Where do I begin?!

I had fallen off of the BDB world sometime ago due to the fact that there were soooo many releases of other great books that I couldn’t keep up but I read enough to know that one, Rahge (Hollywood) and Mary’s story was my favorite. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to keep up but Ward has written it in such a way that you could be like me and not have picked up a DBD book in years but after one chapter you are not only hooked and invested but not also not totally lost!

This story took me by such a surprise in a good way! From what I remembered of Hollywood and his beast, this side of him that we see is just….DEEP. So deep that I was NOT prepared for the emotions i got from it. I found myself more than once with lumps of emotion clogging my throat and blinking back tears. The feels, GD the FEELS!!

As per her norm, this story not only involved Rahge and Mary but it also focused on the brother’s, some more than others and acquaintances of the brothers. Assil is a new to me character but still very intriguing and I can’t wait to find out more about him and his journey, for I see it being a long and eventful one. The journey that Rage and Mary take you on is not an easy one but it was totally necessary for the character’s, and while I gritted my teeth in anger at some non Rahge parts I totally didn’t want it to end.

I am now so immersed in the brotherhood again, especially due to the shock that’s delivered toward the end) I am finding myself going back and read the ones I missed!

As always hat’s off Mrs. Ward for a job well done!

Brave Enough:(Tall, Dark, and Dangerous) Review Post

He was the most charismatic man I’d ever met. Strong, tough, brave. Bold as hell. Something told me Tag Barton could have anything—anyone—he wanted…and he wanted me. It didn’t matter that he was wrong for me in practically every way possible. It didn’t matter that my father would hate it.
I couldn’t resist him. Even if I’d known who he really was and what he was really capable of.
When he suggested we pretend to be engaged, I thought he was the answer to all my problems. He wasn’t. And, in his wake, he left nothing but scorched earth and me, just another casualty of my father’s war.
Can I believe him now when he tells me he loves me? Or is he nothing more than a beautiful, breathtaking lie?

I totally had the opportunity to read Brave Enough by the highly spoke of M. Leighton. I am personally not a frequent reader of contemporary romance, but the way it was written and the flow of the story line kept me invested in the outcome of the book that I completely overlooked the missing Sci Fi/paranormal aspects of which usually dictate my choice in literature (ha! oxymoron).

First thing that need to be said and gotten out of the way is that I did not like the names of the characters at first. It took approximately 5 chapters to get used to their names. The names ultimately did help, you could definitely not mistake that you were in the midst of a romance when the characters are all “Oh Taggart” and ” Oh Weatherly”. But being in the romance realm and when I dealt with my personal issues and let it go, it led into that I loved when getting down and dirty. Just what you expect in a romance novel as the “down” part, but it was described in a realistic aspect. There were no hip breaking kamasutra positions or balancing on hands-in-a-back-bender-that-a-gymnast-would-be-proud-of tricks that show the author does not frequent that amazing aspect of reality. Tag and Weatherly brought you along and while not crazy explicit, you were in the moment with them.

The***** scene is my favorite, it shows how deep his feelings are getting and that she has already reached that point in her feelings for him. She trusts him unequivocally and while I do fault her, a bit, I get where she was coming from and I cannot honestly say that I would not have followed the same steps.

The ending was amazing, I love completions. You know where they are, where they stand, where they will be going, and are satisfied with the journey you were on thus far; at least I was! I would definitely read another M. Leighton.

“I’ll make sure she stays here, but you have to go,” he says, and it takes a moment to realize I spoke my thoughts aloud. When I finally open my eyes and look at the man I’ve called a friend for so many years, he winces at the look in my eyes.

“I swear it, Ash,” he promises, and I believe he’ll try, but nothing and no one can hold Mena if she doesn’t want to be held.

I can only nod.

“John needs you, Ash.”

I stare at the door a moment longer before traveling to my King, dreading every moment I’m away from Mena. It only takes a few seconds, but it kills me, and I can’t believe John has been away from Olivia for even a minute without losing his fucking mind. How can he stand this? This clawing, gouging ache. It rips at my chest, and I have to focus all my energy on not traveling back to her. I knock on the chamber door, and I cannot fathom what I can do to help when I feel so torn in two.

I sense Seb behind me. Just being near him sends a low pulse of current over my skin, making me hot with desire. His hand gently sweeps my hair to one side as he plants soft kisses on my neck. “I’ll turn the heat up. You’ve got far too many clothes on for my liking, Izzy.”

He moves away from me but I remain still. We’ve never been together as just us, without the pretence of exploring my sexuality. Will it be the same?

“Why are you still standing there, sweetheart?” He turns me to face him and his eyes are dark, filled with blues and greens.

“I… I wasn’t sure.”

“Oh, sweet girl. He’s not going to explain a freaking thing to me, I think as his mouth settles into a firm line. Asher’s eyes appear half pissed off and half sad. He looks like he’s struggling with something, but he’s not saying anything. I haven’t spent that much time with Asher, but I can tell getting words out of him will take some engine grease and possibly a crowbar.

I think I’d rather skip the part where he has to let me down slow.

“Okay. We’ll talk about it later,” I concede with a shrug and shake of my head.

In the grand scheme of things, I have a pretty good idea of what he’ll say. I mean, honestly? Who would pick a girl like me? I’m not sure how this whole Wraith mating stuff goes, but if the man has a choice, he has to prefer a better crop than me.

I don’t need to be worrying about this now anyway. So what if I felt a connection to the first man probably ever? So what if I clung to him like a monkey on a tree? So what if I feel safe with him, a feeling I haven’t had in a very long time? So freaking what? I don’t deserve a man like him. After the lives I’ve taken… happiness just isn’t in the cards for me.

“I’m all right. It’s not going to hurt. I didn’t even notice it was dislocated before now. It’ll get popped back in, I’ll be able to heal and walk. Win-win. You can go. I’ll be fine,” I tell him, my voice sounding almost dead even to my ears. I need to cut this off as soon as possible. His face tells me he is reluctant, but he needs to go.

“Come on Asher,” Evan says at his elbow, and she escorts him from the room, practically dragging him behind her up the stairs.

My eyes are on the stairs long after he disappears from my sight. In those moments, I take the time to shore up my heart. I don’t need to rely on Asher. I shouldn’t even rely on Aurelia or Rhys or prey on the hospitality of the Wraiths.

I should do the right thing. For once, I should do what I’ve always needed to do. But I need to be able to walk to do it.
