A Montana Man risks everything for the woman he loves . . .
Undercover DEA Special Agent Dawson King spent five months in a Montana prison establishing a fake identity to take down a ruthless drug dealer and put him behind bars. Except there’s a wild card . . . the killer’s beloved daughter. Cara Potter may appear to be on the right side of the law, but King has learned the hard way to trust no one—even someone as tantalizing as the coffee shop owner. She’s irresistible . . . but is she also dangerous?
From the moment he enters her life, King makes Cara . . . nervous. The handsome drifter says he wants to get his life together . . . but there is something about him that doesn’t quite ring true. Cara wants to believe in him, yet she holds back despite the way he awakens dormant dreams and leaves her breathless with his sexy smile, steamy kisses, his every touch.
When the explosive truth comes out and she’s betrayed by the ones she loves, Cara must decide—can she trust her heart, or should she listen to her head?
This is the second book in the series, while not necessary to read the first prior to reading this, the first does come up quite a bit. The author recaps the basic story line every time a character from the first book is mentioned. This book was slow moving for the first half, almost everything happened very quickly in the second half and then it ended.
Cara is strong heroine who was dealt a bad hand in life from the start, walls around her heart, and trusts no one. Her dad, IceMan, is the head of a drug cartel. He tried to stay out of her life for the most part but was around enough to make it difficult. When her mother died at the age of 7, she was sent to live with her grandparents on the farm until they died when she was a teen. Cara turned the property that her grandparents left her into a coffee shop and half-way house for ex-cons getting out of prison on parole. King is an undercover DEA agent sent to take down her dad. The job is simple, get close to Cara to find out which side she is on, try and get her to help take down her dad. King didn’t realize how much their pasts had already overlapped. Neither of them ever thought that they would find love. She was supposed to be the job and not the love of his life.
The first half of the book lets you really get to know the characters, you find out everything that has lead them to the farm. Once things really start to take form, everything moves very quickly. It is a little predictable. Everything comes down to one night full of arrests, explosions, and truth bombs they didn’t see coming. Blood will be shed, truths will come out, and lives will be lost. Cara must decide if she loves King enough to get to know the real man and give them a chance at their happily ever after.
