and make sure you were OK, and I want to finish our talk.”

“I’m alive, and talk.” I avoided using the word “OK” because I was far from OK.

So far from OK, I would never be OK.

Meet the Author:

Jeri Williams lives a super fabulous lifestyle (by fabulous, she mean’s kinda lame) in the hot Florida sun and loves reading of any kind (except instruction manuals and cereal boxes). She has always written stories and made her family listen to them since she was young, although this is her first book she has ever published. She is a mom of an up-and-coming Jerry Seinfeld (in girl form) and also enjoys being right and knowing everything, although she is hardly ever right and really doesn’t know anything and is obsessed with inventing miniature zoo animals you can carry around in your pocket (although not really).

Lux: Beginnings (Obsidian & Onyx) official Blurb:

Obsidian

There’s an alien next door. And with his looming height and eerie green eyes, he’s hot…until he opens his mouth. He’s infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, he lights me up with a big fat bulls-eye. Turns out he has a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal his abilities and the only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to him until my alien mojo fades. If I don’t kill him first, that is.

Onyx

Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro alien connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems. I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

spicy Latin best friend and, let’s not forget her crazy aunt who has the
world’s best one-liners, Dacey has her hands full but all that changes with one
phone call and Dacey is left questioning Everything.

EXCERPT:

He was always on his super extra-best gentlemanly

behavior when at my parents’.

“Well, however long
it’s been, it’s been too long,” said mom as she came in from the kitchen. “How
are you, Trevor?”
“I’m good, Mrs.
Harper,” he said, giving her a hug.
“Please, I have told
you since you started dating my daughter to call me Ann. You may even call me
Mom one day, who knows?” She gave him a wink.
“Mom,” Aria wailed.
“Why would you jinx them like that? Oh my gosh, you’re so … ” she said as she
put her head in her hands and shook it back and forth.
“Your mom is so
embarrassing,” she mouthed to me.
“She was your mom
first,” I mouthed back.
“Only by four years,”
I said, holding up four fingers.
“What are you girls
talking about now?” mom asked.
“Nothing,” we both
said at the same time.
“I hate when you do
that!” she said.
“Sorry,” we said at
the same time, again.
“I give up,” she
sighed and went in the kitchen to put dinner on the plates.
That left us to go
sit in the family room with Wally, who had been ignoring us so far by reading
his paper, but when we sat down next to him, Trevor, bless his heart; actually
spoke first.
“Good evening, sir,”
he said, extending his hand.
“Uuh,” my dad
grunted, not bothering to look up from his paper.
“Hey, Dad,” I said.
“You’re late.”
And
you’re a dick, I thought to myself as I watched Trevor drop his hand limply
to his side.
“By like three
minutes, and mom said around seven
not at seven, so … ” I trailed off.
“All I know is I am
hungry and we had to wait for you, and you stroll in here being ungrateful for
a meal that’s free,” he grunted out.
“Dad, I didn’t mean …
” I stared.
“Daddy,” Aria cut in,
“you didn’t ask how my classes went today, grouchy pants.”
“Thanks,” I mouthed,
shooting her a grateful look.
She shrugged it off.
She was used to defusing our father-daughter “conversations,” especially when
he was grouchy.
“I’m sorry, baby
girl, how was your day? Do you like all your classes?” he asked her sweetly.
He did a complete
Jekyll and Hyde; if I wasn’t so used to it, I would have been suspicious and
started looking in the basement for his laboratory.
