EXCERPT – Limo
Sex:

“Tybee
Island. That’s what I was handling with Bane. I rented us a house on the beach
after we left the doctor’s office. You’ll be safe, Alli, I promise. Security is
already in place.”
The
last statement and somber tone in his voice has me instantly pulling back from
the window.
“Damien,
you are the only person I feel completely safe with while this maniac is out
there. I don’t worry about not being safe when I’m with you.”
He
sends a quick text, and then he grabs the nape of my neck and pulls me to him.
Whatever was missing is back in full force and then some as my body warms, and
he begins to penetrate all my senses. The familiar haze comes over me, and the
world completely begins to slide away.
I’m not
even waiting for foreplay as I wrench my shirt and bra off my body. Damien’s
warm mouth immediately encapsulates my breast, and I arch at the pleasure that
begins to radiate down to my core, igniting a burn down there.
I need
my husband shirtless now.
 I
go to the bottom of his thermal shirt and start to pull it up. He immediately
disengages from my body as he takes over, and he has it over his head and
discarded in about a quarter of the time it would have taken me. In one
movement, he’s picked me up and laid me out on the limo floor.
He goes
for my pants and pulls them from my body. “Fuck, Alli, you are beautiful.”
I try
to do a seductive smile, but then his finger slides down my cleft and dips into
my core. I arch off the limo floor. He undoes his pants enough to free himself,
and he is on top of me immediately.
“I
can’t wait. I need inside you now.”
I open
my legs up in invitation and whimper at the friction as he enters me.
“Oh,
Damien, please, yes. It’s been too long.”

MJ Fields had no clue what she was getting into when she began the journey of writing. She say’s, “I still don’t–but I like it!”

Her imagination became apparent at age three. Sigma was her very first (imaginary) boyfriend. He lived about fifteen miles from her family’s farm. She took him chicken noodle soup every night on one of their snowmobiles.(Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring). Apparently he was very ill and “Thank God” she was able to take care of him.

At eight her love for writing blossomed. Together with her cousins (of course she was the president) they wrote a newsletter and sold it to their family members.

Years later she decided to put it back into print to entertain her cousin as she was on an aircraft carrier on 9/11, very far away from home during a scary time for our country.

Fast forward to 2012. She read 50 Shades and thought, ‘I wanna do that!’ (meaning writing).

She has two complete series, The Love Series and Wrapped. There are also two new series Burning Souls and Men of Steel that are as of now not complete. Thirteen books in sixteen months. CrAzY and wonderful.

She loves love!

Her Mom raised her right. She says please and thank you and means it. She expects the same out of her child. ‘It’s the right thing to do.’

Her mother taught her to take care of herself and others. ‘I don’t like leaving the house without mascara even if I’m in an oversized hoody and warm up pants.’

Her Dad taught her how to work hard and never expect to be handed anything. She likes to work and doesn’t mind getting dirty.

Both taught her to be respectful and the importance of doing the right thing regardless of what people around her do. They taught her about the importance of family and that it didn’t always just include blood relatives. They also tried to teach her how to keep my thoughts to myself…she is still working on that.

MJ tends to enjoy watching people grow and change with self realization and moments of clarity that just sneak up behind you and smack you in the head.

She loves people and has always been able to see both sides of a story. ‘Each person that comes into our life leaves us with something it is what we choose to do with it that helps us grow.’

She lives in central New York in the middle of nowhere and is surrounded by family and friend most the time. She ran a small business out of her home and has recently closed her door to pursue this dream full time. She spends time writing and doing the typical Mommy things. Her house is full of pets, friends, and noise ninety percent of the time, and she would have it no other way.

Cover
design:
Rebecca Berto, of Berto Designs

Release Date:  February 13, 2014

The problem with crazy is that crazy, by itself, has no context. It can be good crazy, bad crazy . . . or crazy crazy—like it was when my ex-boyfriend sung about me on the radio.
Eighteen-year-old Kate couldn’t be more excited about finishing high school and spending the summer on tour with her boyfriend’s band. Her dad showing up drunk at graduation, however, is not exactly kicking things off on the right foot—and that’s before she finds out about his mystery illness, certain to end in death.
A mystery illness she is likely to inherit.

When your whole life goes from adventure and ecstasy to sad and suicidal, what’s the point? Not knowing who to love, and who to trust . . . where does it end?

The Problem With Crazy is a story about love and life; about overcoming obstacles, choosing to trust, and learning how to make the choices that will change your life forever.

FIVE FACTS WITH
LAUREN K. MCKELLAR
Where did you get
your inspiration?
I was inspired to write this story when I met a friend of
mine’s father, who unfortunately, has the disease. I didn’t go through the
struggle with him when he got tested, or anything, but meeting someone who
suffered from such an obviously horrible illness was really sad.
My cousin suffers from a mental illness, and one of the
things I dislike most is the special treatment, and the frequent use of the
term ‘crazy’. And so, The Problem With
Crazy
was born.

Was writing about
such a horrible illness difficult?
I think writing about any illness is
difficult. When you create fiction about something that not only alters
people’s lives, but can kill them, you’re treading on sensitive ground.

That’s why I did a lot of research; I interviewed victims, spoke to state
bodies, and observed people who weren’t affected, but who knew people who were.
I hope this means I’ve done the subject matter justice.

Why New Adult?
This illness is all about change in life, and for me, New Adult, or Upper YA,
is one of the biggest change periods a person will go through. It’s coming of
age, it’s defining life moments, and I couldn’t think of a time when people are
more socially aware and conscious, and yet still at a period when life- and
person-making choices are made. For me, eighteen years was the ultimate age to
set this story with maximum impact.

So is the moral to
the story to not get Huntington’s disease?
No. This disease isn’t
contagious. It’s hereditary, which is horrid enough.

However, the moral isn’t to do with this particular illness. It’s twofold; it’s
partly to do with the literal use of the term ‘crazy’, and, more importantly,
to do with living life to the fullest. To not knowing when or where you could
die, but to living life anyway. To trying, and persevering, and working, and
laughing, and smiling, and loving, and living—it’s to being. To being as if each day is your last—and in spite of the
fact.

So, heavy stuff.
Let’s talk about romance. Is there some lovin’ in this book?
Well, you know
what? Love is a central theme, as it is in most of our lives. Loving, however …
well, let’s just say, it’s certainly not an erotic romance. Still, I don’t know
that I could write and not include love to help bind the elements together.

For me, love has always been a part of my life. I’d dream of
finding ‘the one’ when I was younger; and now that I’ve finally found him, it’s
everything I could have wanted, and more. To write a story and not incorporate
a part of that, a fragment of something I probably feel strongest about—I don’t
know that I could do it.

Finally,
the dedication. Tell us about that.

Well, I dedicated this book to the person who inspired me to write it. I wanted
to raise awareness about something that struck someone so cruelly.

Also, that person is someone’s father. While my father never had Huntington’s,
he did pass away from cancer when I was in my late teens, and I feel like the
altering of a father figure is something that’s personal. This book is being
released on the anniversary of my father’s death; so it’s for dads everywhere.
Happy, healthy, loving, paternal, diseased, and healthy. Because who can argue
with that?

I raised my hands
to my sides and lifted up my T-shirt, throwing it over my head and letting it
land on the floor next to me. Swaying my hips to the side, I threw my hands out
in a ta-da movement, like I was the host on a game show.
“And the jeans.” Dave nodded and
took a few steps back to the bed, sitting down and crossing his arms. His face
was blank, and his eyebrows were raised. I’d never seen him look so
unimpressed.
I flipped the button and undid my
fly, slowly pulling my skinny jeans over my thighs, my knees, my calves, and
finally my ankles and feet. There was no way to do it and be sexy, so I settled
for not falling over. I stepped out of my pants and stood up straight, in only
my underwear.
Dave checked his cell for messages.

I
felt sick.

WRITING ABOUT ILLNESS
Writing about illness and disease is
obviously dancing with danger. After all, when you’re talking about a condition
that can change, and eventually, strip someone of their life, it’s important to
treat the topic with sensitivity and do it justice. Stuffing up things like
symptoms, treatment and other conditional specifications can not only leave you
labeled a liar, but also leave you responsible for potentially causing a sufferer
insult and/or injury.
The Problem With Crazy deals with
Huntington’s disease, a neurodegenerative disorder that results in a loss of
brain function and, approximately 15-20 years after onset, death. And that’s
putting it in simple terms.
When writing about this disease, I
wanted to keep as close to the facts as I could. Being a lesser-known condition
than, say, cancer, or Parkinson’s, it was difficult at first to gather facts.
Eventually, I approached a few
organisations, state bodies for sufferers of this illness, to fact check and
gather information. This was difficult as a writer; asking people to give up
their time for something that may never be published is hard, especially when
you’re asking such personal questions. Still, I was lucky enough to speak with
a person at the Huntington’s foundation in Victoria, and they helped me a lot.
I also learnt a lot from talking with
sufferers and relatives of sufferers. They showed me a unique angle to the
disease I hadn’t at that point considered: a compassion, and positive focus I
may not have been aware of otherwise.
In the end, I asked another state body to read through the book for any
factual errors. At the end of the day, this illness isn’t my story to
tell–it’s theirs, and I don’t want to misrepresent it. Still, I do expect
there to be an element or two of information that perhaps isn’t quite accurate.
When it comes down to it, I haven’t suffered from this illness, nor has anyone
in my family, thank goodness. It is for this reason that I hope you, as a
reader, understand that this is a work of fiction, and for more information on
this disease

Oceans Submerged By M. A. DeOlmos

Published February 11, 2014 by bookbesties

I am super tight with M. DeOlmos and she allowed me and me only to read the 2nd book in her Oceans Collide series and but I was not disappointed!

ocean sub

Synopsis:

Twenty-seven year old Ocean Hawthorne thought he’d known loss and pain when his twin sister Stormie died. It was his fault the world would no longer see her beautiful smile or hear her captivating laughter. The former world champion in the vicious world of MMA fighting thought he’d been through the worst and has now carried that guilt and pain with him since.

Then he met Livie Acosta. The moment he laid his eyes on the exotic beauty, he was hooked. In that split second of looking into her wild and hurt eyes, his heart began to beat again. He knew then that he would never be able to let her go… but was that the right thing for him to do? Because yet again, Ocean found himself surrounded by a familiar darkness, a pain so strong that even breathing hurt, and living felt impossible. He’d pushed too far in the effort to love and help her, and now… now he didn’t know if he’d ever see her again.

Lawrence Hawthorne has been through the ringer when it came to hurt and disappointment, but nothing could have prepared him for the possibility of losing Livie. He’d just found her and now—well, now he didn’t know what to think. To him, Livie was more than just a girl, more than just a friend. To Law, Livie was someone he needed to help and protect, even from herself, and he’d failed that simple task.

Will the Hawthorne cousins who have sworn to protect Livie survive her selfish act, or will they crumble, yet again?

Review:

The way Oceans Collide left off with you know Livie going all ‘I cant take life anymore’ I was pumped to see what would happen, would she make it, would she not what if Ocean never forgave her, will she ever forgive herself? So many questions and while some were answered some where a nice Segway into the next book. Ocean looses himself in this book and while he is trying to deal with Liv and the aftermath of what she did he is also faced with old demons he thought long gone. Everything that happened with his sister brings a tremendous amount of guilt flooding to the surface after seeing Liv do what she did. while I don’t want to give too much away I will say that this book was a lot better (IMO) than the first, while the first kept me reading and wanting to know what happen this book kept me glued to the pages. I read and got so wrapped up in the characters lives that it was well into the late night before I put it down!

We also find that new love is blossoming as well as new battles to be fought with not just with Ocean and Live but with Law as well. I had very mixed feeling about Law in the first book I was very /Dude, why are you up Liv’s ASS all the time, that’s Oceans girl’ but mainly that was because I fell in love with Ocean right away. But in this book you see a whole new side to Law and that made me like him a lot more, not as much as Ocean but then well I love the Ocean. this book to me was a lot more into the feelings of each person and they all deal with the aftermath of what Liv did in different ways and as they try to come to grips with it are faced with new challenges. This book does have a ‘soft cliff hanger’ which means that it’s not as bad as the first one but you are still left like  ‘OMG what is going to happen next?’

Melissa did a great job with this one and I can’t wait to read the third book!

**I was gifted this book in exchange for my honest and fair review****

4 out of 5 stars!
